Plunder-Chapter 261 The Killer is Caught
"Director Zhou, how do you view the fact that your assistant has committed murder?"
"Cheng Assistant’s deliberate murder incident, what negative impact will it have on Nanchen Group?"
"Director Zhou, would you still employ a murderer as your assistant in the future?"
...
Separated by the car window, Zhou Jin’an coldly watched everything outside.
"Director Zhou, we can’t enter the underground parking lot."
The driver turned and said.
Zhou Jin’an’s face turned ashen.
Qiao En placed her hand on the back of Zhou Jin’an’s hand, "It’s okay, I’ll handle this."
As she spoke, she reached to pull the car door open.
Zhou Jin’an hastily stopped her, "En’en, you’re pregnant!"
With the messy crowd outside, Qiao En being pregnant could lead to any unexpected incident, and he couldn’t bear to think about it.
"Don’t you trust my capabilities?"
She asked with a smirk.
Then, the car door opened, and Qiao En appeared in front of the reporters, calm and composed.
Those people, holding cameras, crazily snapped photos towards Qiao En’s face.
"If anyone has questions, let’s move to the company lobby. There’s more space there, and we will provide seats. Director Zhou and I will patiently answer all your queries. We also have some good news to announce to everyone."
Qiao En was poised and fearless.
Zhou Jin’an also got out of the car and stayed close behind her.
"Mrs. Zhou, what are your thoughts about the murder committed by Director Zhou’s assistant?"
Just then, an inappropriate voice rang out.
Qiao En knew someone was deliberately stirring up trouble.
But she was undeterred.
She smiled and said, "Didn’t some media claim I was shot in Australia? Now, look at me. Do I appear injured?"
Qiao En spread her arms, neither humble nor arrogant.
The crowd quieted down, and Qiao En gestured for them to follow with a "please" sign.
"You all must have been waiting here for a long time and have many questions. Let’s move to the lobby."
She looped her arm through Zhou Jin’an’s, and they slowly walked towards the lobby.
The venue there was swiftly arranged, and the reporters settled into their seats quickly.
Qiao En stood at the front of the crowd.
Her gentle yet compelling gaze swept across their faces, a serene smile on her lips.
"Thank you all for your concern regarding Assistant Cheng. Here, Director Zhou and I will answer the questions you just posed on behalf of Nanchen."
Qiao En handed the microphone to Zhou Jin’an.
"Regarding the first question, my answer is no. Cheng Lu is my assistant and my brother. I understand his character well; committing murder is not something he would do."
"Regarding the second question, my answer is I don’t mind. Nanchen has grown and become stronger, and Assistant Cheng has contributed to that. If his unfortunate situation causes a bit of financial loss to the company, that’s not a problem."
"As for the third question, what I want to say is that the doors of Nanchen will always be open to Cheng Lu. If any employee of Nanchen makes a mistake, so long as they admit and correct their error, they will always be part of the Nanchen family."
Before Zhou Jin’an could finish speaking, thunderous applause had erupted from below.
"Well said!"
Staff members from Nanchen cheered from not far away.
Zhou Jin’an bowed to everyone.
"The development of this man is not solely my effort, Zhou Jin’an, but the combined struggle of every person at Nanchen. Cheng Lu is a part of this big family. He has not given up on himself, and we are certainly not giving up on him. I believe he will be exonerated soon, and I hope the media will be lenient with their words, respecting the facts and reporting objectively."
After Zhou Jin’an finished speaking, the reporters’ eyes sparkled with admiration.
"Additionally, we have some good news to share with everyone."
Zhou Jin’an looked towards Qiao En, signaling her to announce the news.
All eyes turned to Qiao En.
"The case involving Assistant Cheng has attracted widespread attention, and we are very thankful for your concern. The police are fully investigating, and although we cannot disclose the details of the case’s progress, we can responsibly tell you that Assistant Cheng did not commit murder. The police will release an official response shortly, so please do not believe or spread rumors!"
Various murmurs began to rise from below.
