Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 122: Go Ahead, Call the Police
The middle-aged woman scanned her surroundings. The little girl had gotten food all over her mouth, and the woman took out a tissue to wipe her face.
Just then, Victoria Koenig, who had gone to buy ice cream, finally returned. Riley Perry took the strawberry ice cream from him, but her gaze remained fixed on the little girl in the distance.
She was wearing a little pink dress and a pretty crystal headband. Her face was round and adorable.
Riley Perry lowered her head and took a bite of ice cream. When she looked up again, the middle-aged woman’s umbrella completely hid the little girl from view. A moment later, she picked the child up, and the little girl rested her head on the woman’s shoulder.
Riley Perry took another bite of ice cream, then stood up and walked toward the pair.
"Ria, Ria, where are you going?"
"To serve justice!"
At that moment, Victoria Koenig could only think that his Ria was being incredibly dramatic.
[What’s going on? Looks like something’s about to happen.]
[Riley Perry is such a show-off. Anyone who didn’t know better would think she’s filming a wuxia movie!]
[I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but that woman seems a little off.]
[Stop spouting nonsense. What’s so off about her?]
Riley Perry paid no mind to what others thought. With her height and long legs, she caught up to the middle-aged woman in just a few steps. Just then, the ice cream in the little girl’s hand fell to the ground with a SPLAT. Riley Perry tapped the woman’s shoulder. "Ma’am, you dropped something."
The middle-aged woman stopped and turned to look at Riley Perry.
Riley Perry saw the corner of the woman’s mouth twitch violently, and she smirked to herself.
The woman looked like she’d just sucked on a lemon, her expression turning foul. "Who are you calling Ma’am? Watch your mouth!"
[One sentence and Riley already broke her composure!]
[Riley Perry has zero social skills. Would it have killed her to call the woman "Miss"?]
Riley Perry tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and gave the middle-aged woman a charming smile. "Ma’am, that’s not the point. The point is, you dropped something."
"What did I drop?"
Riley Perry pointed to the ice cream splattered all over the ground.
"Oh, well. It’s inedible now. Let’s just leave it."
"That won’t do. Don’t you have any sense of public decency? You need to clean up the mess you made. If you don’t have any tissues, I can lend you some. Get to it. Clean up the trash on the ground."
[Is Riley Perry nuts? Can’t she see the woman’s holding a kid? How’s she supposed to clean anything?]
[I’m getting the feeling she’s picking a fight on purpose.]
[I’ve never liked her, and I was right. There’s definitely something wrong with Riley Perry.]
[If you don’t like her, then scram. It’s not like she needs your approval.]
"I... I’m holding a child. Can’t you just help me clean it up?"
Riley Perry glanced at the woman. "Sure." She held out her hands toward her. "Here, give me the child. I’ll hold her for you. But be quick. I’m not very strong. I can only hold her for two minutes, tops."
The middle-aged woman instinctively recoiled, but Riley Perry gave her no chance to escape. She lunged forward and, in a swift movement, snatched the child from the woman’s arms.
Jenson had a gut feeling that something was wrong with this woman. He didn’t get too close, but he kept the camera zoomed in on her face.
Thus, the moment Riley Perry snatched the child, the camera captured the rapid change in the woman’s expression.
"Hey, why are you grabbing my child?"
Riley Perry took the child and immediately thrust her into Victoria Koenig’s hands. "Hold her tight."
Victoria Koenig fumbled to take the child, nearly dropping the water bottle in his hand.
"When did I grab your child? Don’t make things up."
"Everyone saw you. How can you deny it?"
Riley Perry said, "Why don’t you call the police?"
The moment the woman heard the words "call the police," a guilty look flashed across her face. "You snatched my child and you think you’re in the right?"
Riley Perry replied, "I’m not claiming to be right. Go on, call the police."
"...Just give the child back to me. Why would we need to call the police?"
Riley Perry grinned at the woman, her expression triumphant. "I refuse. Call the police, if you dare."
The middle-aged woman felt that the woman before her wasn’t all there; no normal person would react this way. She decided to just grab the child back, but Riley Perry consistently blocked her path, preventing her from getting anywhere near the girl.
The middle-aged woman was panting from exhaustion. Seeing a circle of onlookers had gathered, she put on a pitiful expression. "Miss, I’m begging you, please just give my child back to me!"
An onlooker suddenly spoke up, siding with the woman. "Just give her child back. If there’s a problem, talk it out. Don’t take it out on the kid."
Riley Perry didn’t get angry. You could run into people like this anywhere. They didn’t necessarily have bad intentions, just poor judgment.
She tapped her smartwatch and dialed 911. The call connected instantly. "Hello, police? I’m at the amusement park and I’ve caught a child trafficker. You need to send someone over right away."
When the middle-aged woman heard this, her face went pale and she turned to flee. Riley Perry let her get about ten feet away, then, as if only just now reacting, she chased after her and landed a flying kick to the center of her back, knocking her to the ground.
"AHH~" The woman fell so hard she felt as if her organs had been rearranged. Her palms and exposed elbows were scraped raw and bloody. The fabric over her knees was torn, revealing a large, bloody patch; they were obviously scraped raw, too.
"You... you hit me! Quick, someone help! Help me! She’s trying to kill me!"
[OMG, that scared me! How did they go from talking to fighting just like that?]
[She didn’t use her hands, she used her foot!]
[Oh, I hope it’s not what I think it is. That woman’s definitely shady. Why else would she run?]
[Confirmed. She’s gotta be a trafficker! Go, Riley! That woman deserves it!]
In the time it took for that brief exchange, a crowd had gathered around them. "Miss, you should talk things out. It’s better not to get violent."
This was a well-intentioned reminder. Riley Perry could even hear the unspoken part of the older woman’s warning: *It’ll cost you!*
"That’s right. No matter what she did wrong, it’s not right for you to resort to violence."
"What’s going on here? Do you need help calling the police, ma’am?"
Riley Perry wasn’t angry. She smiled warmly at the man who had just offered to call the police. "I’ve already called them. I’d like to ask all you helpful citizens to help me watch her and make sure she doesn’t escape."
"I suspect she’s a child trafficker. I only kicked her in a moment of panic because I was afraid she’d get away. The police should be here soon."
With that said, she used her watch to call for an ambulance. The call connected quickly, and Riley Perry reported her location. "Amusement park. The child may have been drugged and is unconscious. Please hurry."
As for the trafficker, Riley Perry couldn’t care less if she’d broken a bone. If she dared to steal a child, she deserved to suffer the consequences.
At this point, everyone’s attention finally fell on the child in Victoria Koenig’s arms. Despite the commotion, the child was still sleeping soundly, showing no signs of waking up.
"Claire Lee, find a park employee and have them make an announcement for the family of a lost child to come and pick her up."
