Nightmare Assault-Chapter 479: Wound
Du Feng didn’t hesitate. He turned and ran. He didn’t understand why the ghosts would appear and why there were so many of them. It was too late for questions. He just wanted to run and leave. However, where could he go? If he went back, he and Kui Yi would be chased together.
There was a lobby between the two corridors. It was not big. When Du Feng passed by, he heard a ting. He turned and saw an elevator stopping. The elevator opened to reveal a nurse standing inside. The nurse held a file with a blue cover. She wore an old-fashioned cotton mask and a nurse’s cap. When Du Feng saw the nurse, the nurse saw him too.
Seeing the things behind Du Feng, the nurse’s exposed eyes trembled. Then, she pressed the button inside the elevator hurriedly. The blue files fell to the ground. The elevator doors paused before slowly closing.
“No!” Du Feng shouted. The footsteps behind him approached. Du Feng raced towards the nurse. Thankfully, he managed to squeeze into the elevator at the last moment. To his surprise, the ghosts stopped about several metres from the elevator. There were six of them. They had strange poses, but they stopped chasing him. Had they given up?
Du Feng’s mind wasn’t working, but he was thankful. He managed to escape. He pressed the button, his back to the nurse. 2nd Floor. He would return to the second floor to unite with the rest. He was going to persuade the others to save Kui Yi, but he would never come back. As for whether the rest were willing to save Kui Yi, it had nothing to do with him anymore. He didn’t think it was worth it to waste several lives for one Kui Yi.
When the button for the second floor lit up, Du Feng sighed in relief. He felt something touching his feet. He lowered his head and realised it was the nurse’s blue file. “I hope that didn’t scare you.” Du Feng knelt and said. However, as he grabbed the file and planned to stand up, he caught a pair of feet with his eyes. A pair of bare feet. They had a strange purplish hue. The joints were covered in frozen blisters.
Simple blue-and-white striped pants covered the ankle. Even though there was no wind in the elevator, the pants fluttered. Du Feng’s eyes shrank. These were the pants worn by the patients… Similar to the ones worn by the ghosts who were chasing him.
Damn it…
Du Feng’s observation skill was not as good as Jiang Cheng’s. If Jiang Cheng were there, he would notice the tag around the person’s right toe. That was a mortuary sign. It was normally tied around the corpse’s ankle or big toe. It had the deceased’s name, age and other important data. Due to local culture, the tag was tied on a man’s left foot and a woman’s right foot.
Du Feng was scared. No matter how dumb he was, he knew that he was about to die. Ever since he got on the elevator, he hadn’t heard any sound coming from behind him. It was incredibly silent.
He stood up awkwardly, his legs shaking. Time ticked by. Du Feng stared at the changing number on the panel. They just went past the fourth floor… The third floor…
The elevator kept moving down. The ghost didn’t do anything. Du Feng was ready. Once the elevator opened on the second floor, he would run out.
Quick… Quickly!
The elevator finally reached the second floor. However, Du Feng was stumped. The elevator didn’t pause on the second floor but kept going down. It only stopped when it reached the first-floor basement.
Finally, there was a sound. It sounded like bones snapping. Du Feng turned around with a scream. He was greeted by the scariest view of his life. The nurse was gone. Instead, a woman with dark and purple skin stood behind him. The woman’s hair was unkempt. In a patient’s scrub, she was about as tall as he was. Due to the mask, he couldn’t see her face. However, it didn’t matter because the next second, the mask was yanked off by a powerful force. Du Feng stumbled to the floor when he saw the woman’s face.
He tried to press the button to open the door, but it was pointless.
The woman’s teeth were startlingly white and sharp. They kept moving like some deep-sea creature. The woman opened her jaw to a degree beyond what was possible for a normal human.
“No! No…” Du Feng’s eyes widened. His body convulsed. “Ah! Ah…”
The screaming stopped.
DING
One minute later, the elevator returned to the sixth floor. The elevator door opened. The corpse that leaned against the door fell out. The headless stump gurgled out blood. The corpse carried its own head in its arms. It was terrifying.
Seeing this, other than Lin Wan ‘Er and Jiang Cheng, the others’ faces were pale. Weiwei lost blood in her face. Yu Yu shivered and swayed. Jiang Cheng had to hold her to keep her from falling. Cao Yang took a deep breath to prevent himself from vomiting. Wang Changgguo hid behind everyone.
Earlier, they were chased upstairs by the creepy footsteps in the stairwell. However, as they turned the corner, they bumped into the frightened Du Feng. However, for some unknown reason, Du Feng went insane when he saw them. He screamed, turned and ran. He shot into the elevator.
As Du Feng entered the elevator, Jiang Cheng knew that the man was dead. No one dared to approach the elevator. They could only watch the elevator doors slowly close. The moment the door shut, Jiang Cheng saw a flickering shadow behind Du Feng.
Just as they prepared to leave, the elevator returned to their floor. The door opened, and it was like hell.
Du Feng’s head was cradled in his arms. The face was covered in fear. It was hard to tell what he saw before he died. Jiang Cheng walked over slowly. Lin Wan ‘Er stood to the side because she didn’t want to get blood on her shoes. She examined Du Feng’s corpse.
After a quick check, Jiang Cheng backed away. “There are no extra wounds on the body.” Jiang Cheng pointed at Du Feng’s head. In other words, decapitation was the fatal wound. This matched the clues they had found. The three male staff also died from the same reason.
Seeing the wound around Du Feng’s neck, Cao Yang choked.
The exposed white bones and the twisted muscles… It was hard to imagine what he had gone through.
