Plunder-Chapter 196 I Return Your Identity to You
Qiao En, in a daze, was embraced by Zhou Jin’an. She opened her bleary eyes and pushed her hands against Zhou Jin’an’s chest.
"Stop it, I want to sleep some more."
Last night, with worries weighing on her mind, she had slept restlessly.
She had only fallen into a deep sleep at daybreak.
She tried to push Zhou Jin’an away, but he held her even tighter.
He buried his head in the nape of Qiao En’s neck, and hot tears slipped into her collarbone.
Qiao En’s sleepiness gradually faded, and she realized that the Zhou Jin’an embracing her was shuddering.
"I’m sorry, I caused the death of our child."
His voice choked, unbearably sour to hear.
"You already know."
Qiao En’s eyelids drooped, and the pain she had suppressed at the bottom of her heart surged again.
The pain of losing a child was something she couldn’t mention to anyone.
She could only wipe her tears secretly when memories haunted her in the middle of the night.
"Mom has already told me, En’en, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!"
Zhou Jin’an lifted his head, his eyes were bloodshot red.
"Don’t blame yourself, don’t be too hard on yourself."
Zhou Jin’an struggled to suppress his grief, "I will definitely investigate thoroughly and ensure our child did not die in vain."
Qiao En murmured faintly.
Downstairs, Sister Rong had already prepared breakfast.
"Young master, breakfast is ready. I made your favorite little wontons, come down and try them!"
Sister Rong called out warmly.
Zhou Jin’an went downstairs, but he did not head to the dining table.
"I’m off to the company."
Saying so, he pulled open the door and walked out.
Sister Rong was stunned; she had just placed the freshly boiled wontons on the table.
"What’s with the young master? Last night he specifically asked for little wontons this morning, and I’ve been busy all morning. Why did he leave without eating?"
Sister Rong muttered softly.
In the bedroom, Qiao En was still curled up in bed.
They had agreed not to be sad, but whenever she thought of that innocent child, her tears couldn’t be stopped.
"Madam, I made your favorite taro sponge cake. It’s just steamed and piping hot; please have a taste!"
The door was ajar as Sister Rong stood outside with the breakfast.
Qiao En had no appetite at all.
"Sister Rong, I’ll eat later."
Qiao En said with her back to Sister Rong, her voice nasally.
Sister Rong immediately sensed something was wrong, "Madam, what’s the matter? Are you feeling unwell? Shall I ask Dr. Liu to come over?"
"No need, I’ll be fine after some sleep."
Qiao En declined.
Sister Rong carried the breakfast downstairs worriedly, and quickly sent a message to Zhou Jin’an.
"Young master, the lady seems to be feeling unwell..."
In the president’s office of Nanchen Group.
Zhou Jin’an leaned back in the leather seat, his handsome face clouded over as though a storm was about to break.
He had received the message from Sister Rong, and without a second thought, he knew that Qiao En was crying again.
At that moment, besides him, Cheng Lu was also present.
"Search, no matter the cost, we must find that van driver."
After Qiao En’s accident, Zhou Jin’an had commanded Cheng Lu to conduct a thorough investigation.
All leads were ruled out, except for that van driver who seemed to have vanished from the earth.
"Director Zhou, our people have been on this for eight months, and there’s still no trace of him. I reckon he is definitely in hiding."
Cheng Lu hadn’t finished speaking when Zhou Jin’an’s voice suddenly raised several decibels.
"If he’s hiding, there will come a time when he shows his face. We must see him alive or dead. If manpower is insufficient, send more people; if funds are short, I will allocate more. In any case, we must find him."
Zhou Jin’an issued an absolute command, and Cheng Lu could only comply.
"Yes, Director Zhou, I’ll oversee it now."
With his departure, the vast office was left with only Zhou Jin’an alone.
He painfully closed his eyes.
The unborn child, their flesh and blood, he had just found out about it, but had already lost it.
He blamed himself, criticizing his own lack of care for Qiao En and the child.
He felt even more hatred, hating those people’s brutality and heartlessness.
"Director Zhou, Miss An is here, she’s insisting on seeing you!"
The call came from the receptionist.
"No,"
Zhou Jin’an sharply hung up the phone.
However, when he got off work, just as the Maybach was pulling out of the underground parking lot, An Kexin appeared out of nowhere, standing in front of the car with her arms spread wide.
"Jin’an, help me."
She looked haggard and worn, lacking her usual glamour.
She was naturally tall, wearing an ill-fitting floral dress, her makeup-free face pale, exuding a sickly air.
Inside the Maybach, Zhou Jin’an’s expression was ice-cold; he leaned back in his seat, staring at An Kexin with those frost-like eyes.
The windows were tightly shut, Zhou Jin’an showing no intention of acknowledging An Kexin.
"Jin’an, please, can you help me? You’re the only one who can help me now."
An Kexin approached, pounding at the window.
"What should we do, Director Zhou?"
Cheng Lu awaited Zhou Jin’an’s instructions.
The An family had severed ties with An Kexin; she had nowhere to go, becoming a destitute stray.
Rejected by her family, she depended on Zhou Jin’an.
"How can I help you?"
Zhou Jin’an slowly lowered the window a crack, a chilly smile playing at his lips.
"Jin’an, my dad listens to you the most. Could you please plead with him for me? I realize my mistake and I won’t dare do it again."
Zhou Jin’an remained unmoved, mockingly watching An Kexin.
"Isn’t your name now Qiao En? What business do you have with the An family?"
"I... I’m not Qiao En, I’m Kexin, I’m Kexin!"
An Kexin was desperate to defend herself.
Zhou Jin’an remained silent.
Cheng Lu looked at An Kexin and said, "Secretary Qiao, since you wanted to become Qiao En, then be Qiao En properly! The lady of the house is waiting for Director Zhou to come home for dinner."
"Let’s go,"
Zhou Jin’an said in a muffled voice.
Cheng Lu raised the window, quickly started the engine, and the Maybach sped past An Kexin.
Realizing what happened, she ran after it.
"Jin’an, I was wrong, can I give you back this identity?"
But it was all too late.
The Maybach quickly left her behind, and she fell to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.
"I changed into this for you; why can’t you like me even a little, just a little bit? What am I supposed to do? I’ve lost everything now."
Just as An Kexin was sobbing the hardest, Qiao De appeared.
He had been rejected by An Corporation and was frantically searching for An Kexin.
"Didn’t you promise you could get me into An Corporation? You lying cheat!"
In a fit of rage, Qiao De grabbed An Kexin by the hair, his furious fists striking her relentlessly.
She couldn’t resist, curling up on the ground with her head in her arms.
"Stop hitting me, please stop?"
She wailed, begging for mercy.
But it was futile.
Qiao De was driven to fury, nearly losing his mind.
All his resentment was vented on An Kexin.
The more she cried, the harder his punches fell.
Luckily, a passerby saw this and immediately reported it to the police.
As Qiao De was beating An Kexin, the police arrived.
They arrested him and took him back to a place where he had previously been detained. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Qiao En was unaware of Qiao De’s brutal attack on An Kexin.
But as soon as he was detained, Qiao’s mother came to her for help.
