Chapter 415: Chapter 275: Invading the Town_4

The team immediately understood the gesture and moved to seal off the building. Even if an enemy were to jump out of the windows, they would only collide with the sharp Spears, while some reloaded their muskets.

However, the captain instead put down his Spear and drew the Short Sword he carried, loading his pistol. Inside the building, long weapons were impractical, whereas short weapons were more useful.

Because they had so few soldiers, Lance trained them all as if they were elite troops. Whether they were Spearmen or musketeers, they were basically all equipped with a pistol and a Short Sword as secondary weapons.

After setting up the blockade, the captain and two other uninjured, well-conditioned members stepped forward.

"Go!"

At his command, the captain kicked open the front door and led the charge inside.

They had practiced how to search and clear a building. As soon as the door was breached, others followed in.

But as soon as the leading captain rushed in, he found that the enemy burst out from behind the door at the moment of entry.

There were only three steps between them. He could even see the ferocious face of the enemy and the iron claws plunging towards his own face.

At that moment, there was no room to raise his pistol. Fortunately, his combat instincts kicked in amid the crisis, and he dodged the iron claws by twisting and turning his head.

Without even time to aim, his training and muscle memory took over, lifting his pistol and firing from the hip.

With a BANG! the pistol went off. At such close range, the point-blank shot tore through the enemy’s abdomen, and the shell even burst out the other side, blossoming into a flower of blood.

But the captain didn’t hesitate for a moment. He immediately thrust his Short Sword forward, knowing from past encounters that such a gunshot wound wouldn’t kill them.

He had to strike while they were wounded!

The Short Sword exploded into action, piercing the chest in and out thrice at a terrifying speed, and that still wasn’t enough. With a backhanded slash, he sliced open the throat, and blood burst forth, instantly staining his breastplate red.

By the time the enemy collapsed thunderously, he was as dead as one could be.

The captain looked down at the corpse, gasping for air. What had just occurred spanned but the space of a breath, and his adrenal rush still had him in a state of excitement.

Looking at the body on the ground, he realized that if he had hesitated at all, it might have been him lying there.

Despite the turn of events, the team moved with order and no panic, the two following soldiers immediately controlling the areas to the left and right of the captain.

"Captain, are you all right?"

Coming to his senses, the captain wiped his face with his hand, and seeing blood, he knew he had been grazed by the enemy’s attack.

Seeing the blood, his expression turned fierce as he wiped the blood from his face and spit disdainfully onto the corpse.

Damn, that was a close call.

His life belonged to the Lord, and no one could take it away.

"Continue the search, and be wary of the enemy."

The captain, undisturbed by the wound on his face, immediately wiped the blood off his musket. The rules for using and maintaining a musket given by the Lord warned of instances where a blood-soaked musket might not fire.

In such a situation, one’s weapon was their lifeline; if the musket had misfired, he would have been dead, so it demanded attention.

The soldiers entered one by one, and the sound of kicked-in doors echoed through the small house. Each soldier raised their pistol in readiness; at close range, they could subdue an enemy with one shot and then finish them with a knife.

The captain had just finished wiping his firearm and reloading when a shout came from another area.

A soldier kicked open a door and stopped, shocked, in the doorway. "Ah!" A scream echoed from within. When the captain arrived, he saw a woman cowering in the corner of the room. It was clear the scream had come from her when the door was breached; her face was now full of fear and tears. No wonder the soldier hesitated.

"Help me, I was kidnapped..."

The woman started to rise, trying to say something, but as she made a slight movement, the captain raised his pistol and fired without any hesitation or delay.

The moment the gunshot rang out, the bedsheets were stained with fresh blood, and the woman fell backward into the corner, her head tilted. On the wall above, you could see a splatter of gore.

A headshot. As dead as dead gets.
