No One Will Ever Hurt You Again I Promise-Chapter 46: So You Came Back
Immersed in REM sleep, Aike confronts cruel memories of the past. Taking refuge in a closet plunged into the darkness of a deep and endless night, he waits for his brother to find him. Sitting on the floor with his elbows resting on his legs, his head between his hands to cover his eyes, he was afraid to face all the darkness surrounding him. He was scared it would swallow him up before his brother could find him.
He doesn’t know why he’s taking so long to reach him, but Aike remains hopeful that he’ll find him soon because they promised each other never to leave so that they can overcome all the obstacles of this world between them. But he’s been locked up here for hours, and his brother is still not here. What is happening? Why can’t I hear or see you? He sobbed into his hands, shaking in horror.
If you hide your eyes, how will you know if you’re not alone or not? A voice close to him whispers to him. He jumps and starts to panic; the voice he hears is nothing like his brother’s. Nobody but the two knew their hiding place, so he chose the closet. Because his brother will know where to look for him without wasting time, the fact that someone else was able to unbolt at his meeting place destabilizes him.
Hey, don’t panic, picks up the voice with a lot more gentleness than before. I’m not here to scare you or hurt you. I want to help you find your brother and get you out of the dark before it swallows you whole. It’s getting darker and darker here, and you don’t like the night, do you?
Who are you? How do you know my brother? How do you know I’m afraid of the dark?
Don’t you remember me? I’m a friend of yours. You’re the one who showed me this place, but before, it wasn’t so dark. It feels like you’re suffocating here. And you fear that it fuels the darkness in the room. I’m here now; you don’t need to be afraid.
I don’t know you, and I’ve never shown anyone this place. It’s between my brother and me. You’re just a stranger, so how come you got here before my brother? Is it my mother who sent you?
I assure you we have known each other for a long time, and I will never be your mother’s minion. You remember, I promised to protect you from her one day, and I intend to do so.
So come with me, so we can get out of there to find your brother. Your fear prevents you from contacting him, and this darkness is a barrier between you two. If you stay here too long, you risk staying here forever, and your brother will be saddened, become a shadow of himself, and I, too, don’t want to be separated from you a second and a third time, Lugh.
When he heard the name pronounced by the newcomer, it startled him; he had a feeling of déjà vu. This person allowed himself to break into his hiding place far from the torments of his mother. He often used this hiding place when he and his brother could not meet for whole days. Just because their mother harbored the crazy and furious idea of breaking them apart, she was addicted to the idea of making them addicted to her by forbidding them to leave their room until she ordered it.
That was her way of controlling them and being their only reason for being, but she was seriously mistaken about the extent of the bond that unites the two boys.
The boys can spend endless hours and hours between them away from people while being under surveillance, without anyone knowing what they are up to or realizing they are cheating. If they can’t see each other physically, they will communicate mentally. So that’s how they ended up making the closet the only place their mother couldn’t reach them.
Yes, that’s it. That’s the name given to me by my childhood friend, the friend in my dreams, but I haven’t seen him for a long time. He disappeared after a night we fought over some stupid stuff. What was it about exactly? He begins to think at full speed to remember his childhood friend, and without knowing why, his heart begins to beat very quickly, at the same speed as his thoughts.
Is it because he found a longtime friend in this circumstance, or is it because he waited days and nights for his friend to come back without ever seeing him until he forgot everything about him?
However, an inexplicable thing happens because he begins to remember a little about who this voice could be that speaks to him. The cupboard started to come to life, and rays of sunlight began to seep through the cracks in the wood, coming out from everywhere.
The voice next to him notices the change in the room and smiles softly before speaking. So are you starting to remember me? These rays of the sun or lights prove that your fear is beginning to dissipate.
No, what an idea. I still don’t remember who you are; you’re still a nobody who invited himself into my lair. He slowly opened his eyes, his pretty hands still on his face; he spread his slender fingers so he could look around the room to check for himself. And at the same time, he wanted to get an idea of how the person talking to him was.
To his disappointment, he didn’t meet anyone; he was alone in the room. Suddenly, his panic returns to the same point as before; the rays of light disappear as the room falls into darkness again, letting him sink into that pit of darkness and even more frightening blackness than the first time.
I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you; you’re still the same, play with other people’s minds, and arrive when no one expected you to leave without leaving a word or a trace. You’re still an overconfident, arrogant, and pretentious little asshole, William.
So you remember my name? If you remember me, why did you say otherwise? You don’t want me as your friend anymore, do you?
You were never my friend that I know. You were just a little snooper who infiltrated my dreams and life and finally disappeared as you had come without a trace. Can you tell me how I can consider someone like you a friend? He said, boldly straightening his chest.
He needs to keep his posture. Staying hunched in front of him like this will not improve his image. Talking to his longtime friend in such a posture is a sign of weakness for him. He must see that he is still as impressive and radiant as ever. He shouldn’t let him know that he looks slumped and downcast or let him see his desperate side right now.
