Nightblade (Darkest night)-Chapter 156: Possibilities
Morgan paused for a split second, staring at Emily in disbelief.
"Where’d that even come from? Can she actually see you, Sarenus?"
Morgan was quite sure the only reason he could even see Sarenus was because of the unique trait he had.
The Void World.
I was where he’d first discovered the drayghar’s ability to communicate with him.
Of course, he’d felt the drayghar’s presence before and eveñ instinctively felt its power, but that only because of his affinity to umbralis.
Sarenus had told him it was exceedingly rare to find individuals with a Void World.
"Does she have a Spirit Void just like me?"
"No, I’m quite sure that she doesn’t possess one," Sarenus said thoughtfully.
" Then how is she able to see you..."
" I’m not quite sure...if she can, then she’s certainly no ordinary talented."
Morgan inhaled slightly, closing his eyes.
" Well, there’s no point denying it..."
" Sarenus, you can come out now."
A moment later, white flames ignited in the depths of Morgan’s shadow.
The small tenebrous shadow elongated, morphing into a larger man-shaped silhouette.
The effects of the transformation immediately spread throughout the surrounding area.
The darkness hummed with power; the temperature around them dropped by several degrees.
Even the luminous fog at the city’s entrance was pushed back, moving back like it was alive slightly at Sarenus’s appearance.
Emily stared at the dark shadow intently, her eyes narrowing in contemplation.
"And what is that supposed to be?"
Megan let out an exasperated sigh, raising his arms in surrender.
"This is the drayghar that entered my body a while back."
Emily’s eyes widened, then narrowed, gleaming with a strange fascination.
"That’s certainly interesting...how is this even possible?"
Morgan frowned, regarding her in amusement.
"Possible? The question should be how you’re even able to see him?"
The dark-haired girl turned to him in puzzlement.
"Him?"
Morgan let out an exasperated sigh, turning to his shadow.
"Can you talk to her, Sarenus?"
Sarenus raised his hands, smiling eerily.
" I’ll give it a try."
A second later, Emily’s eyes widened in shock.
" Did you just..."
" Speak directly into your mind? Yes, I did," Sarenus said.
" I guess the world’s full of surprises recently, huh.."
Morgan stared at Sarenus curiously, sensing an undertone of something else.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Sarenus.
" Nothing apart from the fact that she reeks of Asterix."
Sarenus’ voice dropped, turning icy cold with menace.
Morgan frowned, slightly turning to the drayghar.
" And who’s that supposed to be?"
Sarenus ’ form shrank down, returning to the smaller, more inconspicuous size.
" Asterix was one of Alsterius’ brothers...it would also explain why she’s able to see me..."
Morgan let out a sigh.
"I guess introductions are in order then." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Gesturing towards Emily, he spoke.
"Sarenus, allow me to introduce Emily. Emily, this is Sarenus."
Morgan’s shadow waved slightly, a fiery smile igniting where its mouth should have been.
Morgan furrowed his brows in thought, racking his head in puzzlement.
" Why does that name sound so familiar? Around them, the darkness shifted slightly, the fog of Azaroth receding a bit.
" I think I’ve heard this name before...who is this Aster..."
" Quiet, you fool."
Morgan’s friend slightly turned to Sarenus in confusion.
"What’s the matter?"
Sarenus’ firm morphed, forming a tiny cub on the ground.
"Just like the other Lords, Asterix possesses a realm. The only problem is he is quite sensitive to those who utter his name."
It doesn’t really matter whether it’s a place or beings just like you’ve seen now," Sarenus said, gesturing slightly.
Morgan’s eyes widened slightly, noting the small changes in their surroundings.
"his reach is so vast he can even get to you through your dreams."
Emily’s eyes widened, a flicker of recognition flashing through her eyes.
Just then, Morgan remembered why the name sounded so familiar.
He slowly turned, facing Emily once.
"This guy, he was the man in your memories..."
Sarenus glanced at the two of them in amusement.
" What are you two going on about?"
Morgan’s gaze turned sombre.
" Emily, she’s..."
The sanctuary’s altar allowed him to peer into Emily’s memories with such intricacy that he could literally feel the fear and horror that she had felt in that moment as though it were his own.
Morgan could still see those piercing crimson eyes boring into his own with undeniable power and maddening intensity.
It was a haunting memory that lingered within his own mind even long after their minds had melded.
