Chapter 40: CEO (2)

He was sitting separate from everyone else. Seeing this Adam thought As long as I have time I should at least mingle with these children. At least my time will pass.

Adam came out of his office. He saw that all the children were playing some game. Some children were sitting and watching the girls in the class. Adam saw the child who was sitting alone and writing something in his notebook.

Adam thought This boy must be very smart in studies. But he should do some physical activity. Thinking this Adam stood in front of the boy. The boy had brown hair. He was very thin. Adam went and sat next to him.

Some children were a little surprised to see Adam’s action. They thought Today it’s definitely this boy’s turn. The boy’s name was Smith. They thought Today it’s definitely Smith’s turn.

Smith was also very surprised to see the teacher Adam. But when Adam’s attention went to his notebook he was very surprised. Because Smith was doing some accounting work there.

Seeing this Adam was a little surprised. He thought This work is either of some shop or he is writing something related to finance. Adam was very surprised to see this.

He took the notebook from Smith and started reading it. Smith tried not to give the notebook to Adam. But since Adam was a teacher Smith did not say much.

Adam saw that Smith had distributed all the accountant’s things very well. Adam was very impressed by this. He looked at Smith. "You are in the first year of your high school," he said.

"Don’t you think that you should pay more attention to studies and sports than these things? Especially on your friends. These days will not come back to you."

Smith was a little surprised to hear this. He immediately said "People whose lives are not lacking in money say such things." Adam was very surprised that Smith was saying such things. "Does this mean you are short of money?" he asked.

Smith took the notebook from Adam’s hand. He did not want to talk about his personal problems with this strange new teacher. He just wanted to be left alone.

"For now," Smith said his voice firm. "Soon with my hard work I will build my own business."

Adam was very surprised by Smith’s big words. Especially seeing that he was only in the first year of high school. Adam looked at his confidence. "Where is this confidence of yours coming from?" he asked. "As far as I know it is not allowed for young children to work in our country." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Smith puffed out his chest with pride. "Teacher you are right," he said. "But there is no such law that a small child cannot start his own business."

Adam was very surprised. "Your business?" he asked. "What kind of business is yours?"

Smith suddenly became silent. He thought about whether he should tell the teacher or not. Then he let out a deep sigh. "For now I have a small business," he said. "And that is I give a special price for a custom crop to many farmers from the countryside. And I sell them in the city."

Adam was a little surprised. "But you are a small child," he said. "And you also come to school." Adam did not understand at all. He got a little frustrated. "I don’t understand anything you said," he said.

The boy said "Actually on Sundays I go to our marked village with my father. And there we have made a deal with many farmers. From them we grow those vegetables whose prices are very high in the city. After buying those vegetables from those farmers at a low price we sell those vegetables in the city at a higher price. Although in this our only expense is for traveling. But since we know many things about the city our business will soon flourish. We just have to expand. And take this business all over the country." He spoke with a passion and a clarity that was far beyond his years.

Adam listened to Smith’s explanation. He was impressed by the boy’s ambition and his clear understanding of the business. "So where do you operate right now?" he asked.

"For now we only operate in our city," the boy replied. His shoulders slumped a little as he said this. The single city felt like a cage to him.

Adam understood immediately. "So this means this business belongs to your father not you," he stated. It was not a question. It was a conclusion.

Smith got angry. The comment hit a nerve. "No," he said his voice sharp with frustration. "My father is illiterate. He doesn’t know how to do such things. He doesn’t understand supply chains or market demand." The words tumbled out of him in a rush. He had been holding this frustration in for a long time.

"In the beginning I earned the money myself. I did odd jobs here and there. I took on some bigger tasks for a construction crew during the summer. I saved every penny. Because of that I was able to buy a small van for my father. That’s the van we use to bring the goods from the countryside."

He took a deep breath trying to control his emotions. "Although now we have started getting a little money in our house my father is very satisfied with it. He’s happy with the small profit we make. He is completely against spreading this business all over the city. He wants to open a small shop. A single physical store. He wants to buy the goods from those farmers himself and sell them himself from that one location. But in my eyes this is a foolish idea. It’s a dead end. We have a network. We have a system. We could be so much bigger." He looked at Adam with a defiant gaze. His eyes were burning with a fierce ambition. He was a young boy with a big dream.

"Because after that we will have to bear the cost of the goods that are not sold," Smith explained his young voice filled with a passion that surprised Adam. He was not just complaining.
