Oopss... I Married My Boss-Chapter 72: Unbelievable Truths
After informing his father, Adrian didn’t put his phone back in his pocket right away. There were also Bianca’s parents he needed to notify.
Adrian rubbed his face hard, guilt washing over him for not being able to protect her.
When Henry, Bianca’s father, learned about the condition of his only daughter, he didn’t go hard on Adrian. Instead, he immediately asked which hospital she was in. Adrian told him and also urged Henry and Bianca’s mother to take his private jet from Santa Barbara so they could arrive in New York quickly. Henry agreed, and their call came to an end.
Five days have passed since Bianca’s accident, and Adrian has not left her side. He hasn’t set foot in the office, instead moving all his work into her hospital room.
Bianca’s parents visited her every day. Each time, Adrian feels a heavy guilt pressing down on him. But Rose, Bianca’s mother, keeps comforting him—her words only deepening his remorse. Because Adrian knows the truth, before Bianca went to the ice cream shop, she had called him. Her phone records showed it. But his own phone had been set on Do Not Disturb.
If only he hadn’t silenced his phone, maybe Bianca wouldn’t be lying in that hospital bed.
While Adrian is lost in his thoughts, Bianca’s eyes, which had been shut all this time, start to flutter. Adrian, who has been resting his head while holding her hand, feels her fingers move. He immediately lifts his head and turns to her.
The moment he sees Bianca trying to open her eyes a few times, Adrian instantly shouts for a doctor, then remembers there’s a call button in the room. He quickly presses it.
"Baby, are you okay? Thank God you woke up. I’m so sorry. This happened because of me," he says softly, caressing her cheek as her eyes finally open.
"Do you know how terrified I was that you might never open your eyes again?" Adrian adds, not noticing the strange look on Bianca’s face. "If you hadn’t, I think I would’ve gone insane. I’m sorry baby for not answering your call," Adrian said, gazing intently at Bianca.
"Um, sir... could you let go of my hand, please? And maybe stop stroking my cheek, and calling me baby?" Bianca blurts, uncomfortable with what Adrian is doing to her.
She was stunned. When she opened her eyes, the man who usually bosses her around and always looks cold is suddenly holding her, stroking her cheek, and calling her "baby."
A shiver runs down her arms. Did she wake up inside a novel? Why is Adrian Williams, the man known for being so cold, looking at her with such care and longing? Is this still a dream? Bianca suddenly feels a little scared.
The moment Bianca’s words hit him that she didn’t recognize him and felt uncomfortable with his closeness, Adrian immediately let go of her hand. A wave of unease hit him.
"Baby... what did you just say?" His voice trembled with disbelief.
"Sir, please stop calling me baby. It makes me uncomfortable," Bianca answered, her eyes showing her discomfort with it.
Adrian’s heart plummeted. His chest tightened, as if his heartbeat had stopped. When the doctor and nurses entered the room, he quickly rushed to one of them, his voice frantic.
"Please, check her. Something’s wrong with her. She seems not to remember me," Adrian said desperately, urging the doctor to help Bianca quickly because he didn’t like the ominous feeling he got when she called him sir.
The doctor quickly began examining Bianca.
"Do you remember your name?" the doctor asked—Dr. Kennedy, judging by the name tag on his coat.
"Bianca Valencia Scott," Bianca answered clearly, remembering her own name.
"Can you tell me your current age?" Dr. Kennedy asked again.
"29 years old," Bianca replied without hesitation.
Hearing her answer, Dr. Kennedy frowned and tapped his clipboard with a pen, thinking deeply as he reviewed the notes.
"Do you know what year it is now?" Dr. Kennedy asked, testing his conclusion.
"2023? Isn’t it 2023?" Bianca replied, slightly confused by the question.
Dr. Kennedy sighed and said, "Ms. Bianca, it’s already 2025." He then turned to Adrian and continued, "It seems your wife is experiencing temporary amnesia, Mr Williams. She has forgotten the past two years. This type of amnesia is often called retrograde amnesia."
Bianca’s jaw dropped as she heard what Dr. Kennedy had just told her boss.
"What? Wife? Since when did I marry Adrian? This can’t be real. It must be a dream," she pinched her hand hard, hoping the sting would prove this wasn’t a dream.
"What are you doing?" Adrian exclaimed, grabbing Bianca’s hands when he saw her acting that way.
"Did I hear that wrong, sir? Why did the doctor say I’m your wife?" Bianca asked, turning to look at Adrian. Panic and nervousness shone in her eyes, making Adrian’s chest tighten.
"No, you didn’t hear it wrong. You are my wife. We’ve been married for almost three months," Adrian said, giving a weak smile as he looked at her. Sadness lingered in his eyes.
"Are we really married? How is that possible? You’re not joking, are you, sir?" Bianca asked, still in shock.
"No," Adrian replied shortly, not wanting to say more. He feared he might fall apart if Bianca kept asking and he kept explaining.
He turned to Dr. Kennedy. "Doctor, will my wife’s memory come back?" he asked, terrified she might never remember him.
"The memory loss is temporary," Dr. Kennedy explained. "It will return on its own, though the time varies for each patient. Some recover quickly, some take longer."
"Is there a way to help her remember faster?" Adrian asked, full of hope. He wanted Bianca to regain her memory quickly, not wanting her to forget him.
Dr. Kennedy looked between Adrian and Bianca, then exhaled heavily. "There is a way, but Mr. William, I strongly advise not to force your wife to recall her memories. Doing so can stress her out, and that would be harmful to her pregnancy."
Bianca’s eyes widened. Too many shocks had come at her in just ten minutes.
"What? I’m pregnant?" she asked, her voice rising in shock.
Adrian closed his eyes, struggling to keep his emotions steady, then turned toward her, wanting to ease her panic. "Yeah, Bianca. You’re pregnant. It’s our child," he said softly.
Dr. Kennedy glanced at Adrian before speaking. "The most important thing now, Mr. William, is to keep your wife in a good mood and to wait for her memory to return on its own."
Adrian nodded in quiet acceptance. After Dr. Kennedy excused himself, only Adrian and Bianca remained in the room.
Bianca stole glances at Adrian, still unable to believe she had married her boss, let alone was carrying his child.
This is insane, she thought.
