Chapter 123: Chapter 123: This is Part of the Fun

A chill entered Jasper Lockwood’s eyes. "She is not an object!" he said coldly. "Anything else is on the table."

Silas Coldwell’s lips curled. "What’s the matter, President Lockwood? Scared?"

After a moment of silence, Jasper Lockwood scoffed coldly. "Silas Coldwell, I took you for a smart man. Turns out you’re just a fool."

’This isn’t a matter of winning or losing, or whether I dare to. Chloe is not an object. She’s the woman I care about, and I will not use her as a wager. Even if I was a hundred percent certain I’d win, I would never do something like that.’

Silas Coldwell’s expression darkened. "Then forget it. She’s the only one I want. I’m not interested in anything else."

Jasper Lockwood said coldly, "In your dreams!"

The air fell silent again, and it felt as though a battle could erupt at any second.

Hearing their exchange, both Tristan Sinclair and the other man looked astonished.

The man whispered, "Are they... fighting over a person? A woman? What kind of woman has that much pull?"

Tristan Sinclair’s gaze deepened. ’Are those two really going at it like this over that Pharmacist?’

"So they’re romantic rivals?" After a pause, the man added, "Don’t tell me... Silas Coldwell likes Chloe Sterling, too?"

’He likes Chloe Sterling!’

It dawned on Tristan Sinclair. As if he had just realized something, the shock in his eyes intensified.

The man looked at him. "You’re just realizing this now, too?"

"Yeah, I... I just realized," Tristan Sinclair murmured. ’I can’t believe it took me this long to figure it out.’

’Who else could Jasper Lockwood care about this much? It had to be Chloe Sterling; only she gets this kind of reaction from him. So, Silas is fighting him for Chloe.’

’And Chloe Sterling... is the mysterious top-level pharmacist.’

The man spoke again. "It must be because of that reception. That day, Silas Coldwell deliberately spoke to Chloe Sterling right in front of Second Master Lockwood. He must have set his sights on her then. But maybe he’s just doing it to get on Second Master Lockwood’s nerves."

Silas Coldwell toyed with the chip in his hand and spoke again. "Don’t think she’s yours just because she’s with you now. She was with me before. She saved me, tended to my wounds, worried about me. You really think I couldn’t do anything when you snatched my project? I was injured and couldn’t be bothered with you, that’s all. I was on my way to teach you a lesson, but she was worried about my injuries and wouldn’t let me leave."

Silas Coldwell was spouting a load of nonsense, but Jasper Lockwood’s face grew colder and darker. He remembered that morning again—Chloe Sterling shouting "Don’t go" in her sleep, and then calling out Silas Coldwell’s name.

Seeing Jasper’s expression grow even fouler, a smug look appeared on Silas Coldwell’s face.

Tristan Sinclair and his companion were so shocked they were speechless.

Chloe Sterling... had been with Silas Coldwell!

’This woman was truly something else!’

A moment later, a slender, poised figure suddenly walked in.

"Jasper Lockwood..."

At the sound of the voice, everyone turned to look.

It was Chloe Sterling.

Chloe Sterling’s gaze fell on Jasper Lockwood’s face. She said again, "I need to talk to you. Could you come outside for a minute?"

Before Jasper Lockwood could respond, Silas Coldwell cut in. "Winning and running, President Lockwood? Isn’t that a little graceless?"

Jasper Lockwood stood up, his dark eyes fixed on him. "I won, so I’m leaving," he said in a low voice. "What, should I stick around and lose it all back to you?"

Silas Coldwell’s expression darkened. "What? Scared of losing?"

"Scared of losing?" Jasper Lockwood scoffed. "You’re the one losing right now, President Coldwell." With that, he walked to Chloe Sterling’s side, casually wrapping an arm around her waist. "Let’s go," he said softly. "We’re going home."

Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Done playing?"

Jasper Lockwood replied, "The wife is here. I wouldn’t dare."

Chloe Sterling: "..."

The others nearby: "..."!!!

The man across from Tristan Sinclair looked completely stunned. "Holy shit! Holy shit! What did I just see?!"

’The aloof, domineering, and unbelievably badass Second Master Lockwood is... scared of his wife?’

’No, no, that’s just their dynamic. And a convenient way to rub their relationship in his rival’s face.’

By now, Silas Coldwell’s face had darkened to an extreme, looking like a storm was about to break. He shot to his feet, strode over to Chloe Sterling and Jasper Lockwood, and fixed his gaze on Chloe’s face. After staring at her for a moment, he suddenly smiled. "Babe, see you next time."

With that, he strode away.

Chloe Sterling watched him leave, her brow furrowed slightly.

But Jasper Lockwood suddenly raised a hand to cover her eyes. "Don’t look," he whispered.

Chloe Sterling: "..."

