Chapter 435: Chapter 433: Intense Heartbeat [3rd update]

However, as Ella Turner opened the car door and got in, she suddenly collapsed, leaning over the steering wheel, crying heart-wrenchingly.

"Ella..." Her crying made Maya Spencer tear up too. Sitting in the passenger seat, she bit her lower lip tightly, silently wiping her tears.

Every time it concerned Ethan Turner, for Ella, it was like salt on a wound. It also made her hatred for Liam Spencer grow more intense, even though the police had given a conclusion, she never wanted to believe that Liam was innocent.

Today, when she saw Liam at the villa, she wanted to suffocate him with a quilt. If Maya hadn’t been present, she would have done it.

Helplessly, she hated Liam to the bone, yet was forced to pretend to believe in his innocence. This torture made her anger accumulate deeper, blinded by hatred, losing the ability to discern right from wrong.

After crying over the steering wheel for a moment, she raised her head, wiped away her tears, calmly started the vehicle.

Seeing the scene, Maya quickly grabbed her arm, saying, "Ella, let me drive."

Ella did not refuse Maya, opened the car door, swapped positions with Maya, and sat in the passenger seat.

Inside the car, as Maya watched the road ahead, her peripheral vision often fell on Ella. She saw Ella lazily leaning against the seatback, staring ahead without blinking, seeming as if she had lost her soul.

Maya took a deep breath and cautiously said, "Ella, let me take you home!"

"Maya, I’m hungry, come eat with me!" Ella weakly said.

"Alright, what do you want to eat?" Though Maya was worried about Liam, given today’s situation, she had no choice but to set Liam aside and prioritize Ella.

"Hotpot, my brother loves hotpot."

"Okay!" As she agreed, Maya turned the car to the right, taking Ella for hotpot.

...

minutes later, they arrived at the hotpot restaurant.

The restaurant’s decor was quite avant-garde, resembling a bar, with many customers. Maya chose a corner by the window for its quietness.

At the table, the food Ella ordered was all Ethan’s favorites, and she also ordered a drink for herself.

After the waiter delivered the wine, Ella dismissed her, not letting her set the table, choosing to do it herself.

At this moment, her mood improved significantly, with no more tears, and a few smiles often appeared on her face.

Maya sat opposite her, not eating, but staring straight at Ella, watching her drink and recounting stories from her childhood.

She said that though she was a girl, she was more mischievous than Ethan since childhood, competing with him over everything, yet Ethan always indulged her, spoiling her. Speaking of these things, her lips curved into a knowing smile, as if Ethan hadn’t passed away and she wasn’t sad.

As time ticked away, Maya had been in the restaurant since 7:10, now it was 8:40, yet Ella showed no intention of leaving.

What worried Maya most was that nearly four hours passed since she left, and Liam hadn’t called her even once. Normally, he would call every half hour, being clingy with her, but today was unusually quiet.

Though he was unwell today, feeling discomfort, given Liam’s personality, even if he fell asleep, he would set an alarm to wake himself up to call her.

Hence, Maya began feeling restless, with a bad premonition, so she dialed Liam’s phone, wanting to hear his voice. What unsettled her more was that Liam didn’t answer the call.

Now, Maya grew increasingly anxious, desiring to return home immediately to check on Liam’s situation, fearing he had fainted?

Finally, Maya dialed the villa’s landline downstairs, summoning Aunt Smith to the phone to inquire about the situation.

On the other end, Aunt Smith confidently said, "Madam, don’t worry! I checked on Mr. Liam at 8 o’clock; he was asleep, probably too tired to hear your call."

"Is he running a fever? Did you measure his temperature?" Maya’s attention to Liam’s details made it seem like Liam was her child. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"I measured with a thermometer, and he’s not feverish, just asleep," Aunt Smith assured.

Receiving confirmation from Aunt Smith, Maya finally rested a little easier.

Ella, watching Maya finish the call, raised a helpless smile, lamenting, "Maya, the principal is truly lucky, not only having you but also taking your heart away. Not like my brother, who hadn’t even dated before he passed away, sigh..."

Ella’s sigh made Maya unable to respond. She didn’t want to deny her concern for Liam, so she didn’t explain, only offered her a smile.

However, her heart remained uneasy, feeling something was about to happen, her heartbeat becoming increasingly rapid. She sensed it, as she did before the incident with her mom and Ethan.

Now, the people she cared about most were Ella in front of her, Liam at the villa, and her uncle.

Earlier, discussing with Aunt Smith, she confirmed Liam’s safety, with Ella sitting right before her again. So she took out her phone, calling Aron Hanson.

She asked, "Uncle, are you at home or outside?"

On the phone, Aron nonchalantly replied, "At home, have you eaten?"

"Eating now, my heart is racing intensely, so I called. Uncle, don’t go out tonight."

"Okay, I got it; you be safe too."

The two ended the call without much small talk, exchanging a few words before hanging up.

After hanging up, Maya’s panic and fear didn’t dissipate, only having Liam on her mind. She wanted to see Liam immediately, refusing to wait another second. Even if Ella would blame her, she wanted to return home; without seeing Liam herself, she wouldn’t be at ease.

Thus, she immediately put the phone back in her bag, stood up from her chair, and said somewhat anxiously, "Ella, let’s go back! I’m worried about Liam, want to check on him."

Ella saw Maya wanting to leave, felt displeased, put down her chopsticks, and furrowed her brows, rebuking, "Maya, why are you so nervous? He’s just feverish; let him sleep it off."

"Ella, my heart is racing. I have a bad premonition. I have to go back." Maya didn’t intend to heed Ella’s rebuke.

Ella saw her determined to leave, quickly extended her right hand, grabbed Maya’s wrist, and pleaded, "Maya, stay with me a while longer, return at 9:30, okay?"

"Ella, I know you feel terrible today, but I really sense something’s happening. Let’s do this: we go back first, check on Liam, and if he’s fine, I’ll come back to the apartment and chat all night with you, is that okay?"

"No way." Ella rejected without a thought.
