Plunder-Chapter 243: Send Her Away
The next morning, Zhou Jin’an skipped breakfast and went straight to the police station.
It started raining in the early morning. The Maybach was parked outside the police station. Zhou Jin’an leaned back in the back seat. Cheng Lu turned to look at him and asked, "Director Zhou, would you like a cup of coffee?"
Zhou Jin’an’s face was steely, his eyes deep, with heavy dark circles from lack of sleep, yet his eyes were exceptionally bright.
"No need."
He declined.
Cheng Lu glanced at the time; it was just seven o’clock.
"Then I’ll go buy you some breakfast."
Seeing that Zhou Jin’an didn’t object, Cheng Lu got out of the car and left.
The atmosphere inside the car was very oppressive. Zhou Jin’an’s gaze remained fixed unblinkingly on the front door of the police station.
He was waiting for someone.
Waiting for that person to tell him the truth.
Cheng Lu quickly returned, carrying several breakfasts.
"Director Zhou, please have some food. I inquired, and Director Huang has a meeting this morning and will only come after eight."
"You eat; don’t mind me."
Zhou Jin’an’s voice was very cold.
He couldn’t eat or drink until this matter was clarified.
Zhou Jin’an didn’t eat, and Cheng Lu also lost her appetite.
She placed the breakfast on the co-driver’s seat and got out of the car again, heading towards the guardroom.
The drizzle continued, dampening the ground.
Rain also drizzled in Zhou Jin’an’s heart, a damp with aching pain.
At quarter past eight, Director Huang’s dedicated car arrived at the police station.
"Director Zhou, you came and didn’t even tell me?"
Director Huang got out of the car and immediately came over.
"Asked about it; you had a meeting this morning. Waiting a bit doesn’t matter."
"Let’s go inside; it’s damp outside because of the rain."
He instructed the driver to speak to the gatehouse before Cheng Lu drove the Maybach into the courtyard.
Zhou Jin’an followed Director Huang into his office.
"We were able to make a breakthrough this time, thanks to the clues you provided."
Director Huang personally poured tea for Zhou Jin’an.
He took it but didn’t drink a sip.
"Speak, I’m listening."
Zhou Jin’an was concise.
Director Huang didn’t beat around the bush; after all, this situation was distressing for anyone.
He sat back down, his expression becoming very grave.
"He’s a tough nut to crack and would rather die than confess. As you know, we can’t use torture here. If he doesn’t want to speak, we can’t force him. Luckily, Assistant Cheng provided us with his girlfriend’s contact. That girl has a high level of ideological awareness."
"We called her, and she came over quickly and was very cooperative. They met in private, and I’m not sure what they talked about. However, after the girl left, Ding Hao suddenly decided to confess."
Zhou Jin’an’s expression darkened slightly, "Is that so? What did he say?"
Nobody noticed that his fist involuntarily clenched tightly, and veins throbbed on his forehead.
"He said, he did this just to get revenge on you."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Jin’an’s fist slammed heavily on the coffee table.
"I want to see him."
Zhou Jin’an muttered.
Director Huang breathed a sigh of relief, "Tomorrow then; today there are still some things we need his cooperation to investigate. As for you, take a moment to stabilize your emotions. I know you’re distressed; it’s tough for anyone in this situation. But, things have happened, and he must face legal punishment."
"That was my child, a human life."
Zhou Jin’an said angrily.
Director Huang nodded; he was sympathetic but also helpless.
"I understand your feelings."
He stood up, walked over to Zhou Jin’an, and patted him on the shoulder.
No amount of consolation could now sweep away the pain in Zhou Jin’an’s heart.
Ding Hao’s impulsive action had killed the unborn child and almost cost Qiao En her life.
If possible, he would have wanted Ding Hao to pay with his life.
But now, he couldn’t afford to be impulsive; he still had his lover to care for and family to protect.
"Notify me immediately if there’s any progress."
With that, Zhou Jin’an stood up and quickly walked outside.
Once in the car, Cheng Lu asked, "Director Zhou, are we heading to the office?"
Zhou Jin’an responded with a light "Hmm."