Jasper Lockwood didn’t lower his hand until Silas Coldwell’s figure had vanished from sight.

Chloe Sterling shot him a sidelong glance but said nothing.

Jasper Lockwood turned to Tristan Sinclair. "You’re the one who called her."

It wasn’t a question.

Tristan Sinclair stood up. "I just didn’t want you to keep going at it with Coldwell."

The man beside him also stood. "Yeah, Second Master Lockwood, it’s not worth it. You and your wife should head home and get some rest."

"You two aren’t leaving?" Jasper Lockwood asked.

Tristan Sinclair said, "You two go ahead. We’ll hang out for a bit longer."

"Alright, we’re heading out then. Don’t stay up too late."

Jasper Lockwood left, his arm still around Chloe Sterling. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

By the time the two of them returned to the Lockwood Residence, it was already midnight.

Having woken up early, Chloe Sterling was clearly exhausted. She yawned as she got out of the car.

Seeing this, Jasper Lockwood said, "From now on, if you’re tired, just go to sleep early. Don’t go running around town."

Chloe Sterling retorted, "If I hadn’t shown up, how long were you planning to keep gambling with him?"

Jasper Lockwood didn’t answer right away. Silas Coldwell was the one losing money, so he, of course, didn’t mind. In fact, thinking about what Silas had said, he even regretted leaving so soon. ’I should have let that bastard lose every last penny!’

He opened his mouth, wanting to ask if she was worried about him or about Silas Coldwell. But he stopped himself, thinking it would only lead to another fight or the silent treatment.

After a moment of silence, Jasper Lockwood finally said, "It would’ve depended on my mood. Besides, I was the one winning."

Chloe Sterling: "..."

’Was he really winning?’

’Then why did he have such a foul look on his face when I arrived?’

Seeing the surprise on her face, Jasper Lockwood said, "What’s with that look? You think I was the one losing?"

Chloe Sterling asked, "If you were winning, why did you look so grim when I walked in?"

The corner of Jasper Lockwood’s mouth twitched. ’What other reason could there be?!’

Not wanting to recall those infuriating words, he just said, "Because I’m never going to look happy when I see him!"

Seeing his disgruntled expression, Chloe Sterling didn’t press the matter.

’As long as he didn’t lose, that’s what matters.’

The two entered the villa, went upstairs, and returned to their separate rooms as usual.

「The next day was Sunday.」

Chloe Sterling didn’t go out, and neither did Jasper Lockwood.

They spent the day in the living room, one reading a medical text and the other reviewing documents. The scene was surprisingly harmonious.

Tristan Sinclair dropped by again. Seeing the medical book in Chloe Sterling’s hands, he asked deliberately, "Chloe, you’re a Pharmacist too. In that case, have you heard of Lynn Chester?"

Realizing he had already figured out her identity, Chloe Sterling remained perfectly calm. "Mhm, I’ve heard of her."

"Have you met her, then?" As he spoke, Tristan Sinclair shot a deliberate glance at Jasper Lockwood before adding, "I hear she’s exceptionally beautiful and has already joined Second Master Lockwood’s team. She’s right here in the Lockwood Residence, in fact."

Chloe Sterling’s lips curled into a slight smile. "Is that so? I haven’t met her."

Tristan Sinclair chuckled. "Perhaps Second Master Lockwood is worried you’d get jealous. Second Master Lockwood, could you let me meet this legendary top-level pharmacist? I’m dying to know what she looks like."

Knowing Tristan was playing dumb, Jasper Lockwood dropped the pretense. He shot him a look. "Aren’t you looking right at her?"

Tristan Sinclair said with a smile, "Chloe, you really are full of surprises."

Chloe Sterling replied, "And yet, you still found out."

Tristan Sinclair: "It was just a coincidence."

If it hadn’t been for last night, he wouldn’t have figured it out anytime soon.

After a pause, Chloe Sterling added, "President Sinclair, I don’t want other people to know my identity. Please keep this confidential."

Tristan Sinclair nodded. "I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it absolutely confidential."

Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from the person in charge of the piano competition. He glanced at the screen and answered.

"What’s wrong?"

"I understand. I’m on my way."

After hanging up, Tristan Sinclair stood up and said to the pair, "There’s an issue with the piano competition that I need to check on. I’ll leave you two to your quality time."

Watching his retreating back, Chloe Sterling suddenly recalled what Maya Jacobs had said—that Tristan Sinclair admired Esther Sterling, and that many men fall for that "sweet and innocent" act.

Seeing her staring blankly after another man, Jasper Lockwood said abruptly, "He’s gone. Stop staring."

Chloe Sterling shifted her gaze back to him. After a moment’s pause, she suddenly asked, "Do you know what Tristan Sinclair’s type is?"

Jasper Lockwood: "..."
