"Mommy, I promise you. Don't cry anymore, I promise you." Seeing his mommy's tears falling even more fiercely, Jimmy Horne immediately and very sensibly agreed to his mommy's request and once again wiped her tears away.

"Jimmy." Adele Horne pressed her son's head into her bosom, hugging him tightly as she wept bitterly. She cried for her own fate, for her grievances, and for her son's. She had been violated by an anonymous stranger, become pregnant before marriage, and become an unwed mother. She took all this as a punishment from God for her former arrogance and petulance. But now, she had changed everything; she knew her mistakes. Why then, did God still treat her this way? The man who had left nothing but a necklace behind all those years ago had actually come back. He had even learned of his son's existence and was intentionally trying to fight her for custody of her child. If she lost her son, how could she go on living?

Julia handed her son over to her family members and, at Glades's signal, she too went upstairs. At times like this, what her sister-in-law needed most was comfort and warmth.

"Mom, Adele won't open the door?" Julia asked with concern. She saw her mother-in-law standing in front of the door, eyes red and swollen, no longer knocking yet unwilling to leave.

Mila Anderson shook her head.

"Julia, that man... did he really come? How did he find out about Jimmy's existence? Was it his idea that Jimmy was kidnapped? Does he want to take Jimmy away?" Mila Anderson asked, her voice hoarse and heavy with sorrow as she thought of her daughter's suffering, her eyes reddening further. Her daughter's situation had always weighed on her heart like a heavy stone. As time passed, her grandson was nearing four years old—smart, sensitive, and well-behaved. She had thought her daughter would gradually find happiness, especially with the man who had returned with her; he seemed quite acceptable. But suddenly, out of the blue, her grandson's biological father had shown up, and the life that was beginning to calm was once again thrown into turmoil.

Julia nodded.

Mila lamented, "What's he here for? He disappeared without a trace back then, what's he doing showing up now? My poor daughter..."

"Mom, don't worry. Maybe things aren't as bad as we imagine," Julia comforted her mother-in-law. In her view, Noah Reyes hadn't forgotten about her sister-in-law. His disappearance back then might have been due to circumstances beyond his control. At least, she didn't believe Noah Reyes had come to snatch the child away; otherwise, he wouldn't have let her bring Jimmy Horne back.

"Mom, you go downstairs first. I'll talk to Adele," Julia said, helping Mila Anderson toward the staircase.

Mila Anderson nodded. Perhaps her daughter would open the door for her daughter-in-law.

"Julia, comfort Adele properly," Mila said. "Tell her not to worry about anything with us here—no one can take Jimmy away."

Julia nodded. Glades Horne had also somberly asked her to convey this to Adele when she was heading upstairs. The Horne family was Adele's support; with them around, no one could take Jimmy Horne away!

Mila Anderson went downstairs.

Julia turned back to Adele Horne's room, knocked gently, and said, "Adele, open the door. It's me, Julia."

Inside the room, Adele Horne's emotions had stabilized somewhat. Hearing Julia's knock, she released Jimmy Horne, stood up, and opened the door for Julia to enter.

"Mommy, I'm hungry," Jimmy Horne said softly.

Adele Horne looked at Julia. She knew her sister-in-law had come upstairs to talk to her. Now that her son was back, with several older brothers downstairs, and Marcel Horne had even brought his warriors back, no man, no matter how powerful, could take her son away at this moment. So, she said gently, her voice hoarse, "Jimmy, go downstairs first. Let the nanny make you something to eat. Mommy will talk with your Aunt Julia for a while."

Jimmy Horne nodded, then walked out of the room and went downstairs.

Julia pulled Adele Horne to the bed, sat her down, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Silly girl," she said sympathetically, "what are you crying for? What are you worried about? We're still here for you. We'll never let anyone bully you and your son again, not even Billy's biological father!"

"Julia, I'm scared!" Adele Horne said, her voice hoarse and raspy from crying, thick with a nasal tone. "I'm afraid he's come to take Jimmy away. I can't be without Jimmy!"

"What's the use of being afraid?" Julia affirmed. "If he really came to take Jimmy, your fear wouldn't stop him. Don't be afraid. I've met Noah Reyes too, and I don't think he intends to take Jimmy. Otherwise, he could have just kept him. Why let me bring Jimmy back? He was reluctant; he walked us all the way to the door. I could see he really, really wanted to keep Jimmy, but he still didn't. That proves he isn't here to take Jimmy away."

However, she didn't voice the other thoughts she had. Let nature take its course. Noah Reyes might not be a good man, but if he could bring Adele Horne happiness, Julia would still welcome it. After all, Jimmy Horne was his son.

