Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Both Mother and Daughter Cried

"What’s the surprise?" Chen Yang asked softly, inhaling Lin Jingyi’s alluring scent.

"You little rascal, you’ll find out tonight."

After giving Chen Yang a flirtatious glance, Lin Jingyi turned and walked toward the bathroom. "I’m going to take a shower, and then we’ll eat."

Watching her swaying back and her pert, round bottom, Chen Yang was filled with anticipation for the evening’s "surprise."

"Xin xin, didn’t you see your mother come home? You’re practically glued to your phone."

Passing the sofa, Lin Jingyi saw Lin Ruixin playing on her phone and couldn’t help but chide her. "And look how thoughtful your Brother Xiao Yang is. He’s already made dinner, yet you didn’t even think to help him."

"Mom, you don’t know anything," Lin Ruixin said, putting down her phone. Her face was flushed as she looked at Lin Jingyi. "Brother Xiao Yang spoils me. He wouldn’t let me help; he told me to just play on my phone and wait for you. Now, hurry up and take your shower! I’m starving."

"You little rascal..."

Hearing the change in Lin Ruixin’s attitude toward Chen Yang and seeing her rosy cheeks, Lin Jingyi couldn’t help but wonder. Could those two have gotten together while I was out?

Thinking of Chen Yang’s... size, she couldn’t help but worry about Lin Ruixin. The poor girl has never even had a boyfriend. Her body is so small and delicate... would she get hurt?

However, her doubts quickly vanished when she saw Lin Ruixin get up and jump around, completely fine. As a woman, she knew that a girl couldn’t possibly be jumping around like that after her first time.

Hmph. Even if they didn’t go all the way, they must have been getting handsy. Lin Jingyi narrowed her beautiful eyes, a hint of jealousy souring her thoughts. She just knew that little lecher Chen Yang couldn’t have resisted making a move on Lin Ruixin. Still, this might be for the best. At least I know his background. Xinxin will have someone to take care of her in the future, and I can keep them both by my side. When the time is right, it might even be possible to...

The sudden thought made Lin Jingyi’s body heat up with an overwhelming desire. Not daring to hesitate, she quickly entered the bathroom.

「A moment later.」

Fresh as a water lily emerging from the bath, Lin Jingyi appeared at the dining table. She wore a red nightgown that revealed her long, snow-white legs.

"Okay, Brother Xiao Yang, Mom’s here! Hurry up and tell us what the surprise is," Lin Ruixin urged, unable to wait any longer.

"What surprise?" Lin Jingyi asked, setting down her towel and looking at Chen Yang curiously.

"How about we talk after dinner?" Chen Yang asked while eating his rice. He was starving too.

"Okay."

"No way!"

The mother and daughter spoke in unison with completely opposite opinions.

Lin Jingyi glanced at Lin Ruixin, whose eyes were full of longing for the surprise, and cut in. "Before we get to the surprise, I have something to ask Brother Xiao Yang first."

With a huff, Lin Ruixin turned her head away and started stuffing her face.

"Auntie, what is it?" Chen Yang asked curiously.

"What were you and Aunt Ma up to this afternoon? Why weren’t you at the Conditioning Department?" Lin Jingyi looked at Chen Yang in confusion. "Also, how did you two offend that sleazeball Zhou Chun? The nurses at the hospital are all saying he reported you and Ma Xiaorong to the Director of the Medical Affairs Department, Li Yan."

"Zhou Chun said Director Li put the word out. When you two show up for work tomorrow, you’re to go straight to her office. She’s going to tear into you two and might even issue a hospital-wide notice of criticism."

As she spoke, Lin Jingyi began to worry. Although she was an attending physician at the hospital, her connections were no match for Zhou Chun’s and Li Yan’s.

"Ah, how could this happen? It’s Brother Xiao Yang’s first day of work!" Lin Ruixin was worried too. She cursed angrily, "That Zhou Chun, how can he be so nasty? Damn him!"

She wouldn’t allow anyone to bully her Brother Xiao Yang.

"Heh, so that’s what this is about." Chen Yang shook his head, looking completely unconcerned. "Auntie, don’t worry. Aunt Ma and I went to treat Xiao Huiyun. Zhou Chun just resorted to such despicable means because he wanted to sleep with Aunt Ma and couldn’t. He’s a nobody, not worth fearing."

"Ma Xiaorong took you to treat Xiao Huiyun? That woman can be so reckless." Hearing Xiao Huiyun’s name, Lin Jingyi’s expression changed completely. Xiao Huiyun was a big shot that not even their hospital director could afford to offend.

"Okay, okay, Auntie, don’t you worry. The surprise Xinxin has been waiting for is related to this." Seeing Lin Jingyi’s worried expression, Chen Yang decided not to wait any longer. He took out a check from his side and handed it to her.

With the confidence Xiao Huiyun had given him, Zhou Chun was just a jumping pest, a toad puffing itself up—nothing worth taking seriously.

"What’s this?" Lin Jingyi took the check, utterly bewildered. Lin Ruixin immediately ran to her side to get a look.

"Whoa!" Lin Ruixin exclaimed. "Mom, this is a check! Look at all these zeros... This is... oh my god, it’s a check for one million! That’s so much money..."

At that moment, Lin Ruixin was stunned. Growing up, a few thousand, or even ten thousand, had been a fortune to her. And now, here was a check for one million.

Lin Jingyi’s eyes were also filled with shock, but more than anything, she was worried. "Xiao Yang, where did you get this money?"

"Auntie, that’s my consultation fee for treating Xiao Huiyun," Chen Yang said, taking a bite of food. "I treated her condition, and she was so pleased she gave me one million as payment."

"Oh, Xiao Yang, you’ve really become something." Looking at Chen Yang’s calm demeanor, Lin Jingyi couldn’t help but picture his grandfather, the old divine doctor and his calm, unruffled air.

The resemblance was uncanny.

In that instant, her worries vanished. Now that Chen Yang had forged a connection with Xiao Huiyun, forget Zhou Chun—even Li Yan would have to tread carefully around him.

"From now on, Auntie will have to count on you at the hospital," Lin Jingyi said, feeling immensely gratified and filled with a surge of confidence because of Chen Yang.

"Haha, you got it, Auntie! From now on, this hospital will be our turf. No one will dare to make you angry," Chen Yang boasted, looking like a king surveying his domain.

Lin Ruixin’s eyes filled with adoration as she watched him. That was her Brother Xiao Yang. So amazing.

"Put the check somewhere safe. Don’t lose it," Lin Jingyi said, handing the check back to Chen Yang.

"Auntie, you keep it." Chen Yang waved his hand. "I don’t have anywhere to keep it. When you have time, you can deposit it. We’ll save up, and when we have enough, I’ll buy us a bigger house. We’ll move into a villa and live like kings."

Lin Ruixin was so overwhelmed with excitement that tears of joy streamed down her face.

Lin Jingyi, on the other hand, was so moved she started to cry.

After so many years since her divorce, the family finally had a pillar of support.

She decided that tonight, she would have to use all sorts of tricks to make Chen Yang feel very, very comfortable...
