Chapter 24: Ghost Slave

Hearing the two patients gossiping, Feng Fan frowned, his expression darkening. He finally realized that something was seriously wrong with this hospital.

'For god's sake, won't these ghosts let me have a few days off?'

With a sigh, he got up from the stone bench and prepared to return to his room. He had left his phone there and needed it to call Luo Li.

'I'm an injured man and a new hire, I should leave this to the professionals.'

But before he could even leave the garden, a furious nurse. the same one responsible for him, appeared, flanked by two guards.

"That's the problematic patient. Take him back to his room," she ordered, pointing at Feng Fan. A cold smile crossed her face. "Let's see how you escape this time."

The guards moved in unison, grabbing Feng Fan's arms.

"Wait, wait! I was already going back, no need to push!" he protested.

But they ignored him and dragged him back to his room. Once inside, they forced him onto the bed and tied him down.

"T-This is against the law! I need to make a phone call, lives are in danger!"

The nurse scoffed. "Hmph, the only life in danger here is yours. Now rest! I'll be back at lunchtime."

The guards left first, and the nurse shot him one last disdainful look before following them out, slamming the door behind her.

Feng Fan clicked his tongue in annoyance. "How the hell am I supposed to pee like this? What an inhumane nurse! I'm reporting you to your superiors after leaving here!"

He turned his head toward the wooden table beside him, where his phone rested. Stretching his right arm as far as he could, he tried to reach it—only to be stopped short by the restraints.

"Damn it... Screw this, I'm burning these things off!"

Although his spiritual energy had been severely depleted, causing his connection to his inner palace to be damaged, more than a day had passed, and he could finally tap into his inner palace again.

Closing his eyes, he focused. Forcing Ma Chen to draw energy from the other side to regenerate his depleted spiritual energy. But only a few minutes into his session, his sixth sense flared, yanking him out of his cultivation session.

His eyes snapped open, locking onto the source of danger.

The door to his room creaked open. A blonde nurse stepped inside, holding a syringe and a small bottle of medicine labeled insulin.

Feng Fan's gaze locked onto the nurse's eyes—hollow, pitch-black voids.

Something unnatural was inside that body.

His mind instantly pieced the puzzle together.

'Bloody hell... It's Charles Cullen!'

Charles Cullen—one of the most infamous serial killers in the history of the United States of America. A nurse who abused his position to kill dozens, if not hundreds, of patients.

For years, he evaded consequences, continuing his murders while hospitals, afraid of damaging their reputations, covered for him. Their silence and unwillingness to bring the assassin to light only made it harder for the police to stop him.

Feng Fan felt a cold shiver run down his spine as the possessed nurse approached. The man's hands were steady as he filled the syringe with a lethal dose of insulin, aiming it straight at Feng Fan.

But Feng Fan was faster.

The moment the needle came close to his skin, he summoned his chains, wrapping them around the area to protect himself. The needle struck the chains instead of his body and snapped in half.

The possessed nurse's eyes widened in shock, he hadn't expected resistance from someone tied to a bed.

Feng Fan didn't give him time to react. Black flames surged around his restraints, burning through them like paper. The second he was free, he lunged straight at the nurse.

"Come here, bastard!"

They crashed to the floor, rolling over each other before Feng Fan pinned the nurse beneath him.

With a fist cloaked in black flames, he struck the nurse's face.

One hit. That was all it took.

The nurse's body went limp, his breathing stopping instantly.

Feng Fan's eyes widened. "Wait... did he just die?"

He quickly checked for a pulse—nothing. The man was truly dead.

'Why did he go down so easily? This doesn't make sense...'

Something felt off. Feng Fan had a gut feeling this wasn't over. Instead of wasting time trying to figure it out himself, he decided to call an expert—Luo Li.

Grabbing his phone from the wooden table, he dialed her number. She picked up almost immediately.

"Luo Li, we have a situation. Get to the hospital now. A ghost just attacked me."

On the other end of the line, Luo Li's expression hardened.

"I'm on my way."

"This better be worth it. You guys made me leave home on my day off!"

Wu Yunru's tone was filled with annoyance. He had been in the middle of playing video games when Luo Li called, demanding he come to work.

Of course, he protested, but when Luo Li threatened to teach him a hard lesson if he refused, he quickly changed his mind.

Not because he was afraid, of course. A junior should respect his seniors and listen to them. That was the only reason he was here. Definitely not fear.

After Wu Yunru and Luo Li arrived, Feng Fan wasted no time filling them in—the strange deaths at the hospital and the ghost that attacked him.

Luo Li's expression turned thoughtful. "Are you sure you didn't kill the ghost? It's possible you could've destroyed an apparition."

Feng Fan shook his head. "I can't say for sure, but it didn't feel like I killed a ghost. Actually... it didn't feel like I was hitting a ghost at all."

He recalled the sensation of his fist connecting with the nurse. It was nothing like the time he had fought the teenager possessed by the Parent Killer. This felt different.

Luo Li's expression darkened. "If that's the case... then this guy wasn't possessed. He was a ghost slave."

She paused for a moment before adding in a grim tone, "And that makes this situation even more troublesome."
