Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 807 - 800: Procuring Arms
Chapter 807: Chapter 800: Procuring Arms
After receiving Carter’s assistance, the whole plan suddenly became much easier, and Wang Xu slapped his forehead, not having realized that within the Church Court’s military sequence, there was a modernized legion predominantly equipped with Earth weapons.
Through mutual communication and coordination, a batch of military weapons was approved for purchase in the name of the Purification Legion. The Blaiqi arms dealers located in Holy Heart City had already stockpiled the weapons, simply waiting for the permit from Earth to start the delivery.
Thanks to the convenience of magic messengers, communication among the parties became exceptionally efficient. On the day after Carter agreed to help, Luo’er and others went back to the Blaiqi arms dealers’ warehouse to check the goods they had ordered.
"AKM automatic rifles, an improved version of the AK47, this batch is all brand new, Russian factory goods, you can still smell the fresh Slavic gun oil," the arms dealer eagerly introduced, in the dimly lit warehouse, to Luo’er by his side.
His words were a mix of Tasta language and English, and to say his English was quite standard was a demonstration of the Blaiqi people’s Earthization.
"This is a Type 56, not an AKM." Hu Daoke picked up a brand-new AK rifle, examined it, and then turned around to correct him.
"Ah, yes, of course, it’s a Type 56, we’ve been short on AKMs recently..." the dealer initially thought he could pull a fast one, but he didn’t expect the other party to know his stuff. The corpulent dealer immediately broke out into a cold sweat.
"The Type 56 is not bad either; after all, it’s also an improved version," Hu Daoke said, making a few gestures.
"The customer has quite an eye, I must say I’m impressed," the arms dealer complimented, giving a thumbs up.
"Here’s the purchase permit, we want a hundred AKs, and also thirty thousand rounds of M1945 ammunition. Get the goods ready; someone from the Purification Legion will come to pick them up," Luo’er said, handing him a previously prepared military weapons purchase permit.
Of course, such permits did not carry contractual effect. They were accepted mainly because of the endorsement from headquarters; otherwise, these permits would be no different from waste paper in the eyes of merchants.
Once an institution from Otherworld expressed a desire to purchase military weapons, it required approval from the Weapon Export Committee of the UN Security Council. Only after approval could the permit be issued.
However, it should be noted that this system only applied to non-UN Security Council countries. For the countries in the UN Security Council, they basically disregarded the Weapons Export Control Committee, usually approving their own requests, and sometimes two parties would even maliciously compete for orders.
This is the reason why getting a permit from headquarters was relatively simple; the difficulty lay in not being able to find a purchaser—that type of document was not something one could obtain easily.
In principle, an institution from Otherworld, once it obtained the permit, could actually purchase the corresponding number of weapons from any arms dealer. But as mentioned earlier, Earth parties often maliciously competed over an order, resulting in the permits having a certain directionality.
For example, permits issued by the United States generally could only be used to purchase American arms and were invalid for purchasing Soviet arms. In some extreme cases, even NATO weapons could not be purchased.
Therefore, although Luo’er had a permit in hand, he could only use it to purchase Soviet weapons and could not use it to purchase American arms from the dealer, as that would make it impossible for the dealer to explain to the Americans.
"Ah, no problem, the goods are all ready, we can deliver anytime!" the arms dealer took the permit, looked it over carefully, and then carefully folded it and tucked it into his shirt pocket.
"By the way," Luo’er, looking around at the arsenal filling the warehouse and then turning to the dealer, asked, "do you sell submachine guns here, like the PPSh-41 or M3 submachine guns?"
"Uh," hearing Luo’er’s question, the arms dealer paused for a while, then cautiously asked, "If I may be so bold to inquire, what does the sir intend to do with the submachine guns?"
"Of course, to use them. What else?" Luo’er shrugged as he replied.
"This," the arms dealer hesitated again for quite a while, then asked again cautiously, "sir, these guns... they’re not meant for the military, are they?"
"Why do you say that?" Luo’er’s curiosity was piqued by his comment.
"Um..." the arms dealer looked around, then pursed his lips, leaned closer to Luo’er, and whispered, "If sir intends to use them for other purposes, it’s better not to consider submachine guns. You’d find it easier to buy assault rifles instead."
"Is there a trick to this?" Luo’er looked at him and asked.
"Your Excellency might not be aware..." the arms dealer bit his teeth and then continued, "Submachine guns, being military weapons, are not favored by Otherworlders. If they are used for other purposes, it’s very likely that Earth will find out. If the Weapon Export Committee investigates, we cannot afford that responsibility."
When he spoke, he used the term "Otherworlders," a relatively common habit among the Blaiqi people. Most Blaiqi people consider themselves to be New Earthlings, hence they refer to their own kind as Otherworlders and themselves as Earthlings.
"Then why are you stocking submachine guns?" Luo’er asked curiously.
"We don’t stock many submachine guns. Typically, we receive orders here and then go to Yazhi City to place orders. Submachine guns, well, they are hard to sell and we dare not sell them, so we do not dare to stock those kinds of goods."
"Who usually buys them then?" Luo’er asked.
"Usually, they are some law enforcement agencies, like police or prisons, but the quantity purchased isn’t large. Because the purchasing volume is small, the cost of the bullets is relatively expensive. Most of the time, ammunition costs are driven down by the consumption of handguns," the arms dealer answered truthfully.
"Have there been any recent orders for submachine guns?" Hearing his words, Luo’er asked curiously.
"This," the arms dealer paused for a moment, then hesitantly said, "that’s commercial secrecy, Your Excellency. Please don’t make it difficult for me. If you want to know, you might try checking the intelligence network."
"Alright then, thank you for your time!" Luo’er nodded and decided to let the arms dealer off the hook, not pursuing the question further.
"Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Your Excellency. When do you plan to pick up your order?" the arms dealer asked respectfully.
"Tomorrow, if your goods are ready by then, I will have the Purification Legion come to collect them," Luo’er said after thinking for a moment.
"Aye, no problem. The goods are all prepared. Then we will await your good news tomorrow," the arms dealer said with a smile.
After leaving the arms warehouse, the two felt they reeked of gun oil. Hu Daoke took a sniff and couldn’t help but frown, then turned to Luo’er and asked, "Boss, are we going to check the intelligence network for the whereabouts of those submachine guns?"
"Forget it, one could guess these things, and even if we knew, we couldn’t do anything about them. Let’s not waste our time for nothing," Luo’er shrugged and said.
"So, we’re going back then?" Hu Daoke asked.
"Yeah, let’s go back!" Saying this, Luo’er started walking in the opposite direction.
"Boss, you’re going the wrong way," Hu Daoke pointed out, indicating the way they came.
"I’m not," Luo’er turned around and gave him a meaningful glance. Hu Daoke was momentarily stunned, then quickly caught on and hurriedly followed him.
"Enemies?" Hu Daoke’s eyes widened as he asked in a low voice.
"Yeah, we’ve been spotted," Luo’er nodded, tilting his head slightly and catching a glimpse of a sneaky man behind them with the corner of his eye.
"So, should we...?" Hu Daoke spoke and made a throat-slitting gesture.
"Have Fula keep an eye on him. Let’s see if we can lead him away. If not, let’s find a place to take care of him," Luo’er said calmly.
"This feels a bit dangerous..." Hu Daoke took a deep breath, his hand hovering nervously over the handle of the pistol in his chest, and said, "It would be better if Feng were here."
"If Feng were here, this place would turn into a Battlefield, and that would be even more dangerous," Luo’er shrugged and replied.
"That’s true," Hu Daoke thought about it and said.
