Pokémon Court-Chapter 519: Fallarbor Contest (7)
Fallarbor Hall—after a short break, the closing ceremony was finally about to begin.
More and more spectators hurried back to their seats, and some contestants also emerged from the lounge, coming to watch the event in person.
“The atmosphere is noticeably different. It seems that the battle between Brother Terrance and Yamato has quite an attraction.” Chisana clicked his tongue in amazement, while also feeling a bit embarrassed for not winning.
He hadn’t even made it to the finals—Chisana himself found it rather shameful.
Sora stood with her companions, her expression complicated. She hadn’t expected to lose so miserably. Yamato’s strength was beyond comprehension, yet she had never heard of this Coordinator before in Hoenn.
“Sora, look! Yamato, who defeated you, is going on stage.”
The recipient of the Fallarbor Ribbon, Yamato, began walking toward the main stage under the guidance of the Announcer Vivian.
“Good afternoon, everyone! This Pokémon Contest is about to end. But before that, our champion, Contestant Yamato, will have a battle against Fallarbor Town’s Top Coordinator, Terrance! I’m sure everyone is eagerly looking forward to it!”
Terrance stepped onto the stage too!
The previously calm venue erupted like a boiling pan, with countless gazes fixed on the stage.
“Has he arrived?”
Terrance, who had earlier appeared in formal attire as a judge, had now changed into a different outfit—one he commonly wore when participating in Pokémon Contests. Seeing him dressed like this, many audience members who had watched the previous Grand Festival’s live stream felt a sense of nostalgia, as if they were witnessing the return of the outstanding Coordinator who had fought his way to the top.
“With this outfit change, Terrance looks much younger,” one spectator nodded and remarked.
Coordinator Yamato, nearly twenty years old and with a sturdy build, saw Terrance approaching and immediately grinned. “Senior Terrance, you’ve finally arrived.”
Although older than Terrance, he still addressed him as “senior.”
“Ever since I saw your first Pokémon Contest, back when I was still a Trainer, I’ve always considered you my goal.”
As soon as Yamato finished speaking, Vivian was slightly surprised and quickly relayed his words to the audience.
“So, it turns out that Contestant Yamato came well-prepared, with his sights set directly on Terrance!”
“Oh?” Terrance was intrigued.
“Verdanturf Contest, was it?”
As he spoke, he had already taken his position opposite Yamato on the stage.
“Sinnoh, Hearthome Contest,” Yamato said softly.
At the age of just 10, Terrance won the Hearthome Ribbon under the gaze of countless onlookers. This made the then-unremarkable Trainer Yamato envious beyond words. In the following years, as he found no hope for his growth in the Trainer field, Yamato recalled that moment in the Pokémon Contest and finally made up his mind to transition into a Coordinator. It was this very transition that unleashed all the foundation he had built as a Trainer.
“So, that’s how it is…” Terrance sighed slightly.
Yamato took out a Poké Ball and said, “So, please battle me with everything you have.”
It wasn’t Chisana, nor was it Sora. Instead, it was a Trainer who had once watched him participate in a Pokémon Contest that now stood before him as his opponent. Surprised, Terrance responded, “Of course, as you wish.”
“The battle begins!!” Seeing that both competitors had entered peak condition, Vivian held up the microphone and shouted loudly.
Eight yellow rocky spines extending from its sides, and an orange, rocky body adorned with a vertical pattern of small yellow stones appeared in midair—Solrock had entered the stage. As it appeared, its thick semicircular eyelids and the black slit between them began to emit an eerie glow, within which the red pupils shone the brightest. In the next instant, layers of flames erupted around Solrock, enveloping its entire body.
Meanwhile, on the other side—
After Terrance threw the Poké Ball, a loud cry echoed as Altaria, with its blue body, flapped through the air currents and made a radiant entrance. A faint glow enveloped Altaria, spreading from its claws to its entire body, as if it were bathed in divine light.
“Dragon Claw!” Terrance immediately commanded.
The distance of several meters was covered in the blink of an eye as Altaria swopped down at extremely fast speed.
Boom!
A loud explosion echoed as Solrock controlled rocks to block the way. However, under the power of Altaria’s Dragon Claw, Solrock’s obstruction was utterly ineffective.
Yamato’s pupils shrank—could this Altaria really be that much stronger than Solrock?
Just as Yamato was about to adjust his strategy, Altaria had already closed in on Solrock. Seeing this, Yamato’s eyes lit up. “Solrock, Fire Spin!”
Whoosh!
The flames surrounding Solrock instantly spun like a tornado, rapidly accelerating. The flame shield continued to expand, increasing its defensive range and standing firmly in the path of Altaria’s attack.
However, Altaria showed no intention of stopping. With bluish-purple energy amplifying its claws, it continued to fiercely attack using Pound!
“What the—?!” Yamato was shocked. Was it really going to force its way through?
In a Pokémon Contest, there were basic rules to follow.
In this situation, even if Altaria doesn’t suffer much damage, Terrance would still gain a significant advantage in terms of deducting appeal points by leveraging its superior strength.
Boom!!
Another loud crash echoed as Altaria, completely unfazed by Fire Spin, slammed Solrock straight into the ground.
“This…” Yamato quickly glanced at the appeal points display, only to see that Terrance’s side hadn’t lost a single point.
On the other hand, his own appeal points had dropped significantly.
“I see now… That glow at the start—was it Safeguard?” Yamato suddenly realized, feeling a wave of shock.
“Correct. The flames can’t burn Altaria,” Terrance replied.
After being slammed into the ground, Solrock slowly regained its composure and floated back up. However, its flame shield had completely disappeared, returning it to its original state.
“Amazing,” many spectators thought, feeling their excitement surge as they watched the battle.
From the audience’s perspective, the way Terrance commanded Altaria in battle felt very pleasing to watch.
From the very beginning, he had already figured out a way to counter the flame shield. By maintaining a strong offensive throughout, compared to Yamato’s Solrock, which lured the opponent in by retreating and defending, his approach was far more visually impressive!
“Yamato’s luck is really bad. Solrock’s overall strength is nowhere near Altaria.”
“If Terrance had sent out his Beautifly instead, the battle might have looked more intense and nerve-wracking.”
Many in the audience were engaged in lively discussion, though some disagreed. “Even if it were Beautifly, with all the disadvantages stacked against it, Terrance would still win with ease.”
These were spectators who had witnessed Terrance perform miracle after miracle. Their confidence in him was unwavering.
Before the battle started, many people had some expectations for Yamato, given how well he had performed so far.
Solrock was indeed strong—whether in defense, offense, or its ability to support in battle, it was top-tier. Even specialized battle Trainers would be wary of facing such a formidable opponent.
Unfortunately for him, he was up against Terrance.
