Chapter 502 - 1 vs 3

The Taunt move seemed to be even more effective since Persian had previously countered Crobat's Supersonic.

Crobat's blood-red eyes became even fiercer as it let out an enraged cry.

"What are you going to do?" Terrance asked. His voice easily reached Naoya's ears, making Naoya break into a cold sweat.

If this were an ordinary battle and he was using his own Pokémon, even if it fell for Taunt and could only use offensive moves, Naoya had the confidence to face any opponent. But the fatal problem was that the Crobat affected by Taunt was not one he had personally raised. In this situation, with the Trainer-Pokémon bond being disrupted by Taunt, Naoya even doubted whether he could command this Crobat at all!

"He actually planned his battle strategy while factoring that neither of these Pokémon belong to us..." Naoya's pupils shrank. Even though he hadn't underestimated his opponent, this guy was just too terrifying.

Watching Naoya's slightly panicked expression, Terrance couldn't help but flash a mischievous grin. If he were commanding his own Pokémon, he would never have acted this way. But since he was also using a Pokémon that didn't belong to him, the Pokémon information he learned through breeder knowledge, and the clear mind brought by the meditation method seemed to grant him divine assistance, allowing him to effortlessly grasp the key to victory.

"Even though my command skills aren't up to par..." Terrance wasn't being overly modest. In this regard, except for the first time when there was an information disparity, he had always been at a disadvantage in his battles with Albus.

However, Terrance's deep understanding of Pokémon somewhat made up for his shortcomings. But if he were to encounter a Trainer who was just as knowledgeable about most Pokémon, then this advantage would disappear.

"Crobat, create some distance and use Air Cutter!" Now that Crobat was in bad condition, Naoya quickly gave the command after regaining his composure.

However, Crobat did not follow his orders. Its anger had already consumed it. While it could still barely obey Naoya's commands when rational, Naoya was still a stranger to it. In this situation, the fact that Crobat could even comprehend Naoya's command to attack was already fortunate.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Air Cutter slashed through the air, but without any control. Anger clouded its mind, and that only made things worse.

"Double Team," Terrance said calmly. "Then, provoke it as much as possible."

Persian let out a cry. Facing the haphazard Air Cutter, it began to dodge carefully before splitting into multiple copies. Once again, it made taunting expressions to further fuel Crobat's rage.

"Don't fall for it! Don't attack recklessly! There are fakes!" Naoya shouted.

What should I do—

Watching Crobat struggle to suppress its anger, Naoya grew increasingly anxious. If he didn't issue an attack command soon, Crobat might start acting on its own.

Cross Poison... Bite... Wing Attack... Poison Fang... All of these close-combat moves were unusable. If Crobat got close without breaking free from the negative influence on its mind, it would only spell disaster.

If only ranged attacks were an option, then considering Crobat's current condition and the multiple figures of Persian before it, finding the real one was impossible. The only choice was to attack them all at once, leaving no openings for Persian to exploit.

Given the circumstances, even though Naoya had thought things through, this was the best he could do.

He decided to have Crobat attack with "Swift," a move that unleashed a large number of projectiles, making it nearly impossible to dodge. However, the moment he saw Terrance's smile, he knew it was futile.

A scattered Swift would undoubtedly have reduced power!

A concentrated Swift, if it failed to hit the real body, would leave Crobat in grave danger!

Lightning flashed across the sky, accompanied by an ear-piercing crackle. As Swift was obliterated, countless bolts of electricity engulfed Crobat!

Thunderbolt—highly effective!

Persian, continue pressing the attack!

One Thunderbolt was enough to jolt Crobat back to its senses, but Persian naturally wouldn't give it a chance to react. It had already seized the fleeting opening to slash at the falling Crobat, striking at a vital part!

"Night Slash!" By the time Terrance's voice reached Naoya's ears, Crobat had not yet lost consciousness. But when Naoya wanted to issue a command, it was already too late.

Crobat—defeated!

Throughout the entire battle, Persian had not suffered a single injury. It wasn't because Persian was inherently stronger, but because the right moves were used at the right times, seizing every opportunity and making full use of all available conditions.

"Why didn't you switch Pokémon?" Terrance asked.

"It wouldn't have made a difference. I didn't come here to win—I came to accumulate all kinds of experience. Sooner or later, I'll find myself in this exact situation again, with only one Pokémon left, and I'll still have to face it. Rather than running from it, I'd rather try to find a way to counter it now."

Naoya let out a faint snort. In the Battle Factory, unless he encountered a situation that was completely beyond saving, he rarely switched Pokémon. Just as he had said, accumulating experience in dealing with different scenarios would allow him to apply what he learned to his own battles in the future. It was unfortunate that this time, he hadn't been able to counter it. Still, Naoya wasn't discouraged. After all, Crobat wasn't his Pokémon, and the effect after being restricted by "Taunt" was too significant, making it unable to have sufficient understanding and trust with him as its Trainer.

"Which one should I send out next..." Another concern was figuring out how his remaining two Pokémon could counter Persian's "Taunt" move. From the start, the reason he had been wary of Persian was because it could learn moves that countered all three of his Pokémon. But what Naoya hadn't expected was that the real key to Terrance's strategy was "Taunt" itself!

"There has to be a way to counter this..." Naoya's hand lingered in midair. But when he saw the meaningful smile on Terrance's face, a sudden ominous feeling crept into his mind—a feeling that he was going to lose this battle.

What should I do?

Naoya considered most of Magmar and Cloyster's moves, but without an overwhelming strength advantage, his only option was to find a way to counter it.

Yet, despite all his experience, Naoya found himself completely flustered, unable to figure out a way to counter "Taunt."

"What a pity..." Terrance watched, now bored, as Cloyster was defeated in the same manner once again with Thunderbolt. The initial excitement had already faded from his heart.

It seemed that while his command skills weren't exceptional, when he played to his strengths, he wasn't weak either.

"If I want to improve, maybe the Battle Factory could help—but only if I follow the staff's advice and participate in continuous battles."

Terrance continued commanding Persian, moving like an elegant artist, finishing off the last remaining Magmar with Water Pulse.

Despite having no inherent advantage in strength, Persian managed to pull off an incredible feat of taking down three opponents all on its own with a single "Taunt" move, leaving Naoya stunned for a long time.

Seeing this outcome, Terrance, who had initially doubted how a team of three Pokémon could possibly challenge twenty-one, now started to believe in the idea. But even so, he still found it hard to accept that some Trainers could actually pull it off.

Persian... It had already expended a significant amount of stamina at this point.

As for Naoya, he was already cursing in his heart. In a place like this, the "Taunt" move was absolutely a broken skill!

"How could this happen..." Naoya sighed as he recalled his Pokémon, feeling completely helpless. This was the first time he had been threatened by Taunt move in the Battle Factory. Though it had ended in a crushing defeat, he had at least learned something from it—if he ever got a Pokémon that could use Taunt in the future, he would have the upper hand.

At the very least, for now, he still couldn't figure out how to counter Taunt with the three Pokémon he had on hand.

The only one on his team that knew Taunt was Crobat, and it had been controlled right from the start. Naoya felt downcast.
