Chapter 169: I guided him

The air shimmered with residual psychic energy, the walls humming in anticipation.

Jian Rui stood at the center, his silver-blue aura already flaring, eyes narrowed and sharp as blades. Across from him, Stannis rolled his shoulders, red light pulsing around him like a heartbeat, steady and strong.

They didn’t speak, they didn’t need to. The moment the countdown ended, Jian Rui moved.

He was a blur—fast, surgical, relentless. His psychic blade formed mid-stride, a crescent of silver light arcing toward Stannis’s throat. Stannis ducked, countering with a burst of kinetic force that shattered the ground beneath Jian Rui’s feet.

Jian Rui didn’t falter. He twisted mid-air, landed in a crouch, and surged forward again.

Stannis blocked the next strike, their blades clashing with a sound like thunder. Sparks flew. The air cracked. Their auras collided, silver and red, each trying to devour the other.

"You’re not holding back," Stannis grunted, parrying a vicious strike.

"I told you not to," Jian Rui snapped, his voice low and dangerous.

Stannis gritted his teeth. He matched Jian Rui blow for blow, his strength raw and overwhelming—but Jian Rui was precise. Every movement calculated. Every strike designed to break rhythm, to corner, to dominate.

They clashed again, and again, and again.

The terrain shifted beneath them—spires rising, platforms crumbling, the simulation adapting to their fury. Jian Rui leapt from one ledge to another, raining down psychic daggers. Stannis deflected most, but one grazed his shoulder, searing through his armor. He hissed.

Jian Rui landed behind him and swept his leg. Stannis stumbled.

Another strike—this one aimed at his ribs. He blocked it, barely, but the force sent him skidding across the stone.

"Rui—" he started. But Jian Rui was already there, eyes glowing, blade raised.

Stannis unleashed a shockwave of red energy that blasted Jian Rui back. The chamber trembled. For a moment, they both stood, panting, a dozen feet apart.

Then Jian Rui charged again. This time, there was no hesitation. No restraint.

He fought like a storm—unrelenting, merciless, beautiful in his fury. Stannis tried to keep up, but Jian Rui’s aggression was overwhelming. He didn’t give space. Didn’t give breath. He pressed and pressed until Stannis’s defenses began to crack.

A blade to the side. A psychic pulse to the chest. A sweep that knocked him to one knee.

Stannis growled, trying to rise—but Jian Rui was already behind him, his blade at his throat, his aura flaring like a nova. Stannis froze.

His breath came in ragged gasps, sweat dripping down his temple. His body screamed to keep fighting, but his instincts—his heart—told him to yield.

He didn’t want to, but he did. Slowly, he raised his hands in surrender. Jian Rui stood over him, chest heaving, eyes still burning.

Then, just as suddenly, the fire in him dimmed. He stepped back, lowering his blade. The simulation flickered, the terrain dissolving into flat obsidian once more. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Stannis remained on one knee, head bowed—not in defeat, but in awe. "You’re terrifying when you’re angry," he said, voice hoarse. Jian Rui didn’t answer.

He just turned away, fists clenched at his sides, the storm inside him finally beginning to settle.

And behind him, Stannis smiled—bloodied, bruised, and utterly in love.

***

His fever had broken two days ago. The tremors had stopped. The migraines had dulled to a manageable throb. He was still tired, but he could walk without swaying, and more importantly—he could face Jian Ci without collapsing.

He opened his communicator, thumb hovering over Jian Ci’s contact but he found that he was blocked. Yu Xi blinked in confusion

He hadn’t blocked him. In fact, he would never do that to him. A slow, exasperated breath escaped him as he said, "Eros ..."

He unblocked the contact and typed a message.

Yu Xi: I am coming home.

The reply came almost instantly.

Jian Ci: (excited dog jumping for joy).gif

A pixelated dog bounced up and down on the screen, tail wagging furiously.

Yu Xi stifled a smile, his chest tightening with something warm and painful all at once. Idiot, he thought, but the word was laced with affection. He couldn’t wait to see him.

***

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.

Yu Xi stepped out into the Jian estate’s lower lab, the sterile scent of antiseptic and ozone hitting him like a memory. Jian Wei and Jian Rui were already waiting, arms crossed, expressions unreadable.

"Welcome back," Jian Wei said, voice neutral.

Jian Rui didn’t waste time. "What happened that day?"

Yu Xi looked between them. They weren’t angry. They were concerned. This meant that they didn’t know what really happened that night. It meant that Jian Ci didn’t remember what happened. Yu Xi felt a myriad of complicated emotions.

On the other hand, Jian Rui and Jian wei knew Yu Xi too well. They knew how much he valued Jian Ci. They knew he would never ignore Jian Ci in pain. Yu Xi would rather suffer torturious pain than let Jian Ci suffer.

Yu Xi reached for the hem of his shirt and pulled it over his head. Both brothers blinked, confused until they saw the bruises.

They were dark, fading marks trailing down his back. Some were shaped like fingers and others were unmistakably bite marks. Jian Wei’s brows furrowed. Jian Rui’s mouth opened slightly, then closed again.

Yu Xi turned slightly, letting the light catch all of it. "I guided him," he said quietly. "In the cave." Pin dropping silence followed.

Jian Wei: "..."

Jian Rui: "..."

Yu Xi pulled his shirt back on, his movements slow but steady. "I didn’t have time to explain. He was spiraling. I did what I had to at the time."

Jian Rui exhaled, rubbing his temples. "You guided him?"

Yu Xi was a little confused but he still said, "Yeah, Jian Ci probably didn’t remember but I guided him."

Jian Rui swore, "Shit!" as he pulled at his hair. This had to be a joke. He had just spent hours negotiating with that asshole, Leung, as his daughter had been put in a compromising situation by Jian Ci. He also had to convince his father that this was a good union. All for what? Yu Xi wouldn’t lie about shit like that, not to them.

Jian Wei yelled, "Are you fucking serious?" Yu Xi arched his brows realising something was wrong.

Yu Xi said, "Yeah, why?"
