Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 269- you’re fired
His series of actions was elegant and gentle, without any violent anger or hysterical shouting. This was always his style—kind and composed, except when it came to matters involving that woman.
However, as he smiled and uttered those harsh words, it was the most fatal blow to Anna. After all these years by his side, how could she not know? The colder he was, the more terrifying he became.
Fear of him, along with all the suppressed grievances and unwillingness, surged up all at once. Her eyes instantly filled with tears. She had always maintained an image of grace and nobility in front of everyone. Crying was never her style.
But now, she didn’t care about her image anymore. Being yanked by her collar like this, she shouted at him, no longer holding back.
"James, I admit it was me! But it’s all because of you!"
"If you hadn’t ignored me all these years, how could I have betrayed you? What do I lack compared to her? I can’t accept it, I can’t accept it—"
At this point, she pointed at Bonnie, shouting hysterically, tears splashing down her face, blurring her makeup. She looked utterly disheveled and pitiful in that moment.
The cold light in James’ eyes grew sharper, coupled with a cold, mocking smile. He leaned in closer to Anna, his face a mere inch from hers, and said slowly,
"You’re not better than her in any way, but... you are not the one I hold in my heart."
Around them, the staff gasped. The director had directly stated that Anna wasn’t the one in his heart, which indirectly confirmed that Bonnie was the one. It seemed that the director’s love was deeply hidden...
Anna’s pupils widened, then gradually dimmed. His words struck her deeply. No matter how beautiful, charming, or seductive she was, if she wasn’t the one he cared about, everything else was in vain.
"Anna, you’re fired."
James coldly tossed those words at her, then without mercy, shoved her into the chair and turned to leave. Halfway down the hallway, he turned back with a sneer,
"By the way, I forgot to tell you—your career in journalism is over."
If it weren’t for the Boston and Danny families’ longstanding ties in Malaysia, he would make sure she could never stand again in this world. For her, being ousted from the journalism field was the least of the punishments.
Meanwhile, Bonnie, having heard James say that Anna wasn’t the one in his heart, had already covered her mouth with tears streaming down her face as she rushed out of the studio. His deep affection and devotion overwhelmed her. How could she, Bonnie, deserve such love and care from him?
Just as Cynthia was about to follow her out, she received a phone call from Albert. He must have seen the news by now. She picked up the call, her voice full of frustration. His steady, powerful voice came through,
"Wait for me, I’ll be there soon."
No comforting words, just "I’ll be there soon," was all it took for her restless heart to calm down. He always knew exactly when she needed him the most.
As she briefed him on the situation, he spoke grimly,
"These corrupt officials... let me take care of them."
Meanwhile, Bonnie, rushing out of the studio, never expected to see a crowd gathered outside the television station. The low-income individuals, whom she had previously visited and assured that the truth would be reported, were now furious. As soon as they saw her, they angrily shouted,
"Bonnie, you liar! You and LTC TV are all a bunch of frauds!"
She had once promised them she would bring the truth to light, but now, with everything falling apart, how could they not be enraged?
Bonnie desperately tried to calm herself, raising her voice to explain, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Please listen to me— 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
But their anger was so overwhelming that her words were drowned out. If it weren’t for the security guards rushing over to intervene, the crowd would have already torn her apart.
In their rage, one of the people raised a water bottle and hurled it at her without hesitation. She never expected things to escalate to this level, and for a moment, she stood frozen, watching the bottle fly toward her.
In the blink of an eye, a sharp, commanding voice rang out from behind her:
"What do you think you’re doing? Stop right now!"
Then, before she could even react, a powerful force surged toward her. Her stiff body was pulled into a broad, familiar chest, and the water bottle hit him square in the shoulder. Water splashed everywhere, soaking him completely, while she remained unharmed, shielded by his embrace.
Hearing the dull thud as the bottle hit him, Bonnie felt a sharp pang in her heart, as if the blow had landed on her too. She lifted her head from his chest, looking up at the drenched, silent James, her voice breaking as she called his name,
"James—"
He said nothing, his face dark with fury. He gripped her head tightly, pressing it back into his chest, and with a protective, yet chilling, air, he began pushing through the crowd. The intense anger radiating off of him made Bonnie shiver. In all the years she had known him, she had never seen him this furious.
The crowd, already in an uproar, only grew more agitated as they saw James protect Bonnie. Some of the women in the crowd even began to cry out in despair, their voices filled with grief and anger.
"You claim to stand up for us, but aren’t you just their lapdogs?" one woman shouted, her voice cracking with emotion.
"You deceitful liars, you’re in league with them!" another yelled.
As if the verbal insults weren’t enough to express their frustration, the crowd began hurling objects at them. Bottles, eggs, and various small objects flew through the air, landing with loud crashes all around.
Bonnie, still in James’ protective embrace, could only scream in fear as she saw the projectiles hurtling toward them. James, however, remained silent and composed, using his own body to shield her from the barrage of attacks. Bonnie pressed her face into his chest, her tears soaking into his suit.
As they continued to walk quickly, James pushed through the chaos, blocking the incoming objects with his hands, his stance firm and unwavering. The crowd was relentless, and the situation seemed like it might overwhelm them. Just as things were escalating further, the screech of a car’s brakes sliced through the noise. Albert’s sleek silver car screeched to a halt just outside the chaotic crowd, and Cynthia’s anxious voice rang out from the vehicle,
"James! Bonnie! Get in the car!"
James’ eyes darkened as he scanned the crowd, and suddenly, he raised his voice, his commanding tone cutting through the chaos:
"Everyone, calm down now!"
Despite his disheveled appearance—his expensive suit soaked with water and debris—his presence was imposing. The sheer power of his voice was enough to silence the crowd. The commotion halted instantly, and the people around them froze. James took a quick glance over the angry faces of the crowd and addressed them firmly,
"We at the television station will provide you with a reasonable explanation!"
