Post-Apocalypse: Mated To Alphas Of Orion-Chapter 96: Whom To Trust?
(Amaia)
My feet rapidly carry me towards the infirmary, and to my surprise, I find Alnilam and Headmaster Fallon, standing there with the twins.
Their faces grim as Alnitak fills them in on what happened.
Headmaster Fallon frustratedly rubs his face, the agitation so visible there. Alnilam pinches the bridge of his nose.
"He is tough, he is going to pull through," Alnilam places his other hand on the back of Headmaster Fallon as I come to a halt beside Alnitak.
"Yes, but being choked with vampire aura leaves consequences and permanent damage," he rigidly answers, his eyes flitting towards me and all I see is pain and concern for his son.
"How are they?" I quietly ask Alnitak.
"Rahria is not seriously hurt and will be discharged in a few hours. Kacir is unconscious..." Alnitak doesn’t finish the sentence and I lower my head.
So many thoughts swirl through my brain. The dilemma of not making the right choice makes my heart incessantly ache. I can either distance myself from my mates giving in to Rigel’s threats. Or I can continue and keep putting them in danger.
"Who is he? He doesn’t seem like an ordinary vampire," Alnitak finally breaks the awkward silence. He is addressing Mr Fallon and his older brother.
"You don’t need to know everything. Just focus on your practice and getting stronger, leave the rest to us," Alnilam answers in a dismissive tone.
"No need to know? He almost killed our friend. He seems too advanced to be in our session. Why is he even here?" This time it’s Mintaka who speaks. Rage is evident in his voice. He leans away from us, against the wall with his arms huddled over his chest.
"He is exactly where he needs to be. And my son has a lot to learn. Having tough opponents teaches and pushes you to do your best. That’s what all of you should strive for," Headmaster Fallon answers without any hesitation.
Seriousness remains in his voice and yet I see concerns on his face. He is trying to put on a bold face. We all know that recruits have lost their lives in training sessions because becoming a Hunter or an Enforcer in this world is not for the faint of heart.
Maybe they have brought Rigel on purpose, to test all of us. Alnilam has been hellbent on giving us a hard time so we can connect and bond as a team. This seems pre-planned.
This conversation reinforces my belief that Alnilam is the one who has planted Rigel.
The door to the infirmary opens, and all our heads whip in that direction. A very tired-looking Healer TJ stares at us with angered eyes and says.
"Kacir is stable."
All of us visibly relax. Alnitak lets out a small guffaw of excitement.
"But I won’t be stable soon with everything you people keep throwing at this old man. You have no regard, none at all," he angrily mumbles before closing the door again and leaving us there.
Headmaster Fallon turns to face Alnilam. "Keep me updated about my son and no need to tell him I was here."
"Will do," Alnilam quietly answers.
With that, he leaves, his cape flying behind him.
I don’t understand why he is afraid of showing his feelings and emotions to his son, or is that some fucked up way of making him strong?
Alnilam turns his attention towards us and I feel his sharp gaze on me.
"I understand that it’s a difficult situation for all of you. Two of your guildmates have been wounded but needn’t I remind you, this is part of your training. You will lose your friends in battles, even mates and that’s the fucked up reality we live in."
His gaze passes between the three of us and I can feel the anger bubbling inside the twins. It’s feeding the mate bond I share with them but they stay quiet because no matter how bitter Alnilam’s words are, they are true.
"I will be arranging a special session soon. So be prepared to be tested in ways you haven’t imagined. Practice with each other, be each other’s strength." He pauses and then focuses his swirling violet eyes on me.
"Amaia, I need you in my office during the evening."
I give him one small nod. Throwing one concerned look at his angry brothers who seem to be barely holding on from ripping someone’s head off, Alnilam leaves.
Once he is out of earshot, Alnitak says, "I am telling you guys. That fucking vamp is no ordinary one. They have brought him to test us, and we are going to need a strategy against him."
Mintaka slowly bangs his head against the wall in frustration. "I agree. We need someone with a protective shield in our team."
Mintaka’s words give me an idea. Maybe that’s the field I can work with Alnilam. We are already dealing with Element Air and I am confident I can use it to create a protective shield—store it in my weapon like I did with my electric power and use it when needed.
Weapons that can store powers are called Enchanted Weapons, and mine is certainly one of them. I can channel my powers when needed through it and no one will be suspicious. Humans do it. Buy weapons from witches and warlocks with stored powers to use. I can have an advantage on the battlefield with my weapon and shield.
"I have an idea, I just need to convince your brother with it," I tell them and they both stare at me with creases appearing on their foreheads.
Before they can speak, the door opens again and Healer TJ pokes his head out.
"You people can see him...but, BUT, no noise and no one will wake him up. After seeing him return to your sessions, I don’t want a crowd outside my infirmary."
That puts a smile on our faces and we rush inside to see our friend.
