Chapter 94: Kacir’s Real Form

(Amaia)

My heart jumps into my mouth as the light and warmth seem to have receded around him, sucked into the black hole of shadows that lift off his skin.

Like an extension of his hunger, gloom and liquid darkness, they split into arrows, spears and swords. The coldness they possess I can feel till here. Brutality, hopelessness and void they carry. He hurls them towards Kacir at a blinding speed, the ones vampires are known to possess.

But Kacir jumps and effortlessly weaves through them, transforming mid-air, not into a wolf but to my surprise, into a hound.

I draw in a sharp breath as reality settles like a jigsaw puzzle for me. So that’s why he didn’t heal as quickly as others back when we went through the first test. It also explains what he said about Rahria wanting an Alpha werewolf. He wasn’t one, he was a hound.

"I am guessing you didn’t know," Alnitak says in amusement. I just nod my head, without blinking.

Kacir has transformed into a black hound with intelligent blue eyes. The sun highlights the glossy black sheen on his coat.

Agile, fast and intelligent, that’s the vibe I get from Kacir’s hound form. He dodges the shadows lunging towards him from Rigel. The more weapons he throws, the faster Kacir becomes.

It’s a sight to behold how quick he is on his sturdy legs. The sharpness he uses to assess the situation and flying weapons is commendable.

Rahria has transformed into a light brown wolf with soft-looking fur. She also makes a beeline for Rigel, letting out a low threatening growl, seeing him attack Kacir.

Luthial jumps ahead and, to our surprise, transforms into a Lynx. With soft gold eyes, tawny brown fur and black spots decorating it. He is magnificent to look at. Lynx are known for keen hunting skills and strategic techniques. It reveals how he was able to put in a perfect strategy for the tug-of-war.

Luthial intercepts Rahria with a low growl building in his throat, restraining her from reaching Kacir. They battle it out with their paws and jaws.

My eyes shift back to Kacir and Rigel. Kacir crouches in front of Rigel, remaining low but observing him, trying to decipher his next move.

Rigel takes a bored step forward and looks down on Kacir. The ferocity in his eyes makes me shudder. He lets his aura flow out, and even from this distance, I can sense it invade my being. It doesn’t overwhelm me but it does others.

Rahria lets out a low whimper while Kacir flattens on the ground, letting out painful yowls. His body spasms on the spot, his legs scratch against the ground and his pained bays prolong.

"What’s happening?" I ask in desperation, clutching Alnitak’s arm. My eyes won’t waver from my friend who is whimpering in pain. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Blood sucker is using his strong aura on Kacir and Rahria. He is much stronger than they are and he can crush them without having to raise a finger," Alnitak explains through gritted teeth. His hands have fisted beside him.

"This fight needs to stop," I desperately say. My eyes waver to Professor Ewine but he seems to be enjoying it, unable to realise how grave a danger his pupils are in.

Rigel is choking him merely with his powerful aura. I can only imagine what kind of torture that must be. I have seen it done to enemies back in my former pack and their eyes would shoot out of their sockets, literally.

Effortlessly Rigel steps forward and places his foot down on Kacir’s head, pressing it further down into the ground.

Humiliating him, torturing him.

His guildmates cheer him on as he summons two spears from his shadows. They lift off his arms and neck like ghosts and meld into fine-looking weapons.

"No, no..." I shout, but he skewers them both in the back legs of Kacir’s hound form. A guttural roar of pain escapes the hound which pierces my heart.

Rahria whimpers on the ground, unable to move, but I know she feels the pain of her mate. Luthial just stands over her, not hurting her anymore seeing she is already in distress.

"Bloody asshole!" Mintaka growls from my other side.

My angered eyes waver back to Rigel and he lifts his head to watch me. There is no humanity in those bloodshot eyes, only pain and the endless void of nothingness.

No feelings, no emotions.

Procuring another spear which seems to glisten under the sun like a mixture between black obsidian and tar.

"Don’t...please!" I beg and something flashes in his eyes. He tilts his direction slightly and aims the spear right towards the creature chained to the crystal they have to procure.

The spear flies through the air, glistening like his shadowy extension and piercing the heart of the creature.

In a split second, it falls to the ground, dead.

Leaving an unconscious Kacir behind, he moves so effortlessly like gliding over the ground. Reaching the crystal he snatches it from the ground and raises it towards his guildmates.

They cheer, jumping up and down while the whistle finally sounds from Professor Ewine.

"Team Pegasus wins. What a one-sided show," he announces in glee.

Blindly Mintaka and I run towards Kacir while Alnitak sprints towards Rahria.

So much blood has pooled all around Kacir’s unconscious body. His face is buried in the mud with his legs sprawled in odd directions, the back ones profusely bleeding.

"Kacir..." I bend down touching his soft fur as tears accumulate in my eyes. It’s all my fault.

Sentinels arrive with a wooden stretcher and tell us to step aside. Picking up his limp body, they place him on the stretcher and hurriedly take him away towards the infirmary.

Collecting myself I helplessly stand up and face Rigel. Closely, he is watching me, observing my reactions.

"You bastard!" Mintaka snaps right beside me and tries to lunge forward to attack. But I plant myself between the two.

"No, Min. This is what he wants," I painfully say. Kacir is my friend, and he has just brutally hurt and humiliated him on purpose just to prove his point.

With a taunting smile, Rigel moves away, walking like those dangerous shadows he possesses, and both of us just stand there and watch him go, with me gripping Mintaka’s arm.

Ramian’s howlers and teasing words flow our way as the huddle around him.

Alnitak has taken Rahria to the infirmary, and that’s what our next destination is going to be: to check on our guildmates.

But first I need to do something.
