No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1953: Hayes Edwards Extra (110)
In their senior year, Hayes Edwards bought a ticket to go abroad and met Grace Winter’s grandmother. Although she was over seventy, you could still see the elegance and intellect of her younger days.
Grace Winter happily took Hayes Edwards to see her campus, as well as the little shops, parks, and streets she frequented.
The five years apart were slowly filled in by scenes that were supposed to be unfamiliar yet felt so familiar.
Rosalind cascaded down the walls, white doves rested on the grass in the distance, pedestrians came and went, and the places where sunlight fell were filled with laughter and warm conversations.
Grace Winter sat on a park bench eating ice cream, hugging her backpack, while Hayes Edwards sat beside her, watching her with a smile and focused gaze.
The time she used to have alone was now shared with someone else.
Hayes Edwards stayed with Grace Winter throughout the winter break, watched the snow with her during the New Year, and personally cooked dinner for her, which greatly increased her grandmother’s affection for him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
After graduation, Hayes Edwards chose to start his own business, while Grace Winter chose to continue her studies, spending much of her time in the lab with her advisor and classmates.
That year, Hayes Edwards was twenty-two, and Grace Winter was twenty.
At five years old, Hayes Edwards wished to get rid of Grace Winter, the little tagalong.
At twenty-two, Hayes Edwards wished for ways to make Grace Winter look at him more.
Grace Winter is someone who is very focused on her work.
Many people think she’s a bit slow, especially when it comes to emotions, appearing naive and obedient. But one must admit, she is indeed very smart and especially dedicated to her work.
Lately, when Hayes Edwards and Grace Winter were together, she mostly spent her time reading.
Hayes Edwards poured her water and bought her favorite candied haws and ice cream. Grace Winter would sweetly thank him, then continue reading.
He could only sit across from her, watching, waiting for her to finish and look up at him.
But she didn’t.
Two hours passed, and Hayes Edwards was almost falling asleep when Grace Winter finally moved.
She stood up, and Hayes Edwards’s gaze followed her as she walked to the bookshelf, put back a book, and picked up a new one.
Hayes Edwards: "..."
"Grace Winter," he spoke up.
Grace Winter looked up at him and asked, "What’s the matter?"
He was annoyed but didn’t want to show it, tried to hold it in, but couldn’t after two seconds, "Grace Winter, I don’t want to read books or sit here. Can we go out and watch the fireworks?"
Today is the Lantern Festival, and the fireworks have been going off since Chinese New Year.
Actually, Hayes Edwards didn’t care about the fireworks, he just wanted Grace Winter’s attention on him.
Grace Winter thought Hayes Edwards, looking up at her, was like a little puppy wagging its tail, so different from his proud childhood self.
She couldn’t refuse him, "Okay, let’s go out and watch the fireworks."
Hayes Edwards visibly smiled.
After confirming their relationship, they seemed to have returned to childhood, only this time it was Hayes Edwards following Grace Winter.
"Grace Winter, do you want some ice cream?"
"How about candied haws? I recently tried making some, they turned out pretty well, would you like to try?"
"Grace Winter, is the book more interesting or am I?"
Grace Winter looked up at the very frustrated Hayes Edwards sitting across from her, smiled, and patted his head, coaxing him, "Good boy, Hayes Edwards, I’ll play with you after I finish this."
Hayes Edwards: "...Then I’ll wait for you."
She smiled and nodded, "Okay."
