Chapter 517 - Genesect Amidst the Ice and Snow!

Seeing Keldeo, who had regained some of its confidence and taken the lead at the front of the group, Johan couldn't help but smile.

His Pokémon were starting to subtly influence others now—and Keldeo's transformation was the best proof of that.

After the Cryogonal appeared, Ninetales had fully acclimated to the mist, and could now sense and avoid the Ice-type Pokémon active within it.

With Keldeo leading the way, Johan and the team finally approached the "Giant Chasm," deeper into the intensifying cold.

Faint silhouettes of mechanical structures emerged in the mist—most of them corroded, but unnaturally sturdy due to being frozen solid.

"We're here," Keldeo said, its voice trembling slightly.

Though its mental state had greatly improved thanks to Larvitar, Ceruledge, and Johan, change was never instant.

Still, the fact that Keldeo could stand here, instead of running away like in the movie version, was a major step forward.

But now that they were this close, Johan had to tread carefully.

If Kyurem wasn't captured and lashed out in fury, the only option might be to escape on Dragonite.

With Dragonite's speed—and its "Outrage Mode" it learned from Rayquaza—they might make it.

Though honestly, Johan would rather face Kyurem than ride Dragonite in that mode.

If Kyurem was still here but weakened, they had less to fear.

But if Kyurem was gone—captured by Team Plasma...

"Either way, let's rescue the three 'Swords of Justice' first."

Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion would be valuable allies in battle.

And if Team Plasma was lurking ahead—without Kyurem, this battlefield belonged to Ninetales!

"Snowfall," Johan commanded softly.

"Oowoo~"

Ninetales flicked its tails, and icy crystals shimmered like powdered glass. Snowflakes began drifting down from the sky.

The northern wind howled, Ninetales' fur rippling, and the snowstorm intensified.

Keldeo stared at Ninetales, surprised.

This power... it felt faintly like facing Kyurem.

Not quite the same, but closer than anything else Keldeo had ever encountered.

"Yoji~ Yoji~"

Larvitar caught a snowflake and promptly ate it.

"Yoji~ ( ̄▽ ̄)"

Eyes half-closed, it shivered.

Yep, that's the flavor~

Keldeo was baffled.

Larvitar patted its back, chuckling:

"Yoji!"

Wait for it—when I evolve, Big Sis and I are gonna form the strongest 'Shaved Ice Duo'!

Shaved Ice Duo?

Still, Larvitar's antics did lift Keldeo's spirits.

"Do you remember where the three were frozen?" Johan asked.

"I do."

"Then we're counting on you."

Everyone turned to Keldeo.

Its limbs quivered slightly, but it quickly firmed up and nodded hard.

"Right!"

The ones who came to help were fearless—how could the one asking for help back down?

I can do this!

"Everyone, follow me!"

Keldeo, with Larvitar on its back, led the charge.

"Urshifu, watch the front. Ceruledge, the rear's yours."

"Garruu!"

"Goka!"

Buzz—Buzz—

Two waves of aura rippled out, scanning ahead and behind.

With Gengar, Ninetales, and its summoned snowfall, they had enough coverage—even if Kyurem attacked.

Meanwhile—

Onboard the Plasma Frigate.

Colress stood before a giant transparent tank filled with a strange bubbling liquid.

At its center lay a monstrous beast.

It looked like a bipedal dinosaur, gray-blue in color, with a distinctive ice-blue spike for a nose, two small arms with two claws each, and icy wings—one large, one small.

Its eyes were closed, nearly lifeless save for a faint breath.

Kyurem.

To capture it, Team Plasma had thrown everything they had at it.

Not just the five Genesect—but many of their combat units—and the all-important "Colress Machine."

If it hadn't been weakened from battling the "Swords of Justice," and distracted while freezing them to protect them...

Even then, they barely managed to capture it.

But even now, Colress couldn't control it—only contain it—slowly draining its power.

And despite the ice-proof container, the freezing cold within the room was already turning the entire chamber into an icebox.

Once Kyurem woke or that tank cracked, the frigate would be frozen in an instant.

An ice bomb with a ticking clock.

Buzz—

The screen lit up, reflecting in Colress's glasses.

"Did you catch it?"

The eager face of Vio, one of the Seven Sages, appeared.

He quickly spotted Kyurem and shouted, "Send it to me immediately!"

But Colress didn't move—hands tucked into his lab coat pockets.

"Colress?" Vio's face darkened.

Colress pushed up his glasses and smiled slightly.

"Vio, you can't control it."

"That's not your concern—"

"You can't control it." He cut him off again.

"...What are you trying to say?"

"You find me the DNA Splicers."

"I promised I would!"

"With the DNA Splicers, I'll control it—and not just control it, I'll make it the strongest it can be!"

Colress's face twisted into the feverish excitement of a mad scientist.

"You? Control it?" Vio frowned.

"Does it matter who?"

The two stared each other down through the screen.

Then, almost simultaneously, their expressions relaxed.

A silent, dark agreement reached.

"I thought this loss might be too costly," Colress muttered, admiring Kyurem like a masterpiece.

"What loss?"

Cha!!

Tinkaton soared upward, hammer raised high—

BOOM!

With a wail, a hulking Avalugg collapsed.

They couldn't avoid every threat—especially ones like this that blocked their path.

But the battle hadn't taken long.

"There they are!"

Keldeo spotted the frozen "Swords of Justice"—Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion, encased in ice.

Keldeo was excited.

But Johan stayed calm.

Too easy.

They were deep inside Giant Chasm—almost at Kyurem's den.

And yet... no trace of Kyurem's aura?

Was it too injured?

Or had it... been captured?

Either way—

"Let's free the Swords."

But that wouldn't be easy.

Kyurem's "Glaciate" was used to preserve them.

If it could be shattered easily, it wouldn't be worthy of Kyurem.

Keldeo charged, smashing its head into the ice—barely leaving a mark.

It tried again.

Still nothing.

"Why can't I break it?"

Keldeo stood there in disbelief.

If its horn weren't broken... if it had understood the "weight of the sword"... could it have saved them?

"It won't be that easy."

Cha!

Tinkaton tapped the ice with her hammer. Clang clang—like striking metal.

Her eyes lit up.

Could ice be forged into metal?

"Oowoo~~"

Ninetales approached, analyzing the structure with her Ice-type senses.

Goka.

Ceruledge unsheathed its blade, ghostly blue fire flaring.

Maybe we can melt it...

Suddenly—

"Ka-kaah!"

Gengar shrieked, and Ninetales' tails rose in alert.

The storm intensified.

In the swirling mist, five shadows appeared.

Five colored lights lit up.

Johan's expression changed.

Genesect!

Kyurem hadn't appeared—but the five Genesect had!

Did that mean Team Plasma had succeeded?

Then why hadn't they left?

"It's them!" Keldeo cried.

These were the ones who ambushed Kyurem.

The colored lights grew brighter.

In the manga, a single Genesect's "Techno Blast" with the Ice Drive froze all three "Swords of Justice."

Their strength was no joke.

And these five?

Their hostility was unmistakable.
