Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Because I Like Her

"Is there some kind of misunderstanding?" Tristan Sinclair asked again.

Jasper Lockwood raised his glass, took a sip of wine, and said stiffly, "No."

Tristan Sinclair: "..."

The lounge was relatively quiet.

Just then, Phoebe Sinclair’s voice suddenly came from behind them. "Brother, didn’t you know? Damian Rivers has his eye on Chloe Sterling, too."

Hearing her voice, Tristan Sinclair turned to look behind him and frowned. "What are you doing here?"

"Dad sent me to find you. You weren’t answering his calls, and he was very unhappy. He told me to come find you and tell you to come home."

"How did you know I was here?" Tristan Sinclair demanded coldly.

"Dad tracked your location and sent me."

Tristan Sinclair sneered but didn’t say anything.

But Phoebe Sinclair’s words had registered. ’Damian Rivers has his eye on Chloe Sterling?’

’What a star-crossed fate!’

"Brother," Phoebe Sinclair said again. "Dad wants you home tonight. He has something important to tell you, so you should head back soon."

After speaking, she walked over and sat down beside Jasper Lockwood. Her gaze fell on his face, full of affection. She paused, then spoke softly, "Jasper Lockwood, a woman of Chloe Sterling’s status isn’t worthy of you treating her so well. Women like her are all calculation and no sincerity. She’ll latch onto any man with money and power. Besides you and Damian Rivers, who knows how many others there are? Do you really want to be with a woman like that?"

Jasper Lockwood gave her a cold glance and said dryly, "That just proves she has more than enough charm."

Phoebe Sinclair: "..."

Jasper Lockwood put down his glass, stood up, and said to Tristan Sinclair, "I’m heading out. Tonight’s drinks are on my tab."

He had just started to walk away when Phoebe Sinclair immediately blocked his path. "Why? Why can’t it be me? We’re a perfect match in terms of social standing. We’re clearly the ones who are most compatible. What gives Chloe Sterling the right?"

Jasper Lockwood’s lips parted. "Because I like her."

Hearing this, Phoebe Sinclair froze, staring at him in disbelief.

’He said he likes her. He likes Chloe Sterling!’

"I don’t believe it! How could you possibly like some country woman? Your relationship with her is just a transaction."

A chill entered Jasper Lockwood’s phoenix eyes, his tone turning icy. "Don’t let me hear you say that again. And don’t think that just because you’re a member of the Sinclair Family, I won’t touch you."

Knowing Jasper Lockwood’s temper and methods, a flash of fear appeared in Phoebe Sinclair’s eyes, and she didn’t dare say another word.

She just looked at him with a wronged expression, appearing somewhat pitiful.

But Jasper Lockwood felt not a shred of pity and left coldly.

Phoebe Sinclair’s hands clenched into fists, her nails digging viciously into her palms.

’She couldn’t accept it. She couldn’t accept losing to a country woman. She was the high and mighty young miss of the Sinclair Family, someone who had been adored and catered to her entire life. How could she lose to a country bumpkin!’

Tristan Sinclair drained his glass in one gulp, stood up, and walked out without even giving her a second glance.

Watching them leave one after the other, Phoebe Sinclair felt even worse.

A bodyguard stepped forward and said softly, "Miss, let’s go."

After a moment of silence, Phoebe Sinclair finally spoke. "Did you get a picture of me sitting with Jasper Lockwood?"

The bodyguard nodded. "I did."

"Let me see."

The bodyguard immediately took out his phone and opened the photo album.

Phoebe Sinclair took the phone directly from him and flipped through the album. There were about a dozen photos—some of her and Jasper Lockwood, and some with all three of them.

She paused, then tapped on a photo of just the two of them. It had been taken right after she sat down, as she was gazing lovingly at Jasper Lockwood. Staring at his perfect side profile, her heart fluttered.

"Don’t you think Jasper Lockwood and I look good together?" Phoebe Sinclair suddenly asked the bodyguard.

The bodyguard was slightly taken aback but immediately replied, "Yes, you and President Lockwood look like a perfect match when you’re sitting together."

Phoebe Sinclair suddenly smiled, then changed the subject. "Have you found Lynn Chester?"

The bodyguard shook his head. "This woman is too mysterious. No one knows what she really looks like. We still don’t have a single clue."

"If she were that easy to find, she wouldn’t be Lynn Chester," Phoebe Sinclair said as she turned and walked out. "Keep looking, no matter the cost."

The bodyguard bowed his head. "Yes, Miss."

「The next day」

Chloe Sterling and the others went up the mountain again.

Just a few hundred meters into the jungle, she stopped and looked at Jean Kensington and the baby. "Jean, you and the baby should stay around here. Don’t go any deeper."

Jean Kensington nodded. "Okay."

Then, Chloe Sterling looked at Damian Rivers and said, "You shouldn’t go any deeper either."

"Why not?" Damian Rivers asked, confused.

"It’s dangerous inside. You might be able to get in, but you might not be able to get out."

Chase Langdon added, "That’s right, Young Master Rivers, don’t go any further. You’ve never been in a jungle before. You don’t know the dangers."

Damian Rivers frowned. "Hey, what are you trying to say? Do you think I’m that much of a weakling?"

Chase Langdon coughed lightly. "That’s not what we mean. We’re just looking out for you."

"I don’t need it. If something really happens, that’s my own problem." Damian Rivers glanced at the two bodyguards by his side and ordered, "Let’s go. Follow me in."

Seeing how insistent he was, Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything more.

Chase Langdon warned, "In that case, stick close to us. Don’t wander off, and don’t touch any of the plants in here. Some of them are poisonous."

Damian Rivers: "Got it."

"You all be careful. Chloe, don’t get hurt again," Jean Kensington cautioned.

Chloe Sterling nodded. "Mm-hmm. If we get back late, you guys go home first."

"Okay."

Jean Kensington, the baby, and two other bodyguards stayed at the edge of the jungle. She had even brought a tent today and was comfortably enjoying the natural scenery with the baby.

The temperature here was higher than in Crestfall, making it the most comfortable time of year.

The others headed deeper into the jungle. As Chloe Sterling walked, she scanned her surroundings for valuable medicinal herbs.

"Hey?" Damian Rivers said, looking in a certain direction with a curious expression. "What kind of flower is that? It’s huge!"

Chase Langdon followed his gaze and saw a blue flower the size of a washbasin. "That one..."

Damian Rivers glanced at him, waiting for an answer, but Chase Langdon just said, "I don’t know either. I forgot."

Damian Rivers: "..."

The bodyguard next to him said, "This is the first time I’ve ever seen a flower this big. It’s bigger than a washbasin! But it’s really pretty."

Chloe Sterling glanced over and said, "Blue Demon Season."

"Blue Enchantress?" Damian Rivers raised an eyebrow. "Isn’t that a type of blue rose? Are you pulling my leg?"

"Blue Demon *Season*," she corrected. "It’s named that because its flower resembles a Chinese rose, but it’s many times larger and only comes in blue."

"Oh, so it’s *Season*," Damian Rivers said. "With all those petals, the shape does look a bit like a Chinese rose."

The bodyguard who had spoken earlier asked again, "Young Master, can I pick one of these to take back? I want to... give it to my girlfriend. I’m sure she’s never seen a flower this big."

Damian Rivers: "Since when do you have a girlfriend?"

The bodyguard looked a little embarrassed and coughed. "We just started dating."

"Not bad, showing off your love life in front of me."

"No, that’s not what I meant at all, sir. I just thought it was unusual and wanted her to see it too."

Chloe Sterling immediately said, "You can’t pick that flower."
