Plunder-Chapter 208 Another Director Zhou
The next day, Zhou Jin’an went to the company early.
After breakfast, Qiao En started sending out her resume on her computer.
Xu Cong went to school, Auntie Jiang chatted with Sister Rong for a while, and then prepared some fruit for Qiao En before bringing it into the bedroom.
"Yayun, are you looking for a job?"
Auntie Jiang asked in surprise.
Qiao En didn’t look up, "Mhm."
Auntie Jiang placed the fruit down and didn’t leave, instead standing behind Qiao En.
"Yayun, didn’t you have a job before?"
Auntie Jiang asked in confusion.
Qiao En scrolled through the mouse, seriously looking at the positions available to apply for.
It wasn’t the hiring season, so there were very few companies with recruitment needs.
"I resigned."
"You were doing well, why resign?"
Auntie Jiang was even more puzzled.
"I married Jin’an; I can’t be his secretary anymore, that would negatively impact him."
Qiao En ate a grape.
"How does both of you working at the same company negatively impact him? Besides, isn’t the company Zhou’s? He’s the boss, what’s wrong with his wife working there?"
"Mom."
Qiao En cut off Auntie Jiang’s words.
"Precisely because Jin’an is the boss, I need to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Jin’an and I have the same approach to matters, we keep work and personal life separate, so, of course, it should be me who leaves."
Auntie Jiang pondered for a moment and then sighed lightly.
"All right, my daughter is capable, so finding a job should be easy. I fully support your desire to work. Although we’re women, we must be self-reliant and not overly dependent on men."
Qiao En was heartened to hear Auntie Jiang’s understanding.
She stood up, hugging Auntie Jiang around the neck.
"Mom, I definitely won’t let you down."
Auntie Jiang chatted with Qiao En for a bit more, but, not wanting to disturb her, quickly left the room.
Qiao En spent the whole morning on the job site, but there were very few positions suitable for her.
She chose a few small companies she had never heard of to send her resume to, since she wouldn’t run into acquaintances at those places. Additionally, though small, these companies had good prospects for development.
That evening, when Zhou Jin’an returned from work, Qiao En was still hunched over the computer sending out resumes.
"How’s it going? Didn’t find anything suitable?"
Zhou Jin’an took off his tie, and as he unbuttoned his shirt, he asked.
Qiao En sighed deeply, "Finding a matching job is really hard!"
Zhou Jin’an’s lips curled into a smile, "How is it hard? If you want, the position of Nanchen’s Chief Secretary is still yours."
"I want to, but I also don’t want to."
Qiao En’s brows were knotted into a worm shape.
Zhou Jin’an pulled up a chair and sat down; he took the mouse from Qiao En’s hand and scrolled through the information on the recruitment website.
"Why are you only looking at these small companies?"
Zhou Jin’an asked curiously.
As Nanchen’s Chief Secretary, Qiao En’s job history would definitely attract attention on the job site.
"I’m looking for a change of environment."
Qiao En made an excuse, but some things were left unsaid, though Zhou Jin’an understood.
He kissed her forehead, "I’m sorry to put you through this. Do you want my help with the arrangements?"
"No."
Qiao En decisively refused.
"I can’t always rely on you; finding a job might be hard, but it’s not impossible."
Zhou Jin’an was aware of Qiao En’s stubborn independence.
"How about going to a branch office?"
Zhou Jin’an suggested.
Qiao En refused again, "No, the people at the branch will soon find out about my relationship with you. Didn’t we agree from the start? To keep work and personal separate."
That was Qiao En’s principle.
In any matter, she wouldn’t allow her principles to be compromised.
"Young Master, Young Madam, dinner is ready."
From downstairs came Sister Rong’s loud voice.
Qiao En snapped her laptop shut, "I’m so hungry, let’s go eat."
After dinner, Zhou Jin’an still had work to do, so he went to the study.
Qiao En returned to the bedroom and continued sending out resumes.
Surprisingly, a cultural media company sent her an interview offer.
Qiao En was secretly pleased and wanted to tell Zhou Jin’an immediately.
But the moment she stood up, she held back.
She was no longer a child and didn’t need to share everything in a hurry.
The interview was scheduled for ten o’clock the next morning.
Qiao En didn’t tell anyone.
The other party had arranged the interview location in an office building.
She was interviewed by an HR representative, who was intelligent and graceful, and they had a long conversation.
"Miss Xu, we think you are very suitable and, if you are willing, we hope you can join our team."
