Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 72 Reluctant Cohabitation (Part 17)
She had been in this family for over a decade and had gotten used to the exclusion and cold stares from the true masters of the house, becoming impervious to them.
Except for that arrogant uncle, Ji Chicheng.
Yet she knew that Yang Yufang had still not gotten used to it, despite having been in the family for several more years than her.
It might have been because she was too lacking in ambition and ideals.
In this family, she existed like a walking corpse.
"Anning, your great aunt isn’t wrong, don’t come back this late in the future," he said.
The old man appeared at the staircase entrance unexpectedly.
The sudden voice startled both Ji Anning and Yang Yufang as they turned their gazes toward him, Ji Zhengdao.
Dressed in a dark grey nightgown with his hands clasped behind his back, the old man’s turbid yet shrewd eyes slightly drooped as he watched Ji Anning and Yang Yufang.
His presence alone commanded authority.
"Grandfather, I understand," Anning replied softly, then lowered her head.
She did not feel upset or lost by this; after all, she had no freedom at night whatsoever in the past.
Ji Zhengdao’s commanding gaze shifted from Ji Anning to Yang Yufang.
"Dad," Yang Yufang greeted Ji Zhengdao with a smile.
The old man didn’t respond, maintaining his authoritative demeanor that imperceptibly pressured everyone around him.
The atmosphere became oppressive and abnormal.
Just then, Lin Yanqin, who had been sitting on the sofa, stood up and approached them, looking at her father, Ji Zhengdao, "Dad, why haven’t you slept yet? I heard you coughing this morning, and Dr. Zhang had repeatedly advised you to sleep early."
She wore a conservatively styled orange nightgown.
This was a rule in this household, the maximum exposure allowed for nightgowns worn in public was sleeveless.
Ji Zhengdao’s expression visibly softened as he watched Lin Yanqin approach.
Seeing this, Lin Yanqin felt pleased inside, turned around and called out to Ji Xiangting and Ji Ruoqian on the sofa, "Xiangting, Ruoqian, fetch some water for grandfather."
Upon hearing this, Ji Xiangting and Ji Ruoqian hurried to comply.
Ji Xiangting brought a cup of warm water from the dining room, filled to seven-tenths, and walked up the stairs.
Originally, they all thought to wait until the old man spoke before leaving.
But as more people gathered on the staircase, Ji Anning felt that since Lin Yanqin’s family was currying favor with the old man, she didn’t need to witness it.
So she decided to greet them and return to her room.
"Grandfather, I will go upstairs now," Anning greeted Ji Zhengdao indifferently and then lowered her head and ascended the stairs.
"Anning, excuse me," suddenly, Ji Xiangting’s footsteps followed her, shouting from behind.
Anning quickly stepped aside, her hand inadvertently sweeping lightly through the air.
’Smack’
Coincidentally, it struck the glass cup in Ji Xiangting’s hand.
The transparent glass cup fell to the ground and shattered upon impact.
"Oh no..."
Ji Xiangting was so startled she stepped backward, nearly tumbling down the stairs but fortunately managed to grasp the stair railing in time.
Such a low-level scheme, Anning thought, was foolish, especially right under grandfather’s watchful eye.
"Ji Anning, how could you be so careless? Didn’t you know the water my elder sister was carrying was for grandfather?" Without waiting for Ji Xiangting to speak, Ji Ruoqian rushed up to reprimand Anning.
Ji Anning felt that the old man had witnessed everything and would make his judgment, so she kept her head down, not intending to explain.
(Good night, MUA...)