In Emily’s memories, he was back in the dark hall when the dreadful rift that had changed her life appeared.
Asterix’s power was equal to the sheer night he’d felt radiating off Alsterius and Malinla in the vision.
And to think that she’d ensured such a thing.
He’d never really thought about what would happen if he had to face off against a being at the level of Alsterius, but at this point, the reply was quite obvious.
Instant obliteration.
He didn’t stand a chance.
And frankly, he didn’t think any of the people he’d met so far stood so much as a chance.
He watched and lived through sister Claire’s murder, a woman he could tell was quite dear to Emily.
Morgan watched Asterix toy with the man he vaguely knew as Gregory Whizen.
" The headmaster..."
From what he could see, the headmaster was not weak; it was just the opponent that was exceedingly and overwhelmingly strong.
Throwing a glance at Enjoy, she subconsciously shivered.
The Talented girl’s gaze hardened, her eyes burning with hate and determination.
Unbeknownst to her, eyes burned with emerald fire, a layer of frost swiftly spreading around them.
" I’ve met him."
Sarenus stared at her in puzzlement.
" Met who?"
Morgan rolled his eyes in amusement
" That guy, she’s met him."
Sarenus stared at the two youths in silence for a while.
" You’re serious?"
Emily nodded seriously.
"Then answer me this: how are you still alive? That guy rarely leaves anyone alive? How did you even meet him?"
"She dreamt him," Morgan quietly whispered.
Sarenus cursed aloud, the drayghar’s shadowy form shifting slightly on the ground.
" Poor child..."
"He killed someone very dear to me. And for that I’ll make him pay."
Sarenus stared at her for a while, then, eventually, a low chuckle emanated from the shadow.
Emily friended, piercing him with a cool look.
" And what appears to be so amusing ?"
" Forgive my sudden out first, it’s just I thought I’d heard you say you’d make him pay..."
Emily nodded calmly.
" That’s right."
Sarenus grew still, staring at her in silence for a few moments.
" You’re going to make a Lord pay?"
Emily stared at him quietly, her eyes burning with intensity.
After a while, Sarenus chuckled.
"If you’re serious, then I think I like you, girl, Emily, was it. I look forward to seeing that day."
Despite discovering that Emily could somehow see the drayghar even in his shadow, a question still nagged at Morgan’s mind.
" Sarenus..."
" Yes..."
" Does that mean the reason Emily can see you is that she came into contact with Asterix?"
Sarenus chuckled lightly; Morgan could almost see him shake his head.
"Nope, that would simply be preposterous. I suspect your little friend here carries his lineage."
Morgan grew still, processing the implications of what Sarenus was saying.
"Do you mean she’s his daughter? Granddaughter or something like that."
Sarenus nodded silently.
" Perhaps, something like that...there are several possibilities..."
Just then, Cassius walked up behind them, whistling slightly.
" My, my, aren’t you two cute, taking the watch together?"
Morgan rolled his eyes while Emily frowned slightly, fixing him with a scathing glare.
Cassius laughed nervously, taking a step back.
" Well, there’s no need to overreact, it’s just a joke."
His expression turned serious.
"Besides, it’s my turn to take the watch. Not that I’d mind a few extra minutes of sleep."
Morgan shot to his feet.
"Not a chance..."
This time his dreams were wonderfully non-eventful, and eventually, when he rose, the pale twin moons still stood eerily in the sky.
He stared at them for a while, observing their brilliant colours.
The ghostly green colour stirred a nauseating feeling within him, his face turning paler.
Looking away, he gulped slightly, reaching for the familiar feeling of his blades in his back.
The other youths looked even paler, their faces looking tired and haggard despite the respite of sleep.
A short distance away, Talia routinely checked her long blade, Samantha whispered to Emily in soft undertones, and Amanda listlessly stared at the rest of the group.
The Talented girl and Lucian had seemingly grown closer ever since the fight.
Meeting his gaze, the scion smiled, walking in his direction.
Lucian approached him, nodding slightly.
The scion offered him a tired smile, taking off his glasses.
"You can feel it too, huh...This Azaroth... there’s something terribly wrong about this place..."
He turned, staring at the city.
"This place, just being this close to it, it feels like I’m slowly losing my mind..."
Morgan grinned.
"I know what you mean. But I guess we’re all slowly losing our minds...
After all, no person in their right mind would even consider entering the forsaken city.
