One-Eyed Monster-Chapter 579 - 576: First Unexpected Contact (Part 2)
Stan Sol and Kadi both found it unbelievable, Kadi in particular. He had tried several times before; those hands were completely intangible. How could mere illusions lead to a breakthrough? he wondered.
However, both Kadi and Stan Sol chose to believe Igor unconditionally, for they knew he was capable of miracles. A single miracle might be attributed to luck, but repeated occurrences suggested something more. Igor might have had his flaws, and at times his presence wasn't strongly felt, but he was, after all, different. Even in hopeless situations with no end in sight, everyone still chose to believe in him without reservation.
And this unconditional belief proved to be correct. As Sharkmon neared their ankles, it began to show signs of unusual excitement.
This excitement resembled the instinctive reaction of a starving vagrant who, after days without food, suddenly catches the scent of a delicious meal. Stan Sol, having spent considerable time with Sharkmon, understood this meant it had found delectable food—Spirit Power.
Judging by Sharkmon's current behavior, this Spirit Power seemed anything but simple.
Typically, only rare or exceptionally dense Spirit Power could excite Sharkmon to such a degree. Yet, the way it was hopping about now suggested it had found Spirit Power that was both rare *and* substantial.
Stan Sol was also puzzled. Why can't we sense this Spirit Power? According to my understanding, our Spirit Sensing shouldn't be much worse than Sharkmon's. Even if it's not as sensitive, we should at least be able to detect a trace of it. But in reality, we've felt nothing at all. It seems this Spirit Power must be an extremely rare type...
Igor's judgment had taken the first correct step; now, everything depended on Sharkmon's next move.
Stan Sol and Kadi exchanged a glance—a silent affirmation of their trust. Naturally, they both felt a surge of emotion regarding this development.
It's said that the best way to hide a leaf is within a forest. It now seemed this was indeed an effective method, as it had certainly fooled both Kadi and Stan Sol. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
They would never have imagined that those visible yet intangible Little Black Hands were actually part of a real entity—or, to be precise, part of its main body.
The simpler something appeared, the easier it was to deceive. This principle was straightforward yet frequently overlooked.
Stan Sol now understood this profoundly. I originally thought Sharkmon wouldn't be of much use, he reflected. After all, our opponents are high-level figures from the Dark Cabinet; dealing with a creature like Sharkmon should have been child's play for them... I thought it was too simple... Yet, it was often the simplest things that proved effective—a point he had completely overlooked.
And he had overlooked it instinctively.
Now he felt that Igor truly wasn't on the same wavelength as them; Igor approached things from a completely different perspective. It was precisely this difference that allowed Igor to demonstrate such extraordinary judgment before them, leading to the current situation.
They silently observed Sharkmon. It moved back and forth like a hunting dog, sniffing the ground, both excited and patient. Finally, it stopped beside Kadi's foot and remained perfectly still.
The situation was already quite clear: Sharkmon had apparently found the source.
Stan Sol was astonished. Finding the hidden opponent was actually this simple? he thought, though he couldn't yet fully confirm their success.
But a satisfied smile was already spreading across Igor's face; it was clear he believed they were already halfway to success.
Kadi was perplexed. Why did Sharkmon stop searching at my feet? Could the spirits actually be right beneath them? This might have been purely a coincidence.
As Igor and the others began their attempts to communicate with the spirits, the Little Black Hands had also been deliberating for a good while.
They couldn't reach a consensus, but they still unreservedly carried out their Summoner's orders.
Our feelings right now are incredibly complex, the Little Black Hands thought collectively. We're proud of successfully plunging those two into fear, yet the thought of returning to the pact brings a touch of desolation. We want to complete the tasks our Summoner gave us, but we also wish we could stay in this world a bit longer... Thus, their feelings towards Igor and Kadi were complicated. They've awakened something deep inside us, something that makes us vaguely sense we've been deceived... We desperately want to know where we came from, and where we're going... So, right now, we really want to communicate with Igor and the others. But we don't know how.
Then they noticed Igor gradually becoming unsettled, teetering on the brink of fear.
Such a display from Igor certainly isn't satisfactory, they thought. So, they turned their attention to the other one—the fellow who hadn't shown the slightest hint of fear.
That fellow is very special. He seems angry and dissatisfied with many things, but fear just won't take root in him. Plus, he saw through our tricks from the very beginning. At first, we thought he was just an ordinary monster, but upon true contact, we found he seems to possess a natural bridging quality...
This was an unexpected discovery for them. Once one of them realized it, it seemed they had found a breakthrough. They all hurried towards this One-Eyed Monster. Gradually, they discovered that this One-Eyed Monster was an excellent Medium.
Through this One-Eyed Monster, we can convey information to the outside!
This was a vital discovery for them.
But there's a downside, they realized. The Medium itself won't perceive any of the information. Only those interacting *through* the Medium can see what we're releasing. So, we have to find a way to get someone's attention...
They themselves were unaware that their actions had already borne fruit, as Igor and his team were currently using Sharkmon to locate them.
Inadvertently, they had all congregated near Kadi, and Sharkmon had also found its way there.
This coincidence was both accidental and inevitable, for things destined to converge will always find their way to each other.
Kadi felt no abnormality in himself; he was still very excited. So, he naturally bent down again to try and feel the intangible Little Black Hands.
The first contact between the Little Black Hands and someone outside their pact was about to begin. Though somewhat unexpected, it was still within the realm of reason.
Kadi's uniqueness made this whole situation seem absurd. But one mustn't forget: both sides were attempting to connect and had been searching for an opportunity. Now, Kadi's peculiar nature had conjured that very opportunity out of thin air.
Next, it remained to be seen if both sides could seize this chance. This first, accidental contact would not be easy!
