Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 166: No Need to Suffer
He unceremoniously picked her up, his large hand holding her cheek, eyes lowered to meet her in the moonlight, with eyes so wet they shone crystal bright.
He frowned, with reproach yet care in his voice, "Is it every time we meet now, you have to make me watch you cry?"
Scarlett Shaw wiped her tears, retorting quietly, "Who knew you would show up suddenly."
Julian Ford raised an eyebrow, "This street is only five minutes’ walk from your house. Isn’t it natural for me to come see you and appear here?"
He held her hand, fingers interlocked, as the two of them slowly walked toward Scarlett Shaw’s house, side by side.
The path was short, yet both walked at a leisurely pace.
Usually when alone, Scarlett was always the talkative one, but today she was like a wilting eggplant, unable to muster any interest.
Instead, Julian spoke first, "Head hanging all the way, could it be that you feel you can’t help at all and are starting to self-blame?"
Scarlett: "..."
She raised her gaze, her eyes still red from crying, and glared at him, "So what if I am!"
Julian stopped walking and leaned down to kiss her lips, saying gently, "If you are, then put those thoughts away. You’re neither Doraemon nor Superman; not being able to do something is pretty normal. If you could solve everything, I’d be just for show as your boyfriend."
He looked at her, his gaze calm, exuding a reassuring strength.
"Besides, I usually don’t see you with high demands for yourself. Thinking of these things now, isn’t it just unnecessary hardship?"
Scarlett was taken aback by Julian’s words, "But your family..."
"Every family has its difficult stories; mine is no exception."
Seeing her worry, Julian held her hand tighter.
"The core conflict between my parents and me doesn’t lie with you. Anything that goes against their wishes will become a trigger, so there’s no need for you to blame yourself for everything."
Julian’s words were partly comforting, but indeed true.
Between him and his parents, even if it wasn’t Scarlett, one day there would be another trigger.
Like his illness.
As Scarlett listened to Julian’s incredibly calm and logical words, not only did it not make her feel relieved, it made her feel even heavier and uncomfortable.
She always felt that his rationality made her angry yet reassured her, but what she never thought was—
Behind his reason, what was lost.
Returning to Scarlett’s home, Julian lowered his head, seeing her eye rims reddened again, tears glistening in her eyes, stubbornly holding back from falling.
He suddenly recalled the first time they were in the car, seeing her tears after they finished.
At that time, she was sitting on him, hot tears dripping onto his neck. This scene of crying for love not only didn’t stir any emotional waves in him, but rather made him feel annoyed, wanting to cruelly torture her foolish form.
But now, even if her eyes were just slightly red, his heart would feel a gripping pain.
Julian sighed gently, wanting to help the person before him wipe away the tears. Scarlett suddenly clasped his wrist.
Her soft fingertips lightly slid to that faint scar hard to discern, she looked up at him with watery eyes and said:
"I asked you before how this scar was caused. Back then, you said my relationship with you didn’t have the authority to discuss the past. So, how about now?"
Julian gazed at her intensely, "Now you do."
Scarlett: "Then tell me."
Julian refused her without hesitation, "There’s no need."
Scarlett was exasperated, tears streaming down, "Can’t you just give me a chance to understand you better!"
"Not everyone wishes to be understood." Julian pulled a tissue from the table, wiping away her tears, "If I make you sad, I can wipe your tears countless times, but if your tears are meant to threaten me, there won’t be a next time."
Scarlett shuddered, instinctively stepping back.
Julian’s hand wiping her tears lingered between the two, his expression still faint as he watched her, not angry at her avoidance, casually tossing the wet tissue into the bin.
Scarlett bit her lower lip, her eyes truly revealing the embarrassment and guilt after her thoughts were exposed.
It’s said love can cloud one’s mind.
Yet her boyfriend, even if she can feel his love, reality and their interactions tell her, he remains the most logical and calm, never losing control over emotions.
Julian, perhaps, wouldn’t break up with her because of any external factors.
Like family pressure, others’ opinions, or trade-offs of interests.
However, if she unfittingly stepped into his forbidden defense, he surely would shut her out.
Surely would.
After coming to this conclusion, Scarlett withdrew her gaze from Julian’s indifferent face, turning and returned to her room alone.
Everyone has scars and pains they don’t want touched. Relying on close relationships to recklessly delve into someone’s past isn’t a wise move.
She understood this principle. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Yet love, this thing, has always been a double-edged sword.
The stronger one’s feelings for someone, the more their private desires grow. She’s never been quite considerate; if she could, she wished to peel open Julian’s entire heart, uncover all his unwilling past, so she could firmly grasp his vulnerabilities, even if it meant threatening, to keep him eternally by her side, belonging only to her.
And her little scheme, just at the sprouting stage, was seen through by him.
Undetectable.
All night long, Scarlett’s bedroom door remained closed.
She didn’t lock it, nor did Julian enter.
...
Leo was confined in the detention center for nearly ten days, Mr. Spencer’s side hadn’t produced results from their investigation into Scarlett.
Mr. Spencer wasn’t stupid; it was obvious that Julian Ford had a hand in it.
Mr. Spencer didn’t dare act rashly.
However, the kind mother spoiled the delinquent son.
While Mr. Spencer was still pondering what to do, Mrs. Spencer couldn’t sit still and directly found Freya Pierce.
"Your eldest son’s current girlfriend used to date your younger son; this woman probably has ulterior motives."
Mrs. Spencer feigned concern for Freya.
Back then, Freya was having afternoon tea at a high-end restaurant, hearing this, she paused, finding it rather amusing, "What are you saying?"
Mrs. Spencer was stunned too.
Freya’s surprised and doubtful expression truly didn’t seem fake. She felt perhaps she had spoken too much, but since she was here, thinking of all Leo’s suffering, she couldn’t help but continue:
"Mrs. Ford, I’m really left with no choice, which is why I came to seek your help."
"Regarding the incident where my son Liam hurt your son Julian’s girlfriend, I will definitely lead Liam to apologize in person. But, I beg you, could you please appeal to your Julian to go easy on Liam?"
