Private Marriage, Secret Love-Chapter 142: Let’s Compare, Who Disgusts You More
"Raina—"
Raina Reddington looked at Zoe Scott with a calm expression. "Mom, no matter how wrong I am in your eyes, I’m still your daughter. Ethan Lancaster is out there wining and dining, has the family really not heard a single whisper about it? He’s openly keeping a woman on the side. Why don’t you show a little pity for me?"
Zoe Scott’s face paled and flushed. Mia Reddington angrily slapped her own leg. "You’re such an ungrateful wretch! Look how you’ve upset Mom!"
"Raina, let’s put everything else aside for a moment. It’s normal for couples to have conflicts. Can’t you just yield a little?" Ronan Reddington couldn’t step in to persuade her himself—he couldn’t swallow his pride—so he had to rely on Zoe Scott.
"I won’t beg him. As for what happens to the Reddington Family, we’ll just have to leave it to fate."
Zoe Scott truly couldn’t understand what the big deal was. Besides, just a single plea could save the Reddington family from this disaster. Why was that so impossible?
Unless... she simply didn’t want to lift a finger to help.
"Raina, are you really going to be like this?"
Raina Reddington’s gaze fell on the coffee table. Two bags of cookies sat there, unsealed by a clip, and they had likely gone soft. That was what she sometimes ate for dinner. ’These people walked into The Verdant Garden and didn’t even notice there was no housekeeper, much less ask me what I eat when I’m home alone.’
"I won’t beg him. Not even if I die." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
And with that, the visit ended on a thoroughly sour note.
Ronan Reddington quickly wheeled himself out. Zoe Scott shook her head in disappointment, not even bothering to spare Raina Reddington a glance.
Ethan Lancaster didn’t get up to see them out. He had already been ruthless enough. He said he wouldn’t help, and he didn’t. The Reddington Family was definitely holding a grudge against him, so why should he bother with pleasantries?
The two of them were still nestled on the same sofa. Ethan Lancaster draped his arm over Raina Reddington’s shoulder. "You’ve really managed to offend your entire family now. Look at you. You think you can ever go back?"
Raina Reddington swatted his hand away. "I never planned on going back."
She stood up, but Ethan Lancaster grabbed her wrist and pulled her forcefully back down. "You really are heartless. The Reddington Family is in this state, and you can’t even bring yourself to beg me. Raina Reddington, are those few little words, ’I’m begging you,’ so hard to say?"
"It’s not hard. I just don’t want to beg you."
A slight smirk touched Ethan Lancaster’s lips as he asked with a cheeky grin, "Why?"
"Because you disgust me."
The man’s smile slowly faded. The expression on his face became unreadable. A few lights from outside shone through the glass window, but they couldn’t penetrate the dark depths of Ethan Lancaster’s eyes. "I disgust you?"
"Yes. Don’t you think so yourself?"
Ethan Lancaster let out a dry, rasping laugh that sounded somewhat terrifying. "Then for Miles Hawthorne’s sake, would you beg me?"
"No." She felt uncomfortably cramped and tried to stand up, but Ethan Lancaster gripped her shoulders with both hands, and no matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free.
"If you ask me, I’ll take you to him right now."
Raina Reddington’s gaze met Ethan Lancaster’s, hesitant, but her words showed no sign of yielding. "I don’t believe a word of your damn lies."
"Since I’m promising you, I will definitely take you."
"You’d be that kind?"
’He just wants to toy with me. How much fun it must be to play me like a fool. To watch me run around in a frantic panic, to listen to me beg him over and over just to see May Sullivan one last time... how happy that must make him. Why would he be willing to let this torture end so soon?’
"I’m not being kind. I’m just tired of seeing you like this. You want to see him that badly, so I’ll grant you your wish this once."
The words danced at the back of Raina Reddington’s throat. She pressed her lips together, staring intently at Ethan Lancaster’s face.
"If you don’t want to see him, then forget it." Ethan Lancaster released his grip and prepared to stand.
Raina Reddington lowered her gaze. "I’m begging you."
A cold chuckle immediately escaped his lips. "What did you say? I didn’t hear you clearly."
Raina Reddington deliberately raised her voice. "I’m begging you."
"How nice. So one Miles Hawthorne is worth your entire family. Raina Reddington, they were right. You don’t have a heart, do you? I’m afraid something must have eaten it long ago."
Those words couldn’t hurt Raina Reddington in the slightest anymore. "Can you take me there now?"
Ethan Lancaster leaned closer to her, peering deep into her eyes. "If I were you, I wouldn’t have begged."
"You’re not me. Besides, I’ve already begged you like this. Aren’t you happy?"
Ethan Lancaster sneered. ’Did she really expect him to be happy?’
He stood up from the sofa. Raina Reddington gazed out the window. "Are you taking me, or are you going to give me the address so I can go by myself?"
Ethan Lancaster didn’t say a word and strode outside. Raina Reddington followed without the slightest hesitation.
Ethan Lancaster stood by the car and said something to Seth Sinclair. Raina Reddington saw Seth’s gaze fall on her through the car window. Ethan then got into the car as well. After Seth closed the door, he quietly gave the driver the address.
The drive was long and agonizing. Raina Reddington was so afraid that Ethan Lancaster would change his mind halfway that she didn’t dare to even spare him a glance.
The night outside was heavy and dark. Although it wasn’t yet late, the wickedness and desire that belonged to the darkness were beginning to stir. Raina Reddington didn’t know why she was so nervous. She clasped her hands together, feeling that the journey was incredibly long, as if it would never end.
Ethan Lancaster stared at her tightly clasped hands. The car was silent. Seth Sinclair turned on the stereo, and a sorrowful melody tore at Ethan’s eardrums. He was growing irritable. "Turn it off."
Seth Sinclair didn’t dare delay and quickly turned it off.
The car drove past one high-end club after another without slowing down. Raina Reddington secretly wondered if it might be one of them. Ever since Miles Hawthorne had been moved last time, Raina had changed her list of potential locations. She wasn’t content to search blindly, but even with all her research, it had been useless.
After passing through the bustling city center, the car entered the old district. They couldn’t speed up here; electric scooters were darting about recklessly everywhere.
The sycamore trees lining the road were dense with branches. The car turned onto a small lane and quickly came to a stop.
Raina Reddington looked up and saw a barbershop and a dry cleaner’s by the side of the road. Not far off, there was a place that looked like a KTV, its rotating lights dazzling and unsettling.
Ethan Lancaster was the first to push open his door and get out. Seth Sinclair followed.
"Fourth Master, I’ll go in with you."
"No need."
Seth Sinclair was worried. A place like this was filled with all sorts of people. Ethan Lancaster was a man of high status; Seth felt that even one step inside would dirty his feet.
Ethan Lancaster walked over to the other side of the car and knocked on the window. "What, scared to get out?"
She clutched her phone tightly and pushed the door open. There was a sticky smell in the air. Ethan Lancaster walked straight ahead, and Raina Reddington hurried to keep up. The two of them soon arrived at the entrance of the KTV.
A heavy curtain blocked Raina Reddington’s view. Unwilling to let Ethan Lancaster go in alone, Seth Sinclair rushed ahead and pulled the curtain open first.
By the time Raina Reddington entered, Seth Sinclair had already gotten the information. He pointed down the hallway. "Second private room."