The car quickly merged into the traffic, and Zhou Jin’an suddenly remembered Director Huang mentioning Lin Youyou.
"Arrange for Lin Youyou to come out; I want to see her."
"Okay."
Cheng Lu immediately called Lin Youyou and asked for her address, then the Maybach drove toward Lin Youyou’s residence.
By the time they arrived, Lin Youyou had already come downstairs.
She looked fragile and helpless, standing in the drizzling rain, holding an umbrella in one hand and embracing the wall with the other.
For a moment, Zhou Jin’an felt that Lin Youyou seemed to have a shadow of Qiao En about her.
But it was only for a moment.
She turned, her waterfall-like long hair cascading over her shoulders.
"Director Zhou, Assistant Cheng."
Lin Youyou greeted them proactively, though her expression looked somewhat forlorn.
"Thank you for all you’ve done. Ask for anything you wish, as long as I can fulfill it, I will agree to everything."
It was all thanks to Lin Youyou that Ding Hao had been dealt with.
Zhou Jin’an was a man who kept his promises, having originally promised Lin Youyou, now was the time to fulfill that promise.
Slowly, Lin Youyou raised her eyes to Zhou Jin’an and then spoke, "I just want to leave this place as soon as possible, the sooner the better."
"Where to?"
Zhou Jin’an asked.
Lin Youyou looked somewhat bewildered, "Anywhere is fine."
She seemed to be not quite herself.
Zhou Jin’an didn’t ask further and pulled out a checkbook and pen from his pocket.
With a few quick strokes, he signed off a seven-figure sum. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Here."
He handed the check to Lin Youyou.
But she stepped back, waving her hands insistently, "Director Zhou, you have already paid me, I can’t take your money."
Zhou Jin’an was quite surprised; he hadn’t expected Lin Youyou to refuse.
"This is a reward you deserve."
"It’s too much, I can’t accept it."
Lin Youyou refused again.
Unwilling to force her, Zhou Jin’an didn’t insist.
"Think about which country you want to go to, then tell Assistant Cheng, he will take care of all the arrangements, you don’t have to worry about anything."
"Thanks, Director Zhou."
Lin Youyou nodded.
Zhou Jin’an gave her a deep look, the Maybach’s window rolled down, and the car roared out of the residential complex.
He looked back through the rearview mirror, and Lin Youyou was still standing there.
Rumors had once circulated in the company that Lin Youyou harbored a secret love for Zhou Jin’an.
Whether the rumors were true or false, Zhou Jin’an was unable to tell, and he never paid attention to these rumors.
In his heart, apart from Qiao En, no other woman made a difference.
"Director Zhou, I feel like Miss Lin might be troubled by something."
Cheng Lu expressed his suspicion.
Zhou Jin’an remained silent.
Bound by his position, he naturally wouldn’t pry.
"Take care of her emigration, don’t shortchange her, do everything according to her request."
"Yes, Director Zhou."
Cheng Lu responded.
However, as soon as they returned to the office, Lin Youyou sent Cheng Lu a message.
"Assistant Cheng, I’ve decided, I’m going to Singapore."
"Director Zhou, Miss Lin sent a message, she has made up her mind, she is going to Singapore."
Cheng Lu immediately reported this to Zhou Jin’an.
"Handle everything according to her wishes, contact the Singapore office; once Lin Youyou arrives, give her the position of deputy manager, and pay her as per the director’s salary."
Zhou Jin’an was a man who distinguished clearly between rewards and punishments; giving money had been refused by Lin Youyou, so he compensated her in another way.
"Okay."
Cheng Lu proceeded accordingly.
All tasks were expedited; by the afternoon, the Singapore office had replied that Lin Youyou could assume her position anytime.
When Cheng Lu conveyed the news to Lin Youyou, she still requested to leave as soon as possible.
But no one knew why she was so anxious to leave.
The plane ticket was booked by herself, for the very next evening.
Her accommodation in Singapore was arranged, and someone would meet her at the airport.
Everything was well arranged; she was going alone, yet there was nothing to worry about.
But, unexpectedly, before she left, she arranged to meet Qiao En.