He raised his head, his chest bulging, his back straight. He sat down, peering into the closet’s darkness, unable to distinguish the slightest thing from a living or imaginary being.
I’m sorry, the voice answers him tenderly. I’m sorry for causing you harm and for not considering your feelings. The sincerity with which those few simple words were said sent a shiver down his spine, then a comforting warmth enveloped his body, and he shuddered at the sudden wave of heat that completely covered him.
Tch, shit, it’s been so long already, and today he acts the same towards me. How is it possible? He must have some magic tricks up his sleeve to make me let my guard down when he’s around me. He mumbles under his breath, fretting. He didn’t even notice that the room was bright, that he was no longer plunged into the dizzying darkness that threatened to engulf him.
So we’re going to get out of here. What do you think? You’ve been locked up for too long already, and your brother must be mad with worry that he can’t contact you. You always tell me when you’re not in touch. It’s like everything is falling apart around you.
He hurriedly readjusted his posture, which he had dropped when this wave of familiar warmth enveloped him. But he doesn’t remember at the time exactly when he feels this feeling of well-being. Maybe it’s when I’m with Ayke, but one thing is sure, it’s not the first time I think he’s felt such a feeling of comfort.
He looked up and saw that the closet was bathed in light. Pfff, my brother, can’t be too far, he muttered between his teeth, categorically refusing to think that it was because of his longtime friend who had abandoned him once all this was possible.
He scanned the room for the person to whom that calm, soft, and comforting voice belonged. Something he’s not going to say out loud anyway, but he admits the vote was a huge help. It did him good to run into someone he knew in that hell of darkness.
Are you looking for me? whispered the sweet voice a bit close to him. Once a haven of peace for him and his brother, this closet turned into his worst nightmare. Startled by the proximity of the voice, he almost ran away on four paws.
Damn it! But what are you playing at? He yelled, stiffening a little. It would be best if you didn’t surprise people like that. You’ve always been mysterious and unpredictable. I see that hasn’t changed today.
For you, I will never change. I am, will be, and will remain who I am. Aike lifted his head towards the figure standing next to him, who covered him with his shadow.
He walked away from the figure, pouting while rolling his eyes. Luckily, the light returned in time; otherwise, you would have stepped on me. Did you put yourself close to me, or are you messing with me, William?
I’m sorry, Lugh. I thought you wanted me to do as before. I’m not looking for anything you like when I’m near you, and even very near you.
Stop calling me that; you must have called someone else like that after leaving me all this time, right?
You’re mistaken, my dear. You’re the only one. Come on, big boy. Get up. It’s time to go.
"You’re the only my ass," Aike replies with a childish pout while glaring at him. " The figure turned to him and offered his hand to help him. Then, he noticed that his face was covered by a mist made by the light that illuminated the room, which prevented him from seeing the front of the voice owner.
Why are you hesitating? What’s wrong? The voice asks him again when he sees him staring at him with a question on his lips that he doesn’t dare ask, eyes narrowed in suspicion.
Why is your face foggy? Aike replies aggressively. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Foggy, but how so?
I said, "Misty, why can’t I see your face?" You’re hiding now. What are you playing this time again? I’m not playing anything. I didn’t even know my face was foggy; maybe it was you who refused to see my face after what happened the last time we saw each other.
Aike grabbed the outstretched hand in front of him as the figure jerked him up and pulled him to his feet. I don’t know what you’re talking about, and it has nothing to do with me. "Let’s get out of here because I’m starting to get cramped here." He let go of the hand that helped him up from the floor as soon as he was on his feet, and without waiting for answers, he walked towards the door.
I hope he has a human head next time so that I can associate a face with his name. He’s not as young as we once were, so his face isn’t what it was. He buzzes between his lips as he makes his way to the exit without paying attention to the other person in the room.
There won’t be the next time, grumbled the other behind him without raising the tone of his voice so that the other wouldn’t notice. Aike walked out of the room, leaving him behind without asking him to accompany him outside.
Under the horrified eyes of the small band, Aike continues to convulse with much more aggression when suddenly he calms down. He became calm again as if he was sleeping a deep sleep as his brother and El tried to bring him back to him.
Why is he not moving anymore? He’s also not awake as he usually should be. A worried Ayke turns back to El, standing behind him quietly as if he’s not there.
I don’t know, El replies bluntly, his hand resting delicately on Ayke’s back. But I believe he’s out of danger because his breathing is normal, and he almost told him that his heartbeat was back to normal too. He completely forgot who he was dealing with right now. The show made him lose all common sense.
He ends his little discreet rescue session; he walks past Ayke to take a closer look at his brother’s sleeping body, which seems to be really out of danger; this time, it shows no signs of malfunctioning.
