Nightblade (Darkest night)-Chapter 174: Tranquility
Sarenus had moved with impossible speed. In the moment when the Monstrous Beast had caught up to Morgan, the drayghar blurred through the air, leaving a blazing trail of brilliant white flames in his wake.
Hundreds of thralls were instantly incinerated in that brief moment.
Using the brief moment of respite, Morgan moved once more, his eyes frantically darting across the length of the grand enchantment.
A silent ripple surged through the multitude of thralls, and with it a strange change occurred.
More thralls dissolved into massive torrents of darkness and then merged, spontaneously growing in size.
The torrents of darkness coalesced into large, grotesque forms, their monstrous limbs forming at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Several roars echoed through the matrix, rocking the dark space.
Morgan’s eyes narrowed.
"Just what we needed, there are more of these things now."
With the emergence of the new hybrids and unprecedented pressure washed over the matrix in the wake of their destructive power.
Waves of pressure washed over the invading Void World, seemingly pushing back the starry pain that had appeared.
Morgan groaned, feeling something inexplicably shift inside him.
As the wielder, anything that affected the Void World affected him as well.
Violent whirlwinds blew, raising illusory dust throughout the dark matrix
The shift came to a stop, the dark matrix and the Void World quaking tremulously.
With an earth-shattering roar, Sarenus pushed back the massive Orcgren Hybrid, then unleashed a stream of immolating white flames at point-blank range.
A searing heat washed over the thralls in the vicinity of the blast radius, the force of the blast pushing them back.
The Orcgren roared in pain, violently resisting the onslaught.
The immolating flames washed over it, parting before its bulky form and instantly incinerating the smaller thralls on either side of the hybrid.
The thralls disintegrated on the spot, dissipating into the darkness without a sound.
Morgan watched the sheer scale of destruction, his mouth falling open in a stunned silence.
A moment later, its maw opened impossibly wide, a ball of jet black flames forming.
At that point, Sarenus rapidly morphed his body, changing to that of a gigantic humanoid creature with wings.
Without missing a beat, Sarenus grabbed its jaw, violently slamming its maw shut.
With a roar, he hoisted the titanic creature into the air, then slammed it down.
Before the Orcgren could gather its bearings, Sarenus stomped down on the creature’s head several times, then grabbed its tenebrous arms.
Grunting slightly, he brutally ripped off the massive limbs and then kicked the creature away.
Turning back, the drayghar strained slightly, then took to the air.
A massive creature lunged through the space where he’d been standing a few moments earlier.
Sarenus flapped his wings, gazing down at the creatures below.
He sneered in disgust, pursing his lips.
" What a bunch of pests."
In the next moment, the massive thralls morphed, gigantic wings sprouting out of their backs.
Sarenus’ eyes widened, then narrowed at the new development.
" The creators of this place must have been deranged lunatics..."
Stretching out his hands, several blades made entirely of immolating white flames flared to life, appearing like stars in the dark matrix.
At the same time, Morgan went pale.
His vision momentarily turned blurry, the golden flames flickering for a brief moment, then reigniting.
He came to a stop, staring down at his trembling arm with a frown.
"What is this...feeling?"
A moment later, Kazarax’s voice rang out in his head
"What you’re experiencing is an effect from the strain of using the Void’s power for a prolonged time. While you’re here, even though this battle is taking place here, your body is still a conduit for the amount of power you’re using. This is probably a warning mechanism. At your current level, you’re probably already working past the limit of what you’re capable of enduring."
Morgan grinned faintly. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
" Then I guess we’ll have to move faster.
For the duration of this entire time, Morgan had been observing the length of the intricate web of pulsating golden characters that had been used in the sorcery that held the dark matrix together.
Of course, the dark creature wasn’t exactly making things easy for him, but that was to be expected.
Using Sarenus as a distraction, he’d continued searching for the main nexus, going through thousands of characters at a time.
During this time, the strange characters began to resonate with him.
Seeing the world through Kazarax’s eyes was a fascinating thing.
