Overpowered Awakening: I Became Invincible With A Broken Talent-Chapter 136: Deadlight District (27)
As if to flex its ability to manipulate reality, the Aurax clicked its fingers.
The entire hall wove into black mist, and a split second later, Marlon found himself standing in a frozen land that stretched across a vast distance.
Snow drifted down from a dull, colorless sky, falling in slow, heavy flakes. The ground beneath his feet was solid ice, cracked and uneven.
Tall icicles protruded from the ground in several areas, giving the region a strange and oppressive feel.
Fortunately, he had Adamant Body, an A-rank physical defense skill that greatly reduced the chilling intensity of the atmosphere and made it bearable.
An ugly expression appeared on his face as he finished observing his surroundings.
"You love the view?"
The Aurax appeared a few meters in front of him and asked with a playful smirk on its face.
Marlon scoffed.
"Your hallucination is top-notch, but only when compared to humans. I am sure you are pretty weak when compared to other Aurax."
As he said this, the playful expression on the Aurax’s face turned sour at once.
And a smile appeared on Marlon’s face.
All Index-2 Aurax were the same after all. They had weak egos, and even though they often appeared composed, they possessed very little control over their emotions. This flaw served as a clear weakness, the same one he had exploited with the previous Aurax he killed.
And thankfully, this one was no different.
"Since you did not reply, then I guess I am telling the truth."
He continued. He went on for quite some time, making his words sharper and more intense with every second that passed. As a result, the Aurax’s expression grew uglier and uglier.
Then suddenly, it started to laugh heartily, placing one hand on its head as it bellowed even louder.
"Huh."
Why was it laughing? Marlon thought.
"Look at me, getting pissed off by the words of a measly youngling from a race I could easily wipe out in the near future."
It said amidst its laughter.
"You must be the funniest among your race to be able to make such a joke with a straight face."
Marlon remained silent.
Had his plan failed?
If that was the case, then defeating this boss would be harder than he had initially thought.
He let the boss continue with its speech, which mostly consisted of bragging about the superiority of its race.
It kept reminding Marlon that he could be slain by its mere thoughts alone.
And from what he had seen so far, Marlon believed it.
The Aurax were strong.
Stronger than humans.
The mini-boss he had fought earlier, which was still very young and ranked at Index-1, had possessed strength comparable to high-level C-rank hunters, maybe even newly ascended B-rank hunters.
The last boss he faced could definitely be ranked at A-rank.
And they were only Index-1 and Index-2 respectively.
He could only imagine how strong the higher ranks would be.
If an Index-3 were to face him with his current strength, he would give up immediately.
And if an Index-4 showed up now...
"I can’t even think about it..."
He shook his head to clear those thoughts and returned his attention to the boss, who was still rambling endlessly about its power.
It seemed to take particular pride in its hallucination abilities.
"Why are you quiet? Have you been cornered so easily? Come on, speak up. Tell me more of those jokes."
It challenged him with a provoking expression on its face.
Looking at it, with its height and exaggerated expression, Marlon felt like he was staring at a teenager trying to act tough, and he involuntarily let out a chuckle.
"Why are you laughing?" the Aurax questioned.
"Because I know that with all those big talks about power and superiority, you are still a virgin."
And that was it.
The last straw.
Virginity.
The Aurax’s face dulled in an instant, losing all color as rage overtook its features.
At that moment, Marlon felt the atmosphere around him change.
The coldness of the region surged manifold, and even with Adamant Body, he felt it. The biting chill pierced deep into his bones.
"How dare you!"
The Aurax’s monotonous voice echoed across the frozen region.
The air grew more violent. Snow and wind surged toward Marlon’s position at an alarming rate, forcing him to raise his arms in front of his face to keep the snow from blinding him.
"How dare a human utter such a vile and disgusting word to a being like me!"
It continued.
The atmosphere shifted violently, clearly reflecting its rage.
The icicles rooted across the region were uprooted all at once.
They floated into the air.
And with a mere thought from the Aurax, they shot toward him in the hundreds.
The sharp whooshing sounds they produced as they tore through the air resembled rolling thunder in the midst of a violent snowstorm.
"Shit..."
Marlon utilized all his strength and agility and moved his body rapidly to evade the incoming icicles.
Who would have thought that the mere mention of virginity would enrage the Aurax to such a degree?
Was the word truly that disgusting to them?
He pushed the thought aside and focused entirely on evasion.
"I will teach you a lesson for mocking my ancestors!"
The Aurax barked.
Completely enraged.
The ice covering the ground within a radius of a hundred meters rose into the air and began forming into sharp spears.
"How dare a human insult my ancestors! You must pay!!"
The newly formed ice spears, numbering in the thousands, serpented through the air and converged toward a single target.
Marlon instantly shifted into a defensive state.
He leapt from place to place, somersaulted through the air, rolled across the ground, and even performed cartwheels to evade the relentless barrage.
But the ice spears kept coming.
Worse still, they could alter their trajectory midair, making the situation far more intense.
Only the spears that shattered upon hitting the ground became useless. The rest continued pursuing him like guided missiles.
The boss remained in a state of rampage, and although its voice was distorted by the raging snowstorm and whistling spears, it could still be heard clearly.
At this point, Marlon felt he had provoked it far too much.
He heard the boss shouting about him insulting its ancestors, which struck him as strange, considering he had only called it a virgin.
"Does virgin have a different meaning for them?"
This was the only plausible explanation.
He quickly made a mental note to never use such words against an Aurax again unless he was absolutely confident he could kill it.
While his thoughts raced, his body continued executing a series of precise and controlled movements.
The barrage of ice spears lasted for nearly ten minutes, and after a grueling effort, he finally deflected the last one.
He turned to look at the boss, which now stood some distance away from him.
It was fuming, resembling an enraged teenager, its face dark with fury.
Their eyes met, and the Aurax’s rage surged even further.
It raised its hands, and all the snow suspended in the air abruptly halted before beginning to fuse together.
The fusion process continued for a considerable amount of time, and eventually, a massive block of ice was formed.
Marlon could swear it resembled the heavy explosives used in movies, only far larger.
While he was still examining it, the boss waved its hand, and at a speed he could not comprehend, the massive glacial aerial strike shot straight toward him.
It was unbelievably fast.
Marlon did not even bother trying to escape.
"Mirror Clone Unit."
He summoned ten clones at once, and with a mental command, all of them launched themselves toward the incoming attack.
They flexed their upper bodies, completely disregarding their own safety, and unleashed Divine Punch on the massive ice formation.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion erupted, and a violent gust of wind swept across the frozen land.
The massive block of ice shattered instantly, scattering into countless fragments that fell to the ground with dull thuds.
However, even though the clones succeeded in dispersing the attack, six of the ten vanished on the spot.
The remaining four had their health and stamina reduced by more than half.
The outcome shocked Marlon.
He inhaled deeply, fully acknowledging the boss’s terrifying strength.
On the other hand, the boss’s anger only intensified as it had not anticipated the appearance of clones.
Seeing that Marlon was still alive only fueled its frustration.
Aurax did not handle frustration and rage very well.
The killing intent Marlon felt at that moment was almost tangible, sending a chill down his spine.
And before he could react, the environment shifted once more.
The boss was becoming increasingly aggressive with its hallucination abilities.
But at this point...
Could it truly still be called a hallucination?
