Plunder-Chapter 214: Pregnant
For dinner, Sister Rong steamed some hairy crab.
Zhou Jin’an had just eaten half when his phone rang, so he wiped his hands and headed to the study.
Qiao En picked up the other half, about to eat it, when suddenly a fishy smell rushed into her nostrils.
She immediately put the half-crab back where it came from.
"Young Madam, I specially prepared Bird’s Nest Porridge with fish maw for you. You’re working too hard," Sister Rong said. "You really need to nourish yourself well."
Zhou Jin’an had instructed Sister Rong to pay close attention to Qiao En’s nutrition.
Saying so, Sister Rong brought over the Bird’s Nest Porridge. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Feeling sluggish and having a poor appetite, Qiao En found herself even less inclined to eat as the table was mainly filled with seafood.
"Thank you, Sister Rong."
Qiao En took the porridge from Sister Rong, but after just one sip, she immediately covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom.
"What’s the matter with the Young Madam? Did I not make it right?"
Sister Rong asked doubtfully.
Auntie Jiang laughed, "How could it be? It might be that she’s pregnant."
"Really? That’s wonderful! The Young Master would be overjoyed if he knew," Sister Rong responded with glee.
While Sister Rong and Auntie Jiang were jubilant, Qiao En was vomiting in the restroom.
The familiar sensation churned up from her stomach bit by bit.
After vomiting for a while, she finally felt much better.
When she came out of the restroom after a while, Sister Rong had replaced her meal with plain porridge.
"Young Madam, are you possibly pregnant?" Sister Rong asked with a broad smile.
Qiao En grimaced, "How could that be? It’s just that the air conditioning in the office was too low today, and I caught a bit of a cold. You really shouldn’t spread rumors."
She flatly denied it.
Sister Rong wasn’t one to talk recklessly, and she naturally wouldn’t speak further about the matter Qiao En denied.
Auntie Jiang, experienced and Qiao En’s birth mother, understood to respect Qiao En and didn’t say much either, only reminding her to take care of her health.
After eating the plain porridge, she felt much better.
"I still have some work to be busy with, I’ll go back to the bedroom first."
Qiao En found an excuse and returned to the bedroom.
However, lying in bed, she couldn’t sleep at all.
She was nervously counting the days her period was late.
After losing that child, she hadn’t stopped hoping for another chance to be a mother.
Yet, the departure of that child also instilled fear in her, the fear that departure could become final.
She curled up in a ball, clutching her abdomen.
"What’s wrong? Sister Rong said you barely ate at dinner, was the food not to your taste?"
Zhou Jin’an had finished his work and came upstairs as well.
Seeing Qiao En curled up in bed, he walked over and placed his hand on her shoulder.
She covered her mouth and yawned widely, "I just feel a bit tired, I’ll feel much better after some sleep."
Zhou Jin’an sighed deeply, "If you’re so tired, maybe you shouldn’t go at all."
He began to persuade her again not to go to work.
Qiao En pulled the blanket over her head, "Zhou Jin’an, you are the roadblock to my progress. Keep enticing me to be useless, and I’ll divorce you."
She threatened muffledly from under the blanket.
Zhou Jin’an immediately surrendered, "What’s that? I can’t hear you clearly. Are you urging me to hurry and take a shower? Alright, I’m going now."
In response to Qiao En’s threats, Zhou Jin’an chose to feign ignorance.
He quickly entered the bathroom, and soon the sound of flowing water filled the room.
About ten minutes later, Zhou Jin’an came out of the shower, his upper body bare and only a towel tied around his waist.
"Are you asleep?"
He leaned down and kissed Qiao En on the cheek.
She pretended to be asleep, unmoving.
Zhou Jin’an, pitying Qiao En’s hardship, tiptoed into bed and wrapped his arms around her from behind, encircling her in his embrace.
"Goodnight, wife."
He whispered gently in her ear.
She wasn’t asleep; Zhou Jin’an’s warm breath lingered around her ear, and behind her, his heart thumped powerfully.
