Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten-Chapter 266: Grateful He’s a Playboy
After hearing that, Lin Zhengran started thinking—maybe having more girlfriends actually meant less intimacy.
After all, they’d balance each other out.
When traveling, he couldn’t just spend time with one person.
“Alright, come over tonight,” he said.
Little He Qing was overjoyed.
So happy she forgot everything else—until she was walking down the mountain, hand in hand with Lin Zhengran, all smiles.
It wasn’t until they saw Lili and Wenwen that He Qing suddenly remembered—like her memory had come flooding back—she hadn’t done a single thing she was supposed to!
Let’s not forget, it was Little He Qing who first said, “Seven is too many,” when they began the “Girlfriend Alliance Plan.” Wenwen had already known beforehand.
And yet… both Jiang Xueli and He Qing had failed.
By the time they returned to the picnic site, it was already 6 p.m.
Even though summer nights came late, the moon was already starting to rise.
In the hours they’d been gone, Jiang Xueli and Han Wenwen had already finished setting up all four tents.
The four tents were positioned like a small courtyard—one on each side of the picnic blanket in the center, forming a tight square.
A cozy little "four-room courtyard" layout.
When they got back, Lin Zhengran looked at the neat setup and even praised the girls, “Looks good! Nice job, Wenwen, Lili. You two worked hard.”
Han Wenwen and Jiang Xueli were happy to be complimented.
But when they looked at He Qing, she shrank her neck shyly in embarrassment.
“I’ve let down the team’s trust,” she mumbled.
The three girls gathered together for one last time.
Little He Qing hugged her knees tightly, burying her face in them.
As a fellow failure, Jiang Xueli wasn’t in any position to judge. She simply asked, “So you didn’t succeed either?”
Little He Qing’s voice was like a mosquito’s hum:
“No… I didn’t even say anything. I’ve always listened to Lin Zhengran since we were kids. How could I go against what he thinks or talk back to him? I just can’t do that.”
Jiang Xueli chuckled softly.
“I figured. Miracles aren’t just gonna happen out of nowhere. Still, I get it.” She patted He Qing’s shoulder.
He Qing peeked at her sisters. “Also… I broke the rules. I did stuff with Lin Zhengran… stuff beyond hugging. I’ll do the ice bucket challenge when we get back. I’m sorry.”
Jiang Xueli sweatdropped and pulled her hand back, but quickly said again, “Totally understandable.”
Han Wenwen looked at the two guilt-ridden girls and didn’t sigh this time.
Instead, the Little Fox picked up a mirror and found a comb.
She started brushing her draped long hair, slow and steady.
Jiang Xueli and He Qing looked at her.
He Qing: “You’re the only one left, Wenwen.”
Jiang Xueli noticed that Wenwen’s expression had grown serious—mysteriously confident.
She was confused. This wasn’t how she looked earlier when they were setting up the tents. Where did all that confidence suddenly come from?
“Han Wenwen, why do you seem so sure of yourself now?”
The Little Fox curled her lips into a sly smile, her enchanting eyes sweeping over the two of them. She set down the comb and mirror.
“It’s not about confidence. It’s that I’m the only one left with a chance—so I can’t lose. I have to win. You two, just trust me. Watch what I can do.”
He Qing and Lili exchanged a glance. Somehow, they felt hope again.
In unison:
“You got this, Wenwen!”
“Go, Han Wenwen!”
Han Wenwen flashed an OK sign. “The advantage is mine.”
She got up and went to find Lin Zhengran.
He was drinking water and thinking, Last one.
Han Wenwen approached with a bright smile. “Brother Zhengran, can we talk alone for a bit?”
Lin Zhengran finished off a bottle of mineral water. “It’s getting dark. Not much to see on the mountain now.”
“Then let’s not go up. How about chatting in the car? Wherever Brother Zhengran goes, Wenwen’s happy to follow.”
He didn’t refuse.
Seeing that, Han Wenwen turned to wave back at Jiang Xueli and Little He Qing. “I’m going to chat with Brother Zhengran for a bit. You two go hang in the tent. We’ll have dinner together after.”
