Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Domestic Violence

It made one wonder what kind of person would have it in for such a beauty.

"Riley Perry, I’ll be leaving in a minute, but there are a couple of things I want to say to you first."

In the hospital room, the air conditioner hummed as it pumped out cold air. Riley Perry sat up in bed with the blanket draped over her legs, her face expressionless as she looked at Raymond Warren.

As she stared at him so coldly, Raymond Warren felt his throat tighten, and the hands resting on his lap abruptly clenched into fists.

"Riley Perry, I... I fell in love with you at first sight. That’s why I pulled some strings to get onto the set of *Starfire*.

My family is pretty well-off here in Dragonspire. You’ve probably heard of the Warren Group, right? My dad and my uncle started it. My uncle doesn’t have any children, so the company will be mine one day.

I’m not trying to brag or anything, I just want you to know that I have the means to give you a good life. So, Riley... will you be my girlfriend?"

The door to the hospital room was already ajar, allowing the person who had just rushed over to hear every single word.

Henry Hayes watched his president’s face darken to the color of a scorched pot. He instinctively took two steps back, afraid he might freeze to death in the glacial aura radiating from his boss.

’Who was this clueless idiot in there? Daring to move in on the president’s woman... wasn’t he just courting death?’

The half-open door was suddenly kicked open with a BANG. Raymond Warren and his young assistant jumped in fright. Raymond even shot to his feet and yelled toward the entrance, "Who the hell is so damn rude, kicking doors down in the middle of the night?"

However, when he got a clear look at the people who entered, a terrible feeling suddenly washed over him.

It was simple, really: the group’s presence was overwhelming. They had brought a whole retinue of bodyguards. Six had entered the room, but another row stood sentinel outside the door.

The man in the lead wore a crisp suit and exuded a formidable aura. His eyes were so piercing that Raymond didn’t dare to look at him directly.

’He knew in his heart that with an entourage like this, these people were far beyond his league. He couldn’t afford to provoke them.’

"Riley Perry, who are they?"

Riley Perry had no time for him. She was staring at Cole Sinclair with an accusatory look, her eyes brimming with resentment. When she was done looking, she shot him a vicious glare.

Cole Sinclair was speechless. ’His little lover was getting bolder and bolder, wasn’t she? He hadn’t even called her to account yet, and she had the audacity to glare at him!’

Just as the clueless Raymond Warren was about to speak again, Cole Sinclair gave a single point of his finger. The bodyguards immediately moved in, covering the mouths of Raymond and his assistant and dragging them away. A moment later, they were unceremoniously thrown out. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Henry Hayes then led the other men out of the room, closing the door behind them.

The man sat down casually on the edge of the bed and took hold of the hand Riley Perry had resting on the blanket. "I rushed over the moment I heard you were in an accident, and you dare to glare at me?"

Riley Perry tried to yank her hand away, but after two failed attempts, she gave up.

She lifted her head slightly, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes glistening as if veiled in mist. She looked at Cole Sinclair, her gaze full of hurt. "My accident happened at 8:30 this morning. It was trending online by 9:30. There was a 10:30 AM flight from Dragonspire to the film studio, but you’re only just getting here. That means you didn’t just miss the 10:30 flight, you missed the 1:30 PM one too. And during all that time, you didn’t call me once.

But I suppose that makes sense. President Sinclair is too busy having dinner dates with other women. Why would you have time to worry about me?

Since President Sinclair has found someone new, we can just end our contract early. As of today, we’ll go our separate ways. We’re done."

A sharp pain shot through her hand, and the tears Riley Perry had been holding back finally streamed down her cheeks. "Oh, so now you’re going to abuse me? Go on, you might as well just break my hand!"

Cole Sinclair suppressed his anger and explained, "I don’t really go online. I don’t pay any attention to trending topics or celebrities. My mother asked me to have lunch with her, and I didn’t know anyone else would be there until I arrived.

She’s the daughter of the Chenning Family. Her mother and my mother are best friends, and the two families are trying to set us up. If I were actually interested in her, why would I be with you?"

Riley Perry scoffed. "Hmph, but you still gave her a ride home! It was trending everywhere. That wasn’t fake, was it?"

He could tell from her tone that she wasn’t as angry anymore, and Cole Sinclair’s voice softened. "Our families go way back. We’re family friends. When we were little, she and her mother came to my house all the time, sometimes they’d even stay over. So what’s wrong with giving her a ride home after a meal?

Are you not even going to allow me that?"

Riley Perry turned her head away, refusing to look at him. "What right do I have to forbid it? I just figured that since you’ve found someone you care about, I should be smart enough to leave on my own. Better than being an eyesore."

Cole Sinclair let out a soft chuckle. He reached out and turned her face back toward him. The delicate girl’s tear-streaked face was utterly captivating, making it impossible to stay mad. "This little temper of yours... who was it that spoiled you so rotten? To think you’d dare to give me the cold shoulder.

From now on, don’t say such foolish things. If there’s ever anything on your mind, you can just ask me.

Besides, are you completely blameless in this whole affair?

Why didn’t you call me when you got into trouble?"

Riley Perry shot back, "Oh, so this is my fault now? Are you being serious? I fell from who knows how high and was knocked out cold! I didn’t wake up for hours. When I did, I saw this was all over the internet, but I still hadn’t gotten a single call from you. Then I saw *your* trending news. How could I possibly dare to disturb you then?"

Seeing her looking so wronged, Cole Sinclair’s heart couldn’t help but melt. "All right, all right, it’s all my fault. From now on, if you want to know anything, just ask. I’ll tell you. Just don’t let your imagination run wild like this again."

’What could he do? This woman knew exactly how to get to him. The moment he saw her tears, all he wanted to do was comfort her and give her whatever she wanted. He couldn’t even bear the thought of raising his voice at her.’

’He didn’t understand what was happening to him, and he didn’t care to find out. Right now, he just wanted to follow his heart and hold her in his arms.’

And with that, Riley Perry found herself being lifted up and settled onto the man’s lap. "Tell me, where are you hurt? Are you still dizzy?"

Riley Perry let out a deliberate little groan. "Still dizzy. And nauseous."

Cole Sinclair was at a loss. ’It wasn’t that he wasn’t concerned, but... for someone with a supposed concussion, she seemed awfully sharp when she was accusing him.’

’If there are no internal injuries, does that mean the external ones are severe?’

He deftly unwrapped the gauze from Riley Perry’s wrist. "This is a little deep. Have they changed the dressing? It won’t leave a scar, will it?" In truth, the wound wasn’t deep at all. It was just a scratch that had broken the skin and bled a little. But even so, he couldn’t bear to see it.

Her body was practically flawless, but now her wrist was marred by a few cuts. His brow furrowed, the lines deepening with concern.

"They changed it. The doctor said it won’t scar if I take good care of it."

"Does it still hurt?"

"Yes, it hurts so much. I hate pain the most." Here, Riley Perry’s tone shifted. She stared at Cole Sinclair with her beautiful, unblinking eyes. "But... it will stop hurting if you kiss it."

And so Cole Sinclair did. He not only kissed it but, like a parent comforting a child, blew gently on Riley Perry’s wrist over and over, as if that alone could whisk the pain away.

The gentle puffs of air tickled her. Riley Perry couldn’t help but try to pull her hand back, and she finally let out a laugh she could no longer suppress. "Stop, that tickles."
