Chapter 198: Current boyfriend gifting flowers

AN: Hey lovelies, I hope you are having a great start of the year. Maybe it’s the holiday blues that I forgot to write a few things.

Firstly, volume 2 starts at four years later. I didn’t want to waste time writing about those years.

Secondly, Jian Wei and Jian Rui couldn’t bring down Lord Leung’s empire immediately because that would alert their father so they are chipping away at it slowly and to avoid suspicion Jian Ci has to keep the relationship with Alarna going. Jian Ci is in the dark though.

Thirdly, Alarna and Jian Ci are in a relationship in name only. There is nothing between them and the moment Jian Ci imprinted on Yu Xi, he can’t stomach being close to any guide. He strongly feels resistant.

Fourthly, Alarna will be kicked to the curb the moment her father’s empire crumbles to dust and its real soon. So please don’t worry.

Happy reading!

Why did they want him as a boyfriend? Yu Xi listened with that same gentle attentiveness he gave everyone; shoulders relaxed, eyes soft, the kind of presence that made people feel seen.

He was kind, sweet, and if you needed anything, he’d show up without hesitation. And then, of course, there was the fact that he was devastatingly handsome. Sharp jawline, smooth skin, eyes that could cut or comfort depending on the angle. Who wouldn’t want to say that was their boyfriend, even if only for a fleeting two weeks?

Vigil nudged him with a smirk. "You would be surprised. We might actually have great advice."

Elias scoffed. "Yeah, right. I would rather wait for him to come back."

They were still bantering when a voice called out, clear and eager. "Yu Xi!"

Yu Xi looked up. Caelus Ren stood there, radiant and oblivious, holding what could only be described as a floral monstrosity. The bouquet was massive with Moonpetal Blossoms, Silverveil Lilies, and Crimson Starflowers spilling over in a cascade of rare, expensive color.

The blooms shimmered faintly, their calming aura already softening the air around them. It smelled like a garden in spring, like a peace offering from a royal court.

Caelus, heir to the Ren Consortium and a year below Yu Xi, beamed with an almost childlike pride. He leaned forward, extending the bouquet as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Yu Xi arched a brow, his expression unreadable.

The gesture was ridiculous and over-the-top. It was completely unnecessary but it was also sincere.

"I know it’s abrupt," Caelus said, shifting the bouquet in his hands, "but I just thought you would like them."

Yu Xi blinked at the flowers. They were beautiful, of course. It was thoughtful but the gesture landed with a strange weight in his chest. He was already beginning to regret accepting Caelus’s pursuit. Not because Caelus was unkind, far from it.

But because Yu Xi had always been the one compensating them, buying gifts to make uo for wasting their time. Caelus, however, was determined to do the opposite and that was to give without being asked, to offer without needing.

Elias leaned over Yu Xi’s shoulder, eyes lighting up. "Wow, you are right. I should be getting advice from you."

Yu Xi forced a smile, but it softened as he looked at Caelus’s hopeful face. "I love them. Thank you," he said, and this time, the smile was real, but even as the words left his mouth, he knew this guide’s days were already numbered.

"Let me walk you back to your class," Yu Xi offered, already getting up.

Caelus shook his head quickly. "No, no, no need. I know this exam’s important. I just wanted to wish you luck."

Yu Xi hesitated, then nodded. "Thanks. I will call you later."

Caelus smiled, gave a little wave, and turned to go, his steps light, almost buoyant. He didn’t notice the student he nearly collided with in the hallway. "Sorry," the other muttered, but Caelus was too far gone in his own cloud of joy to hear it.

Jian Ci, the one nearly bumped, paused mid-step. His gaze followed the retreating figure of the guide, noting the spring in his step, the way he practically hummed with satisfaction. Jian Ci’s eyes narrowed.

Back in the classroom, Vigil had picked up the bouquet from Yu Xi’s desk, twirling the ribbon between his fingers. "You like this?" he asked, teasing.

Yu Xi snatched the flowers back, his voice sharp. "Don’t touch my stuff."

Just then, Jian Ci walked in to what appeared like Yu Xi getting flowers from Vigil. Vigil upon meeting Jian Ci’s glare, immediately stiffened. The air between them crackled for a moment, and then Vigil, wisely, made a beeline for the far side of the room, muttering something about needing to check his notes.

Yu Xi looked back, startled by the speed at which Vigil had bolted. One second he was here and the next he was gone. He vanished like smoke the moment Jian Ci stepped into the room.

"Jian Ci, I need your advice again," Elias had pleaded. But Jian Ci didn’t respond. He just sat down, his expression thunderous.

Yu Xi didn’t need to ask. He knew that look. When Jian Ci was pissed, he didn’t yell. He didn’t argue. He just... shut down. And that silence was worse than any outburst.

Elias, to his credit, knew better than to poke the bear. He had seen Jian Ci like this before and learnt the hard way so he ran.

Now, Jian Ci sat at the edge of the workbench, his back straight, his jaw tight. The air around him was charged. His aura pulsing in sharp, uneven bursts that made the hairs on Yu Xi’s arms stand on end. It was like static crawling across the skin, an invisible storm pressing against the room.

He didn’t look at anyone. His eyes were cold, distant and fixed on nothing. His soulders were rigid and his fists clenched just enough to betray the fury simmering beneath the surface.

He didn’t need to speak. The message was clear. Do not disturb.

Yu Xi watched him in silence, the weight of Jian Ci’s presence pressing against his chest like a vice. He could feel every flicker of restrained emotion, every unspoken word vibrating in the air between them.

He knew what this was about. Jian Ci hadn’t said a word, but Yu Xi knew. He always knew what Jian Ci was upset about. Jian Ci thought he had got flowers from Vigil resulting in this little tantrum.

Yu Xi snapped a picture of the bouquet. It was angled just right to capture the full, ridiculous splendor of the Moonpetal Blossoms, Silverveil Lilies, and Crimson Starflowers and sent it to Jian Ci with a single message: Got flowers from my new boyfriend. Do you like them?

Jian Ci’s communicator buzzed softly. He saw the notification flash across the screen. He ignored it or at least tried to. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

But the itch to read it crawled under his skin, persistent and maddening. His jaw tightened, his fingers twitching. Finally, with a quiet exhale through his nose, he gave in and opened the message.

The moment his eyes landed on the message, his head turned. Next to him, Yu Xi sat at his workbench, posture relaxed, gaze fixed forward. He didn’t turn to look at him but Jian Ci could see the faintest twitch at the corner of his lips.

Jian Ci stood up and walked over. He didn’t say a word as he sat down beside Yu Xi on the bench, but not facing forward. He turned his whole body toward him, legs spread apart, knees brushing the edge of Yu Xi’s thigh. His presence was immediate, unignorable.
