Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Baby

"Mm," Chloe Sterling answered, feigning composure. She then pushed open the car door and got out, forgetting to even grab her phone from the seat.

"Chloe." Jasper Lockwood got out of the car and handed her the phone. "Your phone."

"Oh." Chloe Sterling took the phone and immediately deleted all the messages Silas Coldwell had sent her, including the last one: ’See you tomorrow.’

Jasper Lockwood just watched her actions, not bothering to look at the content of the messages. He knew Silas Coldwell was doing it on purpose; there was no need to cause himself more grief.

「Two days later, at noon.」

Chloe Sterling arrived at the airport right on time, just as a woman and a small child emerged, pushing a suitcase.

The woman had long, slightly curled hair and a tall figure. Her long red dress was utterly bewitching, a stark contrast to Chloe Sterling, who looked coolly radiant in a black trench coat.

"Darling, long time no see." Jean Kensington threw her arms around Chloe Sterling. "I’ve missed you so much."

Beside them, a three-year-old boy in a tiny suit, looking both handsome and adorable, watched the two’s long-awaited reunion obediently.

Chloe Sterling chuckled softly but said, "Let go."

Jean Kensington laughed and released her. "Look at you, always so composed. Not an ounce of enthusiasm."

One woman bewitching, the other coolly elegant, their stunning beauty drew quite a few stares.

Chloe Sterling lowered her gaze to the baby, then crouched down and asked with a smile, "Baby, did you miss your godmother?"

The baby’s eyes lit up, clearly happy, and he nodded vigorously.

Chloe Sterling pinched his little face, soft as a mochi ball. "Such a good boy. Come on, Godmother will take you to get something delicious."

The baby nodded again.

Jean Kensington said, "Are we going to eat first?"

Chloe Sterling said, "Let’s take your luggage back first, then we’ll eat. I’ve already made arrangements."

Jean Kensington’s lips curved into a smile. "Okay."

An hour later, the three of them arrived at a high-end apartment.

The location was prime, the decor was cozy, and the view through the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked most of Crestfall.

"What do you think? If you don’t like it, we can find another place," Chloe Sterling said to the two of them.

Jean Kensington stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing at the long-unseen city with a mix of emotions. After a moment, she smiled. "Of course I like it. How could I not like something you picked? But... is this a rental, or did you buy it?"

Chloe Sterling said, "I bought it. It’s in your name."

Jean Kensington looked at her with a dead-serious expression. "Darling, why don’t we just spend the rest of our lives together?"

Chloe Sterling: "Put your things down. Let’s go eat."

Jean Kensington, getting into her act, said, "What, you’ve got a man now so you’re just going to throw our friendship away?"

Chloe Sterling had no intention of playing along. "Are you coming or not?"

"I’m coming." Jean Kensington took her son’s small hand. "Let’s go, son."

After putting away their luggage, the three went to a nearby restaurant.

"It’s been so long since I’ve had authentic Crestfall cuisine. I want this, this, this, and this too." Jean Kensington sighed wistfully as she flipped through the menu, ordering all the dishes she hadn’t eaten in ages.

Chloe Sterling watched her quietly, then glanced at the baby, her expression growing a little complicated.

Noticing her gaze, Jean Kensington suddenly looked up at her. "Darling, what’s with that expression?"

Chloe Sterling said seriously, "I’m worried you won’t be able to finish it all and it’ll go to waste."

Jean Kensington laughed. "If I can’t finish it, I’ll just get it to go."

Chloe Sterling chuckled and said no more.

After they ordered, the server left.

As if remembering something, Jean Kensington added, "By the way, do you have to go to The Medical College this afternoon?"

"No, why?" Chloe Sterling asked.

"Something came up that I need to take care of. Can you watch the baby for me for a bit?"

Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "You just got back and you’re already shifting into work mode?"

Jean Kensington’s lips curved. "Can’t be helped. I’ve got a kid to raise, you know."

The baby immediately turned to look at his mother, his expression hard to describe.

’Mommy’s assets could support a hundred of me without a problem.’

Jean Kensington patted her son’s little head. "Baby, be good with your godmother this afternoon. Mommy will be back as soon as I’m done with my business."

The baby nodded, being very obedient.

Jean Kensington planted a kiss on her son’s fair little cheek. "How can my son be so handsome? Sigh, what am I going to do? I can’t bear to be away from you for even a minute."

The baby pressed his lips together, then leaned in and kissed his mother’s cheek in return.

Jean Kensington’s heart melted. Although she didn’t know who the man was, she was so glad she had given birth to her son. Even if he wasn’t perfect, even if he couldn’t speak, he was still the most important and cherished treasure of her life.

Chloe Sterling said, "Go on, don’t worry. I’ll take him to The Lockwood Residence first. Call me before you head back."

"Mm."

After the meal, Jean Kensington left to take care of her business.

Chloe Sterling took the baby to The Lockwood Residence.

It had been over half a year since they’d seen each other after her return from Country E, but Chloe often video-chatted with Jean Kensington and saw the baby, so he was still very familiar with her.

But after all this time, she still hadn’t found a way to treat the baby’s inability to speak.

She didn’t even know what was causing the problem.

After arriving at The Lockwood Residence, Chloe Sterling carried the baby out of the car.

In the living room. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Jasper Lockwood was sitting on the sofa, reading a document.

Henry Chamberlain stood to the side. He suddenly saw Chloe Sterling returning with a child outside the window and froze, not even hearing Jasper Lockwood’s question.

"What are you looking at?" Jasper Lockwood’s voice turned a few degrees colder.

Henry Chamberlain snapped back to his senses and said, "Sir, the madam is back. And she brought a child with her."

Hearing this, Jasper Lockwood turned to follow his gaze. Sure enough, Chloe Sterling was returning with a little boy...

A moment later, Chloe Sterling and the baby walked in.

Everyone in the living room turned to look at the pair, their expressions varied.

When the two drew closer, Henry Chamberlain spoke up. "Madam, you’re back. And this is... whose child is this?"

"My friend’s child," Chloe Sterling said.

"Oh." Henry Chamberlain smiled. "He’s a rather good-looking kid."

Chloe Sterling placed the baby on the sofa and turned to Jasper Lockwood. "My friend had something to do, so I’m watching her child for her."

"Mm," Jasper Lockwood acknowledged, his gaze shifting to the little boy. The boy was also looking at him, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

Chloe Sterling sat down next to the baby, her arm gently around his little shoulders. She thought for a moment, but considering the little boy might not understand a long explanation, she finally just said, "Baby, this is Uncle Lockwood."

The baby nodded.

Jasper Lockwood had expected the baby to call him ’Uncle,’ but was surprised when he only nodded. He immediately realized something was wrong with the little boy—it seemed he couldn’t speak.

His gaze swept over Chloe Sterling’s hand, which was draped around the baby, and he then asked, "What does he call you?"

"..."

Jasper Lockwood stared at the woman without blinking, waiting for her answer.

Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together and answered, "I’m his godmother."

Jasper Lockwood looked at the little boy again and said, "I’m not Uncle Lockwood. I’m Godfather."

Chloe Sterling: "..."

The baby looked at Chloe Sterling, then at Jasper Lockwood, seemingly unsure how to react.