From a distance, the girls called out, “Okay.”
Then Lin and Han walked toward the parking area.
The Little Fox’s graceful figure swayed as she walked, every step full of subtle charm.
Once they were far enough from the other girls, Han Wenwen said softly,
“Sorry for bothering Brother Zhengran so much today, back and forth all day long.”
Lin Zhengran looked at the parking lot just ahead. “It’s fine. We’re out here to have fun. I’m not tired.”
At the car, Han Wenwen stood tall and straight, tilted her head slightly, eyes full of affection, and spoke with a playful pout:
“Come on, no way you’re not tired. Just the walking alone’s gotta wear you out, right? Not sure if the other two told you, but us three came to talk to you one by one because of… the girlfriend thing.”
Lin Zhengran opened the car door. “I know.”
“You look like you already saw through everything?”
“I’ve known you three for how long? This isn’t my first day.”
They both got into the backseat. Lin Zhengran climbed in first. Han Wenwen took off her shoes and sat sideways on his lap with her bare, pale feet.
After closing the car door, she studied his face carefully. Without saying a word—
She leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips. Then, biting her lip in jealousy, said:
“I already knew—I wouldn’t be able to convince you. If I could, I would’ve done it years ago, back in middle school. Why wait till now?”
Lin Zhengran wasn’t surprised by her reasoning—it made sense.
“So you gave up trying to talk me out of it?”
Han Wenwen cupped one of his hands, resting her face on his chest.
“It’s not giving up. It’s just—I never planned to stop you. If Brother Zhengran wants seven girlfriends, then so be it. Wenwen is just your little fox. Do little foxes go against their master? That’d never happen.”
Lin Zhengran gently stroked her head.
“I could tell you were jealous today. Back when our relationship wasn’t public, even the tiniest bit of kindness I showed He Qing or Lili would make you all sour. You seemed fine today, but I know you’ve been stewing in vinegar this whole time.”
Han Wenwen’s enchanting eyes trembled.
She let out a soft hum, voice laced with bitterness as she played with his big hand.
“Since Brother Zhengran already knows, let’s not bring it up again. I admit I’m petty. These past six hours were pure torture. I knew you were getting close with them… and that they were probably all over you. But what could I do?”
“All I could do was purposely lose, go last, so I’d have more time with you. Every extra minute matters.”
She continued, full of jealousy:
“But speaking of being a playboy—even now, I still wonder… what if I had met Brother Zhengran first when we were little? Maybe if I stuck to you every day, you’d never have liked anyone else? Forget seven—even two is too much for me.”
Then she laughed. “But in reality, I was the third girl you met. So... sometimes I’m kind of grateful that Brother Zhengran is a bit of a player. Otherwise…”
She imagined a different outcome, and her heart grew heavy:
“Otherwise, what would I have done? If Brother Zhengran had only loved Little He Qing, and not me, I wouldn’t have made it into high school three years ago. I would’ve been separated from her… from you. My life might’ve ended back then.”
“Don’t say that,” Lin Zhengran said, hugging her tightly.
Han Wenwen kissed his cheek and murmured sweetly,
“I’m not kidding. If you hadn’t been there when I had that fever… if you hadn’t been there during that New Year’s… who knows what would’ve happened to me? Without Brother Zhengran, I wouldn’t even have the will to live. It wouldn’t matter if I was in this world or not.”
As her emotions swelled, tears welled up in Han Wenwen’s eyes.
Lin Zhengran gently wiped them away with his fingers and stroked her head to calm her.
Han Wenwen smiled through her tears, holding his hand tightly.
“Thankfully… Brother Zhengran likes me. I get jealous when you flirt with other girls, but life’s still interesting. I’m happy just seeing you every day. So if seven is what makes you happy—then seven it is. If you’re happy, Wenwen’s happy.”
She nuzzled his jaw with her head.
“To me, Brother Zhengran is the most important person. The most, most important.”
