No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 544 - 542 You Help Me Drink [4th Update]
James Bennett looked at Christopher Scott’s temper, smiled at Liam Spencer, and asked, "Third Young Master, you don’t mind, do you?"
"Chairman Bennett feels an instant bond with Maya and adores her very much. I’m not petty. I know you cherish her as a junior," Liam Spencer replied with official decorum and generosity.
However, James Bennett frowned, as if Liam Spencer’s words confirmed his earlier suspicions.
This suspicion was both accidental and bold, so much so that even he found it incredible.
So, he smiled at Liam Spencer and said, "The renown of Third Young Master’s magnanimity is well-deserved. Indeed, I felt an instant connection with Maya, like meeting an old friend I haven’t seen for ages. That Third Young Master understands this, makes me very pleased."
Liam understood the underlying message in James Bennett’s words. It was merely to hint that Maya resembled her mother, Madelyn Hanson, making him feel a sense of familiarity. There was no ulterior motive; even if there was an intention, it would never be the kind of insinuation Christopher Scott suspected.
Maya listened to the conversation between the two men, feeling a headache. She thought, why couldn’t they just have a peaceful meal; this was really enough.
Thus, she propped her right hand on the table, resting her chin on it, blinking her big eyes at Liam Spencer, seemingly telling him to hurry and sit down for the meal.
Liam Spencer looked at Maya’s helpless eyes, raised his right hand, ruffled her hair, and sat next to her with a smile.
After everyone was seated, the waiter quickly served the dishes, but Maya’s eyes only settled on those plates of pastries.
James Bennett noticed the girl’s gluttonous gaze and helplessly smiled, picking up a piece and placing it onto her plate.
"Thank you!" Maya immediately said thank you upon noticing the suddenly appeared pastry in her plate.
"Actually, the fish here at the villa is quite good too," James Bennett said as he placed another piece of fish onto Maya’s plate.
"Thank you!" Maya pursed her lips, thanking him again for his kindness to her.
Then, she immediately placed her small bowl of food in front of Liam Spencer, acting coy, "Third Brother, help me pick out the fish bones."
Maya was doing it on purpose. After some thought and considering James Bennett’s warmth towards her earlier, she felt that Christopher Scott’s analysis was not without reason—perhaps James Bennett was interested in her.
Therefore, Maya deliberately acted coy towards Liam Spencer, to make him understand that she was his fiancée, they were in love, and he should stop being so nice to her.
Besides, she was quite embarrassed by James Bennett’s attentiveness, making her uncomfortable and unnatural, and she also feared that Liam Spencer might be upset.
But when she turned her head to look at Liam Spencer, there wasn’t the slightest hint of jealousy on his face. The smile at the corners of his mouth seemed to be laughing at her for overthinking.
Maya pouted and was unhappy.
James Bennett noticed Maya deliberately not looking at him straight, so he tapped her bowl with chopsticks, reminding her, "Maya, the fish bones were removed before cooking."
"Oh..." Maya responded, her expression not at all pleased.
To end this awkward meal quickly, Maya finished eating and sat nearby with arms crossed, motionless, watching the conversation at the table.
On the side, noticing Maya’s sullen look, James Bennett cautiously asked, "Maya, are you full? Do you want some hot soy milk?"
Before Maya could answer, James Bennett had already taken the liberty of filling her cup with soy milk.
Maya felt like crying without tears, thinking, what on earth is this man doing? Are they even that familiar? Why does he always care about her? Even if he knew her mother in the past, hadn’t he said it was long since they last met? Besides, when her mother passed, this man didn’t even appear; their relationship was probably just ordinary, wasn’t it? Why was he so concerned for her? Her head ached.
To vent her frustration, Maya lifted her left hand and pinched Liam Spencer’s thigh hard, accusing Liam of allowing another man the opportunity to treat her well, making Maya uncomfortable.
"Maya, what’s wrong?" Liam Spencer gasped in pain and leaned down, gently asking while staring at her eyes.
"Third Brother, I don’t want to drink soy milk. You drink it for me," in fact, she usually loved drinking soy milk but was unwilling to accept James Bennett’s goodwill any further.
James Bennett’s kindness made her increasingly uncomfortable.
"Alright, Maya, be good," Liam Spencer said as he swapped his empty cup with Maya’s.
Hudson Moore, seeing James Bennett’s enthusiasm towards Maya, was baffled. He turned quickly to Christopher Scott and whispered, "Christopher, what’s going on? Did Maya and Chairman Bennett know each other before? I noticed how much Chairman Bennett cares for her; something seems off."
Christopher Scott glanced at James Bennett, who was staring intently at Maya, and sneered, "What’s going on? Isn’t it obvious? Third Brother has met a rival in love. The man is openly declaring war, yet Third Brother is still so gracious."
"It shouldn’t be like that! If Chairman Bennett were really Third Brother’s rival in love, Third Brother wouldn’t remain so calm." Hudson Moore found Liam Spencer’s attitude particularly unusual today.
In the past, when Christopher Scott played around with Maya, such as linking arms, Liam always insisted on pulling his hands away. Now, watching another man treat Maya so well without reacting, left Hudson puzzled.
Listening to Hudson Moore’s confusion, Christopher Scott shook his head helplessly, saying, "Ah! I didn’t expect our Third Brother to be so naive, thinking age is a problem, so he hasn’t paid attention to this matter."
Hudson Moore sighed, "But fortunately, Maya doesn’t seem willing to engage with Chairman Bennett much. Even if Chairman Bennett has feelings for her, she wouldn’t be swayed."
"A woman’s heart isn’t so easy to guess. Better safe than sorry," Influenced by Seven Murray and Ian Hobbs, Christopher Scott began to lose faith in love.
With Seven Murray, having had feelings for so many years, ending up being set up with Ian Hobbs. James Bennett digging into Liam’s wall isn’t entirely impossible given that Liam and Maya’s relationship lasts only a few years, incomparable to his and Seven Murray’s acquaintance.
Christopher couldn’t understand that love isn’t about time but about feelings; it’s not that the longer you know someone, the deeper you’ll love. Otherwise, why would so many people, who’ve known each other for a long time, get divorced? They knew each other longer.
"Christopher, don’t be so pessimistic. I believe in Maya; look at her stares at Third Brother. Her eyes can’t accommodate anyone else."
Christopher followed Hudson’s gaze, seeing Maya with her right hand resting on the dining table, back facing James Bennett, chin cupped, staring at Liam Spencer with a silly smile, talking to him and leaving James Bennett no opportunity to interact with her.
Christopher thought, it seems Maya is already vigilant, which finally somewhat reassured him.
After lunch, participants went to their respective hotel suites or villas for rest.
At the entrance of the clubhouse, Maya, Liam Spencer, and Christopher Scott stood waiting for a car. Maya thought, finally, she could avoid seeing James Bennett for a while.
Although Maya disliked James Bennett’s attention, she didn’t feel any repulsion nor found him annoying, instead, she thought he seemed quite sincere.
