Chapter 236: You must be cold

AN: Hello lovelies, I have been busy lately but I will see you today in the comments. If anyone wants to see Little Xi in his outfit let me know. Happy reading!!

Yu Xi chuckled softly, draping his arm around her shoulders. His voice was warm, teasing yet genuine. "You look so beautiful, the most beautiful in the entire universe."

Xiaobao’s grin widened. "Thank you, brother."

On Yu Xi’s other side, Jian Ci leaned closer, his tone playful but edged with something deeper. "Now you are making me jealous. I thought I was the most beautiful in the universe."

Yu Xi tilted his head, feigning confusion. "Who said that?"

Jian Ci, emboldened, shifted his weight and leaned fully against Yu Xi, his body pressing close. His voice dropped, intimate, almost accusing, "You did. You said, Gege, you are the most beautiful in the universe."

Xiaobao burst out laughing, clutching her cushion like a weapon. "You are just making shit up!" she teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Jian Ci glanced down at Yu Xi’s open neckline, the crisp shirt cut low enough to reveal the sculpted lines of his chest. The sight made something stir in him, an urge to button up the suit jacket, to close it, to shield it from prying eyes. He looked away quickly, masking the impulse with a smirk.

"Little Xi," he said, voice low, "you can whisper to me that I am the most beautiful. She doesn’t have to hear it."

A cushion smacked him squarely in the face. Jian Ci yelped, twisting to see Xiaobao grinning like a cat with cream.

"My hearing is good," she declared.

Yu Xi chuckled, the sound warm and unbothered, but Stannis was watching Jian Ci closely, his eyes narrowing as though he had just uncovered a secret.

Later, as they headed to the dinner table, Stannis leaned close to Jian Rui, his voice a whisper. "Your brother and Yu Xi..."

Jian Rui’s gaze flicked sharply toward him. "Not here."

Stannis nodded, but the confidence in his eyes grew. He suddenly felt certain that one day, he could come out with his relationship with Jian Rui to his family.

Dinner was lively, filled with laughter and chatter. The tension of the past days seemed to dissolve in the warmth of shared food and wine. Afterward, they lounged together, glasses in hand, playing games under the dim glow of lanterns.

In the shadows where no one could see, Stannis brushed his leg against Jian Rui’s, subtle but deliberate. Their eyes met across the low light, a silent exchange that spoke volumes. Jian Wei, tipsy and determined to beat Xiaobao at the game, noticed nothing.

Jian Ci, however, spent most of the night distracted. His thoughts circled back to Yu Xi, to that open neckline, to the urge he couldn’t shake. When the wine finally loosened his restraint, he acted.

He reached over and tugged at Yu Xi’s shirt, pulling it closed.

Yu Xi looked down, chuckling. "What are you doing?"

Jian Ci leaned in, his voice a whisper. "You must be cold."

"I am not cold," Yu Xi replied easily. They were outside, yes, and the breeze brushed against them, but as espers, the chill meant nothing.

Jian Ci ignored him. He shrugged off his black suit jacket and draped it firmly over Yu Xi’s chest. "Here. Have mine," he said.

He acted as though he hadn’t heard Yu Xi at all, downed the rest of his glass, and turned his focus back to the game, where Xiaobao and Jian Wei were still bickering loudly.

Yu Xi was stimulated by that familiar scent. The jacket carried Jian Ci’s scent and it was intense, flooding his senses. He bit his lower lip slightly, fingers curling into the fabric, and pulled the jacket closer to his nose.

The game continued, laughter echoing, but Yu Xi sat quietly, wrapped in Jian Ci’s scent, his composure fraying in ways no one else could see.

***

Yu Xi and Xiaobao eventually slipped upstairs, their laughter fading into the quiet hum of the corridors. A few steps further, Stannis lingered in the dark, the glow of his cigarette briefly illuminating his sharp features before vanishing into smoke.

Around the lounging area, the atmosphere was heavy with wine and nostalgia. Jian Rui sat slumped with his feet propped up, looking utterly relaxed, his eyes half-lidded from drinking.

Opposite him, Jian Wei laughed loudly, his top button undone, his cheeks flushed. Jian Ci sat between them, glass in hand, chuckling along, but anyone watching closely could see his mind was elsewhere. His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.

They drifted into old stories, the kind that surfaced only when the wine was deep. Jian Wei recalled how their mother had once chased them around the courtyard with a wooden spoon, furious after they had broken her porcelain vase.

"The more I ran, the angrier she got," Jian Wei said, laughing so hard he nearly spilled his drink. "And of course, being the slow one, I was caught first. She used me as bait!"

Jian Rui, tipsy and amused, pointed at him. "You prayed to our ancestors that day, remember? You promised you would never do it again."

Jian Wei groaned. "And you two left me to be beaten by myself!"

"She didn’t hit you that hard," Jian Rui retorted lazily. "If she had caught me, she would have hit me harder."

"Yeah, no shit," Jian Wei shot back, rolling his eyes. "You are an esper."

Jian Rui’s gaze shifted to Jian Ci, who was staring into his glass, distracted. He picked up a wine bottle cork and flicked it across the table. It bounced off Jian Ci’s arm.

"What?" Jian Ci asked, startled.

"You seem so heartbroken about your ex," Jian Rui said, watching him closely.

Jian Ci shook his head. "No. I don’t care about that." His voice was firm, but his eyes betrayed uncertainty. He had spoken to Leane, and what she told him only made him question everything.

"Then why are you sulking?" Jian Rui pressed.

"I am not sulking," Jian Ci muttered, swirling his glass. "I am just drunk."

"Okay," Jian Rui said, skeptical, taking another sip. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Then Jian Ci suddenly blurted, "I really think I am impotent."

The words hung in the air like a thunderclap. Jian Rui spat out his wine, coughing and nearly choking, his composure shattered. Jian Wei turned to Jian Ci, staring at him as though he were the biggest idiot alive.

Jian Rui leaned back, pulling out a handkerchief to dab at his lips, his expression half amused, half exasperated. "Can you say shocking things while I am not drinking?" he muttered, shaking his head.