The Void walker’s presence granted him access to the knowledge of the former veliscera at such an intricate level of detail that he was instantly able to decode the maze of characters at the points he looked.
"It’s almost like a jigsaw puzzle.
Augmented by the Void walker’s abilities, he scanned through the complex enchantment several times faster than he normally would have been able to, but even then, its length was simply too vast.
Below him, the harrowing battle between Sarenus and the hybrid thrall continued.
" Look and despair, Void wielder," a deep voice spoke, echoing across the dark matrix.
Countless dark chains formed from the darkness rustling through the expanse of the Void.
The numerous tendrils burst forward with such terrible speed that the space around them exploded violently from the friction left in their wake.
Within moments, countless chains had latched onto Sarenus’s dark form, weighing him down.
In that brief moment, several thralls threw themselves at the drayghar, ripping into him relentlessly.
" This is the difference in our power," Azaroth spoke, his voice rolling across the matrix in a tone that brooked no denial.
A massive tentacle slammed into him with a terrible force, momentarily disorienting him, the impact sending him flying through the air.
Morgan halted his momentum using a stream of flames. He winced, tenderly grasping his side.
" Look at reality, Void wielder. You cannot stop me."
Morgan slowly turned, glaring at the massive figure hatefully.
His eyes narrowed, the white flames burning even brighter.
His lips slowly curled up into a sinister, predatory smile.
" You must be growing senile with age, Azaroth."
In the next moment, Sarenus dissolved entirely into a torrent of darkness, and the countless dark chains latched onto him, falling harmlessly to the ground.
With Sarenus’ disappearance, the hybrid’s new target was Morgan.
In the face of the descending wave of creatures, Morgan seemed like an ant in front of giants.
Multiple tendrils of darkness sprouted from the ground, descending on His smaller form and pinning him in place.
Morgan struggled violently against the dark bonds, but the dark chains held tight.
Azaroth’s massive figure came to a stop in the distance, staring at him disdainfully.
" I have lived longer than you can imagine, young one. I have fought in a thousand battles, faced thousands of foes, and I have won a thousand times."
Morgan glared hatefully at the obsidian giant, the dalmes in his eyes narrowing.
"Accept it," Azaroth’s voice spoke, echoing across the vast expanse of the darkness.
"You will now become a part of me just like many others before you."
The tenebrous chains dug into his skin, burrowing into his body.
Morgan groaned, reeling from the agonizing pain.
In that moment, his eyes widened in shock.
The revulsive chains invaded his mind, forcibly trying to assimilate him into the vast web of sorcery that Azaroth.
Kazarax’s presence was immediately suppressed and then forced back.
In that moment, Morgan fell to his knees, his mouth falling open.
A sharp jarring sound resounded through the dark matrix that he soon recognized as his own voice.e
He screamed and screamed, then screamed some more.
The agony was exquisite.
It was unlike anything that he’d ever experienced before.
The feeling of thousands of consciousnesses fleeting through his mind was maddening.
Hearing the final thoughts and feelings of a portion of all the beings the crazed city had consumed pushed him to the very edge of madness.
Morgan felt something delicate crack within him.
His eyes widened in fear, his mind helplessly flailing around in an attempt to prevent the cracks from spreading.
In that moment, he instinctively drew upon the power of the Void, summoning every aspect of the obscure World that was available to him.
And the Void answered.
The torrent of darkness that was Sarenus surged forward, then flowed into his chest.
His inky dark form turned even darker.
Brilliant white veins of flames spread all over his body, growing at a visible speed.
Kazarax’s presence flared to life, the Void walker au
Then he moved.
With the augmentation of the flames, his speed reached unprecedented heights.
The space around him crackled in the wake of his movement.
His form became a blur, whizzing through the space unpredictably.
In that brief moment, several luminous threads broke apart, unraveling in the face of his lightning-fast movements.
Morgan’s targets were the weak points of the giant nexus that he’d observed earlier.
"It’s time to put you to rest."
A split second later, a chain of devastating explosions rippled through the air.