Qiao En’s heart also raced on.
Very early the next day,
Zhou Jin’an left for the office, and Qiao En purposefully lingered in bed a little while longer, texting Zhou Chucheng to ask for a two-hour leave.
Once she got ready, she went downstairs.
Sister Rong had breakfast ready, "Young Madam, I made some light food today, please have a bite."
Unable to refuse, Qiao En sat down and ate breakfast.
A quarter-hour earlier, she had scheduled an appointment online with a gynecologist.
Whether she was pregnant or not, she wanted to go to the hospital to confirm.
Registration, blood draw, waiting.
In less than half an hour, she had gotten the test results.
She was pregnant.
It was good news.
Yet, Qiao En didn’t inform Zhou Jin’an immediately.
She really liked her current job and wanted to prove her worth through her work.
The life of a wealthy lady was one of lavish idleness, but she didn’t enjoy it.
That day, Qiao En was somewhat distracted at work.
On one hand, she felt it was necessary to tell Zhou Jin’an, as her husband, he had the right to know that he was about to become a father.
Yet, on the other hand, she wanted to be selfish for once, to live the way she wanted.
Torn like this, it soon was time to clock off.
"Can you leave work on time today?"
Zhou Jin’an suddenly called Qiao En.
She was surprised.
"Yes, I’m already in the elevator."
Just after Qiao En finished speaking, the call ended.
She thought it was a poor signal in the elevator, but when she stepped out, she found Zhou Jin’an waiting for her at the entrance.
"How did you come here?"
A smile spread across Qiao En’s face, and her steps quickened.
"Slow down, no need to rush."
Zhou Jin’an watched her with a smile, the car door already open. He stood gracefully to one side, one hand on the car door, the other on Qiao En’s shoulder.
"Tonight, let’s dine out. I’ve booked a restaurant, guaranteed to surprise you."
Zhou Jin’an teased.
"Is today some special day?"
Qiao En was puzzled.
Zhou Jin’an got into the car, taking Qiao En’s hand.
"Today marks 1314 days since we’ve been together, so we need to celebrate properly."
Time seemed to have legs, and you wouldn’t realize how far you’ve come without looking back.
"Time really flies, doesn’t it?"
Qiao En remarked earnestly.
"Indeed it does! But it’s good that neither of us gave up, and we finally became ’us.’ Once we have our baby, we’ll be even happier."
His eyes twinkled with warmth, yet Qiao En avoided his gaze.
Zhou Jin’an longed for a child of his own, and now, there was one in Qiao En’s womb.
She hesitated, wondering whether to tell Zhou Jin’an.
"Tonight, I will give you a gift."
"What gift?"
Zhou Jin’an couldn’t wait to find out.
Qiao En played mysterious, "I’ll tell you once we’re home. But don’t be impatient, haste won’t hasten things."
She imagined that if Zhou Jin’an knew about the child, he would be overjoyed.
The candlelit dinner was very cozy, each moment brimming with happiness and warmth.
"Wife, I love you."
When the anniversary cake was brought over, Zhou Jin’an again chose to kneel on one knee.
This time, he had prepared a nine-carat blue diamond ring.
"Why buy such a big one?"
Seeing such an extravagant ring, Qiao En laughed.
Seeing her laugh, Zhou Jin’an’s face also lit up with smiles.
"You don’t have one like this, so I got you one. It’s the only one in the world, truly unique."
Zhou Jin’an was always improving at creating romance.
"Thank you."
Just as Qiao En accepted the gift, Zhou Jin’an again turned his thoughts to the gift Qiao En had mentioned.
"Wife, what’s the gift you’re giving me?"
He was a man who could keep his composure.
But in front of Qiao En, he shed all his armor, adopting the aura of a big boy.
Qiao En was about to tell him, but she held back.
"I’ll tell you when we get home."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Jin’an checked his watch, "Then shall we go home now?"
However, Qiao En couldn’t have anticipated that when she and Zhou Jin’an returned home, there would be a huge surprise waiting for them to sign for.
