Chapter 1174: Chapter 1176: Fenfen Stays With Him (Part 2)

He slowly turned his head and looked at the tall tombstone, with layers of steps on both sides of the tombstone, all planted with colorful flowers.

A paradise on earth.

His gaze lingered on the portrait on the tombstone.

In the photo, the woman wore a floral qipao, with a slight smile at the corner of her mouth, so stunningly beautiful that she seemed unreal.

Ji Anning thought, her beauty must not just be about her appearance, because Mr. Charles and her grandfather, two successful men in society, couldn’t possibly be attracted to mere appearances.

As time ticked by, Ji Anning constantly worried about Charles.

After about four or five more seconds, she walked over and took his hand, "Uncle, let’s go first."

Only then did Ji Chicheng tear his gaze away from the tombstone, took a step forward, and bent down.

He reached out and pulled a weed from the pot of light purple flowers to the right of the tombstone, tucking it into his palm.

Then he glanced at the tombstone again, lowered his head, remained silent for about three seconds, and then turned away with Ji Anning.

Ji Anning glanced at Ji Chicheng’s hand clasping the weed, the greenish tip showing; he wasn’t holding it tightly, as if treating it gently.

...

"Mr. Charles took a large amount of sleeping pills. Luckily, a heavy rain came, preventing him from sleeping too deeply. Fortunately, you arrived just in time; it hasn’t been long since he took the pills."

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, both Ji Anning and Ji Chicheng sighed in relief.

They held each other’s hands tightly, as if saying, thank goodness, he’s alright.

His stomach was pumped.

After more than ten hours, Charles woke up.

He opened his eyes weakly, his face pale with no trace of color, his eyes moving.

’Clatter’

Suddenly, a sound of plastic colliding came from under the bed. He looked down in the direction of the sound.

A chubby little figure with fluffy hair tied in two horns was wearing pink polka-dotted pajamas. Her rosy little face was chubby.

Her tiny hands were struggling to separate two connected building blocks.

Sunlight streamed through the glass, into the room, warming the little girl.

In his heart, there arose a warmth he hadn’t felt for a long, long time, from exactly when he couldn’t remember.

Charles looked at the little girl, and the corners of his mouth slightly turned up, "Fenfen."

The little girl heard his feeble call, looked up in surprise, and when she saw that he had opened his eyes, she scrambled to her feet, ran to the bedside, climbed onto the bed, hunched over, and hugged Charles’ head.

"Grandpa."

The three or four-year-old child emitted a milky fragrance; Charles lifted his hand, embracing the little girl.

Soft and chubby.

Life seemed full of meaning once again.

"Look at that grandfather and granddaughter, how close they are."

Ji Anning and Ji Chicheng hid at the door, watching inside at Fenfen hugging Charles’ neck, that affectionate scene.

It felt especially warm.

Ji Anning genuinely sighed.

Ji Chicheng looked at her disdainfully, "Ji Anning, have you forgotten how he treated you before?"

He looked as if he were scolding her for being unambitious.

Ji Anning nodded, "Ah, if you hadn’t reminded me, I would have forgotten. I almost became someone’s stepmother."

Now thinking back to the relationship she and Charles declared to the public, almost stepping into the palace of marriage, it’s truly absurd, utterly absurd.

She spoke without bothering to look at the gradually darkening handsome face of Ji Chicheng.