Soon after, they offered her a position.
Qiao En hadn’t expected the interview to be so easy.
"Thank you, I’m willing."
After signing the labor contract, HR picked up a call. As Qiao En was about to leave, HR called her back.
"Miss Xu, our boss would like to meet you."
Qiao En nodded and followed HR inside.
She knocked three times at the door, and a deep male voice came from behind the brown wooden door: "Come in."
"Go ahead!"
HR said, stepping aside.
Qiao En turned the handle and pushed the door open.
But she never expected that the person standing inside would be Zhou Chucheng.
"Why is it you?"
Qiao En asked, puzzled.
Zhou Chucheng, who was fiddling with a camera lens, asked without looking up: "Why can’t it be me?"
"Aren’t you a director?"
Qiao En asked again.
Zhou Chucheng looked up at Qiao En in surprise, "Then can’t I also be a CEO?"
The atmosphere suddenly got awkward.
Qiao En stood there, at a loss for words.
"Be here by eight o’clock tomorrow morning, you’re coming with me to an award event," Zhou Chucheng said.
She had applied for the position of CEO’s assistant, and attending such events with the CEO was part of the assistant’s duties.
Yet, Qiao En felt uncomfortable.
She stood there in silence, unmoving. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Zhou Chucheng glanced up at her, "Any problems?"
Qiao En didn’t say a word; she regretted that she had not looked up the CEO’s basic information before signing the labor contract.
"If there’s no problem, you can now go back to prepare or take a tour of the company to get familiar with the business; it’s all up to you," Zhou Chucheng said coldly.
"Alright."
Qiao En responded indifferently and turned to leave, pulling the door shut behind her.
Leaving the office building, her mood was somewhat complicated.
On the one hand, she had found her ideal job. Although the media company was small in size, its management was very regular, and both the position match and the compensation were quite good; she didn’t want to give that up easily.
On the other hand, her boss was Zhou Chucheng, the third young master of the Zhou family, Zhou Jin’an’s half-brother.
In fact, her impression of Zhou Chucheng wasn’t bad.
He was her lifesaver, and she was filled with gratitude.
But he was on bad terms with Zhou Jin’an, and as Zhou Jin’an’s wife, she was Zhou Chucheng’s sister-in-law in name.
The thought of serving as an assistant to her own brother-in-law was somewhat awkward.
Qiao En was torn inside for a while.
At dinner time, she was still struggling.
Zhou Jin’an could tell at a glance, "Don’t rush the job search. If all else fails, you can go to a branch office, or I can start a company just for you."
He didn’t like to see Qiao En worried.
"No need, I’ve already found a job," she declined again.
"Which company?"
Surprise flashed in Zhou Jin’an’s eyes, but Qiao En didn’t want to say, "A small company."
"It’s okay if it’s a small company. The work isn’t complex, and the intensity isn’t too high. En’en, remember that whatever difficulties or troubles you encounter, I am your strong support."
"Mhm."
Qiao En agreed.
There’s a saying, "Make the best of it."
Qiao En quickly got mentally prepared; since she was determined to keep her professional and personal lives separate, her relationship with Zhou Chucheng should not affect her work.
The next day.
Dressed in a beige suit, Qiao En appeared in front of Zhou Chucheng at exactly eight o’clock. He gave her a cursory glance.
"Very professional."
The Zhou Chucheng now was completely different from the one she had known before.
Like Zhou Jin’an, his demeanor was cold and focused when working.
The casual literary air that he had about him before had vanished without a trace.
Qiao En followed Zhou Chucheng into the car; throughout the trip, he kept his eyes fixed on the tablet in his hands.
The atmosphere in the car was very oppressive, and no one spoke.
Soon, the car arrived at the award ceremony venue.
Zhou Chucheng got out of the car as soon as he opened the door, and Qiao En quickly followed.
As a director, Zhou Chucheng was just a rising star in Rong City.
He was attending this event because one of his documentaries had won an award.
But as soon as the event began, Zhou Chucheng received a phone call and abruptly stood up to leave.
"You’ll go receive the award later."
"Ah, Director Zhou!"
Before Qiao En could say anything, Zhou Chucheng was already walking away quickly.
Then, Qiao En heard the host announcing Zhou Chucheng’s name.
She had no choice but to go up and accept the award with a stiff upper lip.
But what she had never anticipated was that the moment she received the award was captured on camera.
Later, that image made its way to Zhou Jin’an.
