Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 325 - 313: Ms. Langley’s Gift
After parking the car, Sienna Thornton and Sylvia Langley waited for the elevator in the lobby.
Sylvia glanced at Sienna’s light blue Volvo: "Why don’t you let Jules get you a better car? At least a Mercedes or BMW."
Sienna smiled: "It’s just for getting around, as long as it runs. I really like my Volvo."
The elevator arrived, and Sienna held the door open for Sylvia to enter first. Before selecting a floor, she asked, "Auntie, would you like to go upstairs first, or come with me to buy some groceries?"
"Groceries? Sure," Sylvia agreed cheerfully.
Sienna pressed the button for the third floor where the fresh food market was located.
As the elevator doors closed slowly, Sylvia said, "You’re a partner at a law firm now. Sometimes you need to meet clients and talk business. If people see you driving a car that costs just over two hundred thousand, they might think the firm’s not doing well, suspecting that a partner can’t even afford a good car, which would make them question the firm’s credibility."
Sylvia made a valid point, and Sienna listened seriously without refuting.
"We can afford a nice car, no need to skimp and risk affecting your work, don’t you think, Thornton?" Sylvia smiled, "You opened the law firm, and I haven’t given you anything. How about this, tomorrow I’ll pick out a better car for you, consider it a gift from me."
Sienna was about to say she could buy one herself, but Sylvia placed a hand on her shoulder: "Ah! Don’t refuse me! I feel terrible when I can’t do something I want!"
Such assertiveness with gift-giving.
Sienna couldn’t help but laugh, so she accepted it graciously: "Then, I thank you in advance, Auntie."
She pondered finding an opportunity to return the favor to Sylvia in the future.
.
On the third floor, the elevator opened, and Sylvia stepped out first with Sienna following behind. Watching Sylvia, who was in her fifties but had the posture and slenderness of a woman in her twenties, Sienna admired her greatly.
"What are you daydreaming about? Catch up!" Sylvia called back. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Sienna caught up, smiling: "Auntie, how do you keep in shape?"
"Diet control, cardio, weights, and yoga," Sylvia replied, glancing at Sienna’s physique and smiling, "If you have time, exercise is good not only for maintaining your figure but also for relieving stress."
Sienna knew all of this, but she just didn’t enjoy exercising.
Looking at Sylvia, she wondered if, once she was over fifty and had turned into a plump, dowdy, oily woman, Simon would still love her.
Simon liked exercising, controlled his diet, and was particular about lifestyle, so he surely wouldn’t allow himself to become a fat old man. By sixty, he would probably still be fit. If she became a slob while he remained attractive, they would look mismatched going out together.
Hmm, she’d have to influence him to become a slob too, then it’d be fine!
As Sienna was lost in thought, Sylvia suddenly exclaimed, "Oh my, why are you picking so much meat!"
With that, she returned the pork belly, beef, and lamb from Sienna’s basket to the shelves, and grabbed a few boxes of okra and chives instead: "Jules doesn’t like eating meat. Don’t keep cooking it for him; too much leads to weight gain..."
Sienna pursed her lips in resignation and obediently followed behind Sylvia.
Ultimately, they chose a basketful of vegetables, fruits, and yogurt to check out.
At the cashier, Sylvia insisted on paying, so Sienna let her.
After settling the bill, they carried two bags of groceries towards the elevator. Thinking about having just vegetables for dinner after a long day, Sienna felt weak in the knees.
.
Entering the house, Sienna placed the bags of groceries on the hallway cabinet, quickly grabbed slippers for Sylvia, then changed her own shoes and invited Sylvia to sit, while she took the groceries into the kitchen.
The vegetables they bought were organic and didn’t require soaking to remove pesticides. Sienna took out half of the vegetables to wash, planning to let them dry and then change clothes and see what Simon was up to.
She had just unpacked half of the vegetables when the kitchen sliding door was opened, and she felt arms wrap around her waist, a man’s face rested at her neck: "Go change clothes, I’ll wash the vegetables."
Sienna turned to give him a kiss and continued unpacking the vegetable boxes: "It’s fine. I’ll finish washing the vegetables first, then go change clothes."
Looking into the living room where Sylvia was sitting, she added, "Hey, your mom’s in the living room, go pour her a glass of water, I’ll handle this."
"Alright." Simon gave her a peck on the cheek, "I’ll come help later."
The sliding door was closed again.
As Sienna washed the vegetables, she glanced at the living room at the older and younger.
Sylvia and Simon sat in the living room, seemingly discussing something, and soon they were both gone.
Sienna turned around, dried the last vegetable, wiped her hands, intending to change into home clothes in the closet room before cooking dinner. Passing by the study, she saw the mother and son absorbed at the computer, unsure of what they were watching.
She decided not to disturb them, changed her clothes, and returned to the kitchen to cook.
Today’s dinner comprised four vegetable dishes and a fish soup, which were quickly prepared.
Sienna went to the study to call the two to dinner, but they were still pointing at the computer, delaying quite a while before coming out.
Sienna had already set the table. Looking at the four vegetable dishes, she had no appetite. She thought, thankfully she wasn’t living with Sylvia, or she’d never get to eat hearty meals at home.
.
"This stir-fried monkey head mushroom is pretty good!" Simon said, scooping a spoonful of it into Sienna’s bowl, "Here, have some more."
Sylvia elegantly sipped the sea bass soup, glancing at the mushroom dish loaded with oil and soy sauce: "It’s too oily, Jules, eat less." With that, she placed a bunch of chives in Simon’s bowl.
Simon looked at the green chives in his bowl, swallowed hard, and then glanced at Sienna sitting beside him.
He had been eating light for over a month, feeling almost saturated. Eating chives again tonight was a real challenge.
Without a word, Simon pushed the chives to the side, picked up a piece of sauteed okra, and asked Sienna with a grin, "Candy, do you want to get a new car? I just checked online, the Alfa Gloria and Maserati’s Ghibli and Quattroporte are quite nice and suitable for you."
So that’s what the mother and son were doing at the computer earlier, shopping for her new car.
Remembering it was a gift from Sylvia, Sienna didn’t decline, but still politely asked, "Will it be expensive?"
"No, only about a million or so."
"Which one looks good?"
Sylvia, who hadn’t said anything, set down her soup spoon, elegantly wiped the corners of her lips with a napkin, placed her elbows on the table, intertwining her fingers gracefully, and said, "The Alfa is a sports car, more sporty; the two Maseratis are sleek sedans. I think Maserati’s Ghibli looks nice and suits a girl your age."
Sienna didn’t hesitate, responding promptly, "Alright, I’ll go with Auntie’s choice, the Ghibli!"
Sylvia immediately instructed Simon: "Order a red top-of-the-line one then, and let me know the on-road price later. I’ll transfer the money to you."
Sienna promptly expressed her gratitude to Sylvia.
Sylvia was quite pleased with Sienna’s straightforward and appreciative attitude, and after discussing the car purchase, she inquired about the wedding plans.
