Chapter 997: One Last Time

In an instant, Sonnenträger vanished from where he was standing, and even Loimos needed a few moments to realise where he had gone to, and it was most simple- As one might say, desperate times call for desperate measures, and without the undead being able to do much of anything to stop his opponent, the golden hero used the first of his three drops imbued himself with ungodly swiftness, soaring through all layers of clouds in less than a second, flying all the way up to the bright sun far above.

Still enhanced with incredible speed, Sonnenträger placed both hands against the smouldering surface of the sun, somehow touching it as though it was purely solid, and used the second drop of gold at his disposal, who had thus become far more powerful than the one used to empower his speed.

The way he used it was simple, transforming the solar star he was touching, converting all of its mass and power into gold, manifesting a golden sun, which he pushed, sending it crashing down right toward the undead, this action, which should be a monumental task was accomplished with such ease and simplicity, the sun soaring down alongside the hero toward Loimos, who turned into light in an attempt to make some distance, but blast radius of such an attack was simply far too large.

Everything was engulfed into a gigantic blast of gold, Loimos having no other choice but to consume a great amount of his rot constructs to not be vaporised completely by the blast- In the next instant followed the explosion, the memory they had been in shattered, instead finding themselves in a wasteland of magma and lava.

The presence of Sonnenträger had become brighter and stronger than ever before, which only a single drop of gold in his possession, that last ounce of inner energy had become far more terrific than anything else before, the feats accomplished with the previous two could be compared to child’s play compared to what could be done with this one, the hero was not certain how to use it, at first, he thought to deliver a singular, powerful blast of gold to Loimos, pouring everything into one attack.

But one would have to be foolish to trust that a being who had gone through the explosion of a sun made of nothing but the destructive gold that tore apart all would be undone by a single attack, Loimos certainly had more means to survive a single strike.

So instead, the last drop was used to augment the body- This reinforcement was temporary and once it ran out, Sonnenträger would be helpless, and he might just die on the spot as the energy that also served as his lifeblood was extinguished.

The time given to him would have to be enough to put an end to the pure undead once and for all.

’What a tragedy, I will probably die regardless of whether I win this fight or not... Loimos might be defeated, but the undead empire will keep on existing... I guess I’ll have to hold on to life for long enough to recover some energy, else I truly won’t be deserving of my title’

Pushing off against the very air, Sonnenträger blasted forward with enough power to instantly shatter the memory they found themselves in, erupting with festering death, Loimos sprung forth as well.

The hero delivered a Golden Glow to the serpent’s chest, shattering another memory in the process, the great beast seemed to endure much damage as death force was reduced to nothing, but it soon recovered, Loimos burning through his rot constructs to resist and recover from the subsequent Golden Glows as well.

Each of Sonnenträger’s movements destroyed the memories they were sent to, the scenery constantly changing, as he moved and attacked without stop, gold flashing every second as punches and kicks imbued with Golden Glow rained upon the undead from all directions, throwing him around like a ragdoll.

But even then, Loimos was constantly recovering and resisting, but he was no longer trying to attack, that would be a waste of his ressources, his best bet was to wait for the hero to exhaust himself, to run out- For the final drop to vanish.

Entire facilities were emptied in mere seconds, even the ones that had been kept in reserve had to be used, until the only one with anything still anything within it was the largest one.

The serpent was throwing through the air, the landscape around him changing multiple times until he crashed into a mountain that was swift to vanish as the memory broke.

There was only one thing left for Loimos to do- He prepared to use everything that was left, and even abandon the powerful serpentine form to manifest the Lithitree, fully empowered and even burning some of the festering death that he would have left might just be enough to keep the golden one at bay for a little while...

But before he could do this, power flowed into his body without him doing anything, festering death recovering like it did when he slew livings, and it was arriving en masse.

Like hundreds, if not thousands of livings were being sacrificed to him right at this instant.

This steady stream of additional power allowed Loimos to keep on resisting the golden onslaught for a while longer, enduring countless Golden Glows back to back...

Sonnenträger kept his cool even as he felt that the drop would soon run out, he kept on attacking without stopping, until only he felt that only a few mere seconds were left for him to defeat Loimos for good.

He steadied himself, soaring upward before diving right back down into an arc, facing the undead directly as the seconds were running out, mid-flight, he found himself entering a meditative state, pushing all thoughts of potential failure or loss out of his mind, pouring everything that was left into one last attack delivering at the last possible moment.

Everything seemed to pause, both combatants facing one another.

The serpentine transformation was discarded in exchange for power, Loimos manifesting as his armoured humanoid self once more, stomping the ground as he raised his guard, the Lithitree bursting out of the ground behind him, its incredible power focused entirely on helping Loimos for what was to come.

Sonnenträger’s final punch, final Golden Glow was unlike anything that had come before- It was the culmination of everything that had come before, as it turns out, Golden Glow was not the technique Loimos had believed that it was, it did not trigger a natural stack, it perfectly mimicked one.

For in that instant, a natural stack manifested alongside the usual effects of a Golden Glow...
