Chapter 585: Chapter 583 You Are Insane [5 Updates]

Finally, just as Sophia Bennett was nearing her limit, she came to her senses, ran to the neighborhood surveillance room, and asked the security guard to check the footage. It was then she realized she had suffered for nothing—Christopher Scott hadn’t returned to the apartment at all that afternoon.

When Sophia got back to the car, she raised her small hand and smacked herself hard, scolding, "Sophia, you’re such a fool! Sitting there at the door for an entire hour."

As Sophia spoke, her teeth chattered. She was so cold that her whole body trembled, cold enough for her teeth to chatter.

She took a deep breath, carefully turned on the car heater, and then exhaled deeply. With her small hands, she gently rubbed them together and sighed, "Christopher, where could you be on such a cold day? Don’t be as foolish as me, freezing outside. It’s truly cold; don’t let yourself suffer."

Inside the car, Sophia kept the air conditioning on for quite a while until her toes were no longer numb. Only then did she start the vehicle and continue her search for Christopher Scott.

The wipers on the windshield rhythmically swept the snow off the glass.

Sophia furrowed her brows, growing increasingly worried about Christopher. She had a premonition that Christopher was seeking misery, making himself uncomfortable.

But no matter how much she thought, nearly to the point of breaking her head, she couldn’t figure out where Christopher might be.

Feeling helpless, Sophia called Maya Spencer once more. Maya told her that she and Liam Spencer had gone to several bars Christopher used to frequent, but found no trace of him. They also checked the café where he would meet Seven Murray.

However, they still couldn’t find any trace of Christopher.

Sophia listened to Maya’s report and also reported the situation at the apartment to her.

After hanging up the phone, she slammed her small hand on the steering wheel, cursing, "Seven Murray, you jerk, in such cold weather, couldn’t you have comforted him, said something nice to keep him there until I could get to him?"

Sophia’s idea was a hopeful one, yet even if Seven had managed to keep Christopher at the café and called her, Christopher might have only hidden further away.

Thinking of Seven, Sophia’s brow furrowed tightly.

She thought, since Seven and Christopher were classmates, could Christopher have returned to their old school to reminisce about the past with Seven?

Sophia knew the school Christopher and Seven attended. It was a combined high school and college campus.

Christopher and Seven had confirmed their romantic relationship in high school, and then Seven went abroad after his first year of college, so it was possible Christopher was indeed at the school.

When the thought of the school crossed Sophia’s mind, she made a sharp U-turn, completely forgetting about traffic regulations and that U-turns were not allowed there.

However, she was desperate to find Christopher and couldn’t wait to reach a traffic light to make a lawful U-turn, so she had no choice but to break the rule.

Half an hour later, Sophia’s car arrived at the school entrance.

But then another problem arose; it was one in the morning, the school’s gate had long been closed, and the guard wouldn’t let her in.

So, Sophia wandered outside the school in the wind and snow until she found the back garden, where she discovered a part of the wall with a table beneath it — evidently placed there by students who often skipped classes to sneak back into school at night.

Seeing the table was like seeing a savior. Without much thought, Sophia stepped onto it and climbed up the wall.

She shone her phone down to gauge the height, and suddenly her legs turned to jelly.

Sophia had a fear of heights, a fact she had forgotten in her excitement. Now, seated atop the wall, she realized just how high it was and became frightened.

When she considered retreating and looked back at the footstool, she saw it had been knocked over.

At that moment, Sophia felt a dead heart sink, and tears gushed out of her eyes.

She felt as if she would freeze to death atop this wall.

Estimating that the wall was at least 2.8 meters high, if not 2.6, she desperately wanted to bite the bullet and jump, but she was too terrified.

A cold gust blew through, prompting Sophia to cling to the wall, hugging it tightly, terrified she might accidentally fall. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"Wah..." Suddenly, Sophia began to weep loudly atop the wall.

At that very moment, with the moon hidden and the wind fierce, the snow still falling heavily, Sophia was scared, so frightened she no longer felt the cold.

She cried while cursing herself, "Sophia, you crazy fool, why are you chasing after Christopher? He despises you. Even if you freeze to death for him, he won’t be moved. You’re truly insane."

Sophia felt aggrieved, but even her self-recriminations didn’t sway her determination to find Christopher.

This time, she herself couldn’t fathom the source of her resolve, the kind that allowed her to persevere so long.

After her bout of crying, Sophia sat up, wiped away her tears, and said, "Sophia, since you’ve made it up here, you must jump down! If, after finding Christopher, he remains unmoved and continues to hate you, then give up! Don’t waste any more time on him."

Sophia took a deep breath, tossed her bag over the school wall, then threw her phone onto the ground, its light serving as her beacon.

Looking at the height, she felt utterly weak, without even the strength to complain.

Tightly biting her lower lip and holding her breath, she thought, jumping won’t kill her, but staying atop the wall all night might actually lead to her death.

After a moment of struggle, Sophia’s palms began to sweat.

Finally, she gritted her teeth and, with a swoosh, leapt down from the wall. Who knew how much courage that leap took? Driven by the pursuit of Christopher, she was willing to risk her life.

Even knowing this was a self-inflicted delusion and could end without result, she still did it.

The moment her feet touched the ground, Sophia felt as if her feet were no longer hers—pain shot up from her soles, her calves numb from the impact.

Nonetheless, she was fortunate to have jumped down.

Sophia squatted for a moment to press her legs and found herself unharmed; her legs no longer hurt.

So, she immediately picked up her phone and bag and ran towards the school.

The dormitories and classrooms were places Christopher wouldn’t go, so she headed to the basketball court.

"Christopher, Christopher!" she called his name, but in vain, as he was nowhere to be seen.

Failing to find Christopher at the front field, Sophia returned to the back field, reprimanding herself as she went, "Sophia, you’re really a fool; you came in from the back field, so naturally you should search from back to front."

Tonight, Sophia finally admitted she really was missing a screw in her brain.

At the back field, she took a lap around the track without spotting Christopher anywhere, not even in the center of the field.

Nevertheless, having come such a long way, she didn’t feel cold at all; even with the snow hitting her face, it felt oddly comforting.

Just as Sophia was about to leave the back field to search elsewhere, she spotted a figure lying on the withered lawn to the right.
