Chapter 208: Chapter 202: Still Lost in the End (Part 4)

"This beauty seems unfamiliar." The rich young man stared at Ji Anning, a roguish smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

After giving Ji Anning a quick glance, he brazenly sized up her face, making no effort to hide his interest.

Ji Anning: "..."

Did he know every woman in the world on sight?

"My name is Rong Feifan. Let’s be friends," the rich young man walked up to Ji Anning and extended his right hand, polite yet gentlemanly.

This demeanor was starkly different from his earlier arrogance and haughty attitude.

"Anning, ignore this kind of rich brat," Jin Yuanyuan whispered in Ji Anning’s ear.

Hearing Jin Yuanyuan speak beside Ji Anning, Rong Feifan curled his lips into a smile again, "Beauty, it’s clear you and this lady here aren’t from the same social class. Would you mind adding me on WeChat?"

As he spoke, he pulled out his phone.

"I do mind." Ji Anning shot Rong Feifan a cold look, didn’t look at him again, and continued walking toward the sidewalk.

"Then let’s take a photo as a memento," he said.

Rong Feifan suddenly dashed in front of Ji Anning, the camera lens of his phone aimed at her as he pressed the shutter repeatedly.

Ji Anning frowned and glared at him in annoyance, "What are you doing? Delete the photos."

"Sorry, they are already saved in my phone, they belong to me now," Rong Feifan shrugged nonchalantly at Ji Anning, enjoying the several photos he had just taken.

Ignoring Ji Anning’s displeasure, he looked at the photos, then raised his phone and grinned at her, "Beautiful, you look gorgeous in photos under any circumstances."

The tone was teasing, somewhat frivolous.

Ji Anning was very put off and felt that getting him to delete the photos was probably impossible. She no longer wasted her breath, set her face in a cold expression, and walked past him.

Suddenly, her phone rang. She looked down, fumbled it out, and seeing the caller ID, her brow furrowed slightly.

Then she answered and held it to her ear, "Jingfeng."

She couldn’t remember how long it had been since they had last spoken on the phone; it seemed they hadn’t since their mother went to Garden Island.

What was he calling for now?

"Anning, mom has been bedridden for a week now and can’t get up,"

Ji Jingfeng’s voice was tense, trembling severely.

Ji Anning was startled, the phone almost slipping from her palm. She asked anxiously, "What happened?"

"Pneumonia, Grandfather has been keeping it from us all this time," Ji Jingfeng said bitterly, "He only sent a trainee doctor who was following Dr. Zhang there; he wants mom to die on Garden Island."

How could this be? Ji Anning’s mind immediately conjured the image of the kind-eyed grandfather of these past few months, compassionate even to refugees who were strangers to him. How could he bear to let mother die on Garden Island?

Ji Anning couldn’t believe it, shaking her head she said, "Jingfeng, that’s impossible, Grandfather definitely doesn’t know about mom’s condition, or you must be mistaken."

Seeing her disbelieve him, Ji Jingfeng raised his voice on the other end, "Ji Anning, my dad died because of my mom’s death. The day Grandfather sent her to Garden Island, he never planned to let her come back. Can’t you see that?"

His emotions were intense, every word loaded with hatred, "Grandfather’s heart only has room for Uncle; whether I exist or not doesn’t matter to him. If I hadn’t overheard Aunt Wu on the phone just now, we wouldn’t have known mom had died."

My dad died because of my mom’s death...

Ji Anning was shocked upon hearing this statement; she had always thought that Grandfather disapproved of her mom because of her mother’s background.