Adele Horne fell silent. Julia's words made sense. If he had really come to take her son, her fear wouldn't change anything.

Julia and Adele Horne talked for a long time. After conversing in the room for over an hour, the two sisters-in-law finally went downstairs together.

Ivan Horne and Jimmy Horne had already eaten and bathed. The nanny had taken them to their rooms to rest, as they had school as usual the next day. Of course, to prevent a recurrence of today's events, the Horne Family would no longer let the two boys take the school bus. This incident had been unexpected for everyone.

The others were still there. The elderly lady sat with a concerned look, not having retired to her room as early as usual. Noah Reyes's appearance, and his aggressive approach, had left the Horne family members unable to calm down. Seeing Adele Horne come downstairs, everyone quickly hid their worries. They comforted Adele, reassuring her that the Horne family would shoulder anything that came their way and that she didn't need to worry.

Late that night, Glades Horne and Julia finally returned to their large bedroom. Julia looked up at him. They locked eyes, and after a minute, Glades asked in a deep voice, "When did you meet Noah Reyes?"

"After Adele's incident, I took her and Nurse Lee to a trade show," Julia recounted. "On the way back, we almost hit Noah Reyes's car. I didn't know he was Noah Reyes, nor did I know he was the one who had violated Adele. His men were aggressive. Adele argued with them. He rolled down his car window, looking very angry, and shouted something. But when he saw Adele, he changed. His expression became strange, and he just kept staring at her. After that, he didn't say anything. He signaled his men to get into the car, and they just left."

"Damn it!" Glades Horne cursed under his breath.

"Glades," Julia said, shifting the topic, "I've talked with Adele. She resents Noah Reyes. She said she doesn't want any relationship with him, nor does she want Jimmy to acknowledge him as his father. She also doesn't want to see Noah Reyes. It looks like we'll need your help with these matters."

Julia understood her sister-in-law's feelings and decision. Anyone would resent the man who violated them under such circumstances, even if Noah Reyes's actions had also saved Adele.

Glades Horne remained silent. He loosened his grip, pulled Julia into his embrace, and headed toward the inner room. Even if his sister hadn't said anything, he wouldn't easily let Noah Reyes see Jimmy or her again.

Upon entering the inner room, Glades Horne led Julia to the bed.

"Glades." Julia didn't resist, instead wrapping her arms around his neck. Her voice softened as she said, "I'm fine now. Not a single hair on my head was harmed."

Glades Horne still didn't speak, just gazed intently at her.

"Julia, I'm sorry." After a long pause, Glades Horne finally spoke, his voice hoarse. He was as angry at Noah Reyes's arrogance as he was at himself. He had watched her being taken from right beside him; it was as if Noah Reyes had slapped him hard across the face. He had been with bodyguards, even holding her hand, but still... That moment replayed in his mind like a thunderclap, relentlessly hammering his heart. She had been in danger, and he had failed to protect her properly. He blamed himself deeply.

"It's not your fault. It happened too suddenly." Julia didn't blame him at all. Even if something terrible had happened to her, she wouldn't have blamed him. No matter how powerful he was, with influence that seemed to span the heavens, he was still only human. Even deities have limitations, let alone mortals.

"I wish I could chop Noah Reyes into pieces!" Glades Horne said in a low voice, his face still contorted with anger at the mention of Noah Reyes.

Julia caressed his handsome face. The passage of time had left no trace; he was still as striking as ever—handsome, dashing, and resolute, making her fall for him all over again. I know. She was his Achilles' heel; anyone who touched her, he wanted to shatter into pieces.

"But seeing Jimmy protect him like that, I can't just chop him up!" Glades Horne said, his voice filled with emotion. "Father and son are father and son. Even if they've never met, Jimmy would still protect him."

"Jimmy craves a father's love. Even though we all love him dearly, that love is irreplaceable. If Jimmy knew the truth about Adele's decision, he would be heartbroken," Julia said, her heart aching as she considered the child's perspective.

Glades Horne fell silent again. Who could be blamed? Heaven? Earth? Adele? Noah Reyes? But no matter who was blamed, Jimmy was innocent. All the adults knew how much the little guy longed for a father's love.

"We'll see how Reyes behaves next," Glades said softly. "If he doesn't make any more extreme moves, perhaps we can consider convincing Adele to let Jimmy acknowledge him."

Julia hummed in agreement, accepting his concession. She knew that despite his anger, he was still reasonable at heart. Her man truly was the best!