Just then, Zhou Jin’an’s phone rang, Director Huang was calling again.
"Director Zhou, rest assured, we have caught the criminal; it was not Assistant Cheng who committed the crime."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Jin’an was overjoyed.
"Really? We’ll be right there."
"The criminal has been caught, Assistant Cheng has not committed murder."
He immediately announced this news.
No sooner had Zhou Jin’an spoken than a reporter had already rushed to post this news online.
A minute later, An Jinhua saw this news.
His brows furrowed instantly, and he immediately dialed Xu Mei’s phone.
"What’s going on? Didn’t you say that the cleanup was handled well? Why has he been caught?"
Xu Mei was shocked.
"That shouldn’t be possible; I had him hide in the countryside where nobody should be able to find him," she said.
An Jinhua was furious, "Just watch the news yourself."
He hung up the phone with a snap.
A few minutes later, Xu Mei called back.
"President An, this was my oversight. I will immediately investigate to find out where the problem occurred," she said.
"There’s no need to investigate. Pack your things and leave as soon as possible."
Although An Jinhua was the mastermind behind the scenes, it was Xu Mei who had handled everything.
Xu Mei hesitated, "President An, rest assured, I will take full responsibility for this matter and will not cause any trouble for you. I’m arranging my current work right now."
After hanging up the phone, Xu Mei did not flee but began dealing with the matters she was responsible for.
An Jinhua was extremely annoyed.
Xu Mei was his right-hand man, very effective in handling affairs.
If Xu Mei were to be caught, would the flames reach him?
His eyes darkened for a moment before he made a phone call.
"Eliminate someone for me."
At the PR firm, Xu Mei quickly handed over the affairs she was responsible for.
Even after her departure, the company would continue to operate normally.
After settling these matters, she went to the warehouse.
Many of An Jinhua’s dirty deeds were facilitated by her.
A lot of items were stored there, necessitating immediate destruction just in case.
She immediately drove over.
As she was squatting on the ground, destroying important documents, a man wearing a mask suddenly burst in.
The man was tall and muscular and immediately aimed a gun at Xu Mei’s forehead.
"Big brother, do you recognize me? If it’s money you want, just name your price," she said.
Xu Mei, seasoned in the underworld, instantly understood what was happening.
The location of the warehouse was known only to her and An Jinhua. She had just arrived, and this man followed close behind, which could only mean he was sent by An Jinhua.
The man pressed the gun against her head, "I’m here for your life!"
Xu Mei laughed, arms crossed, showing no fear.
Being imprisoned, she wouldn’t die but would be locked up for over a decade.
Now, being shot and killed would just mean the end of all troubles.
"President An sent you, didn’t he?"
She glanced sideways at the man.
The man remained silent.
"Today’s fate for me is tomorrow’s for you," said Xu Mei.
No sooner had she finished her words than the man pulled the trigger.
The gun silencer muffled the sound but still let out a soft thud.
Subsequently, Xu Mei slumped weakly to the ground.
The man kicked Xu Mei, then immediately called An Jinhua.
"President An, the job is done," he reported.
An Jinhua finally took a long breath of relief.
"Burn the place down," he ordered.
The man stood up and quickly walked outside.
He had prepared gasoline in the car, took the large pot, and walked back inside, spreading gasoline everywhere.
He was just about to ignite it when the sound of police sirens came from afar.
In his panic, he threw the lit lighter away.
Instantly, the warehouse was engulfed in flames.
Director Huang and a group of police officers arrived as the warehouse was blazing fiercely.
"Director Huang, there’s someone inside," someone reported.
Some had already rushed in.
"Save the people first, then put out the fire," ordered Director Huang.
Soon, the police officers charged in.
Shortly after, Xu Mei was rescued.
"Quick, to the hospital!"
She had been shot in the forehead, but the bullet missed its lethal mark, and she was still breathing. However, the fire had scorched her skin, completely altering her appearance.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she was rushed into the operating room.
Five hours later, she was still alive when wheeled out of the operating room.