He leaned over his body as he took his arm to check his pulse, and that’s when he noticed Aike’s other hand had its fingers intertwined with Howie’s. He grumbled to himself. I see he said, it’s you, not his brother, who brought him back this time, which means their bond screwed up for real, and I am partly responsible for this tragedy.
He turned to the other brother to tell him the good news that his brother is out of danger now but that they will probably never be like before. There is no question that he is the one who threw this bomb at their heads. Well, this news is more dangerous than a bomb itself. In the last part, he doesn’t intend to tell him. He prefers that they discover it by themselves.
He got away with it. He said to Ayke, "Hey, you did a great job, mate," hugging him with a big smile that faded the minute he picked him up in his muscular arms.
The rest of the group breathed a sigh of relief that echoed around the room like thunder. They were holding their breath and didn’t even realize that all four had their eyes popping out of their sockets. They don’t know what it would have been like for them if it had lasted a minute longer.
As the room’s atmosphere becomes more bearable, El tries to keep Ayke from noticing the intertwined hands of the lovebirds in bed. He leads him to a chair near the small group, which has finally relaxed by taking their place on a large, long sofa.
He was about to take his place, finally feeling free from this burden for the moment, when a loud noise caught their attention. Aike woke up from sleep crying as if drowning, his hand slipping out of H’s. He finds himself face-to-face with the small group, with Howie sleeping behind him.
The four rushed towards him, following Ayke, who didn’t take a second. It was as if he was already up when the others came back. He took his brother into his arms in tears. I missed you, he whispers in his ear.
While this small group finds a little peace on the other side of town, the drama, or the nightmare, continues for the Kerfs. These poor boys have just witnessed the wild death of their mother by a terrifying creature that came out of nowhere. That is now about to give them their ticket to heaven or any place that would be willing to welcome them.
She straightened up to her full size under their horrified gaze. With fear filling his belly, Perth stepped between the beast and his brother, passing him behind his back authoritatively without taking his green gaze away from the creature, as if he had not been afraid of her.
The creature hesitated; she wondered if it would be better to retract when she was close to the goal or continue until the end. With these two, their power will certainly allow her to stay in her form as a human much longer than the blood and flesh of those poor souls she has devoured these last days. But a Kinu without experience is even more dangerous than a Kinu who knows his origins and masters his powers.
He is cautious and protective, always ready to indulge rather than let down the people they protect. But the one he has in front of him is not tamed yet. It’s clear that he doesn’t know how immense his power is, so there’s no way I’m getting disintegrated by accident by a pretentious little Kinu inexperienced who exudes a powerful, flawless aura and an authority that can blind a blind man.
He moved his head from left to right, observing them. She has only one desire to swallow them in one bite; they both seem very delicious, but her mission has not started here yet, so there’s no question of her taking unnecessary risks.
She took a few steps back without taking her eyes off him, watching every movement of the boys. She met Oliver’s disgusted and hostile look with disdain, then a semblance of a smile almost appeared on her scarred face. This smile, unfortunately, is closer to a grimace than a smile in itself. That smile gives you goosebumps all over your body, nothing sexy or attractive. It’s just a twisted and distorted face.
In a quick and agile movement, she seized their mother’s lifeless body, which was dragging at her feet, which she swallowed in front of them like an ice cream cone.
"Nope!" cried the boys with all their strength. Perth rushed at the creature, entirely out of his mind and very pissed off, ready to give up his life. He only wants one thing to show this thing what he is capable of.
He’s already lost his mother, so he refuses to see this thing take away his most important person. But Oliver holds him back, preventing him from doing something even more severe. They weren’t up to standing up to this hideous thing, let alone Perth alone. It would be a suicide mission.
Listen to me. "We can’t do anything against her," Oliver says to his brother, who struggles with him to get out of his grip. This one only desires to give a life lesson to this thing that he can’t even name.
But it was not the time. Perth knows it’s just that he can’t control himself, and this act of barbarism offends him to the highest degree. He demands justice and reparation immediately.
We must know what we’re dealing with to prepare our defense better. We can’t fight against an enemy we don’t know, continues Oliver; otherwise, I risk losing my most important person and my soul with it. As his words seem to calm Perth, who slows down a little, Oliver continues to tell him what is in his heart. Everything he’s always wanted to say to him if he’s going to die today, he needs the latter to know how much he meant to him.
You always were. Even your dad couldn’t compete with you. You were, you are, and you will remain the one who means the most to me, and if I lose you too, I won’t have anything to do here.
He has guts, this little one, the creature slammed to herself. But we will see much later if he will be so stubborn when he learns what he is and when he knows the links that attach him to this golden blood. Then it starts laughing, a laugh so cynical that the house shakes.
We’ll see each other very soon, my chicks. Mom will pick you up when you’re ready to fly on your own with these words, she disappeared.
But of all that Oliver said, Perth only heard one sentence" I risk losing my most important person and my soul with him"
