Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 735 - 734: Dragon and Phoenix Meat (1)_1
Glades Horne called out her name in a low voice, but Julia, though she heard him, chose to ignore him. Glades knew she was angry. After she entered the Side Hall, he also stood up. He walked to the entrance of the Side Hall, leaned against the doorframe, and stared at Julia.
A moment later, Ivan finished his weekend homework. Julia checked it and was very satisfied. Then, she gently had her son remain in the Side Hall, kindly explaining the benefits that habits formed in childhood would have on his future life. She hoped her son would do his best, as it was very likely that he would one day take over the vast Valence Group.
People say wealth does not last beyond three generations, but she hoped her son would break this "saying," surpass his father, and continue to grow the Valence Group, making it even more powerful.
Ivan had set aside his playful demeanor from earlier and listened seriously to his mother’s lecture, his composed aura once again revealing itself.
"Mommy, I know I was wrong," Ivan Horne said apologetically, looking up at Julia with his small face.
Squatting down, Julia met her son eye-to-eye. As she listened to his apology, she affectionately stroked his small cheek and said, "It’s good that you know you were wrong. You can go play now, but don’t get too wild."
"Mm-hmm." Ivan kissed Julia on the cheek and then left the Side Hall.
Seeing his father standing at the entrance of the Side Hall, Ivan flashed his dark eyes and gave Glades a ’you’re on your own’ look, which amused and irritated Glades at the same time.
Julia turned around and saw Glades leaning against the doorframe. Her expression stiffened slightly as she walked towards the doorway where he stood. However, she intended to leave the Side Hall, not purposefully approach Glades. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Julia," Glades quickly called out, his voice soft and low.
Alright, he admitted, he had been overly indulgent with his son. He shouldn’t have protected and sided with his son just now. His wife’s words were right; her approach was correct. No matter how smart his son was, since they had chosen to let him grow up like a normal child, he had to accept the habit of doing homework like other children.
Julia didn’t respond to him, nor did she acknowledge him. She passed by him and headed upstairs.
"Julia!" Glades Horne became anxious and immediately followed her upstairs.
No wonder his son gave him that ’you’re on your own’ look earlier, he thought. His beloved wife is still angry.
That boy, Glades mused, he’s really not supportive enough. It was for his sake that I upset my darling wife.
The housemaid, seeing the usually loving couple who had never argued or even raised their voices at each other now seemingly in conflict, said nervously to the matriarch, "Madam, the Young Mistress seems to be angry with the Young Master. What should we do?"
The old lady chuckled. "No worries, Glades will handle it."
Couples always have their moments of emotional strife.
"Julia," Glades Horne called out in a deep voice, still trailing after her, but she didn’t answer, just kept walking.
Julia returned to their large bedroom, plopped down on the sofa, turned her head away, and sat in silence, not looking at Glades, who had followed her in.
Glades followed her inside. Seeing her like that, his heart twinged. They had never argued before, and he had rarely seen her sulk. Now that he did, he felt a pang in his heart. He gently closed the bedroom door.
He silently walked to the sofa and sat beside Julia, taking her hand. Julia tried to pull her hand back, but Glades wouldn’t let go. He gently caressed her hand; though she was over thirty, it was still as smooth as an eighteen-year-old girl’s.
Julia still faced sideways, not looking at him.
Facing her, his eyes filled with tenderness, he smiled softly. "Honey, are you angry?"
"No."
Julia averted her gaze, not wanting to look at him, stubbornly denying her anger despite clearly feeling it.
"You’re broad-minded; you wouldn’t get angry easily," Glades chuckled lightly.
"I’m a woman, and women can be petty," Julia retorted irritably.
"So, you really are angry?" Glades said, his smile deepening.
Julia pouted. She had fallen into his trap and unwittingly admitted her anger.
"Yes, I’m angry!" she confirmed, glaring at him.
Can’t I be angry?
He was the one who said he wanted our son to grow up like other children, to get a normal education. All I do is supervise. Our son makes mistakes because he’s still young; no matter how smart he is, his self-control can’t compare to an adult’s. And him? As a father, when our son’s thinking is off, he doesn’t guide him but sides with him instead! How could I not be angry?
Right now, Ivan is our only child. If we don’t educate him properly, he’s the one who will suffer, and we, as parents, will be the ones in pain.
She knew he doted on their son, spoiled him even. She doted on him too, spoiled him too, but there had to be limits.
"I’m sorry, it was my fault. I just... well, I was just going along with what our son wanted," Glades apologized in a low voice.
Julia looked askance at him, retorting petulantly, "Going along with what he wanted? So you go along even when he’s wrong? Fine, from now on, you can be in charge of him. I won’t interfere. It’s not like I can manage him anyway, not with you always protecting him."
Glades smiled, wrapping his arms around Julia and softening his voice. "Don’t be angry anymore. From now on, I promise I won’t get in the way of you disciplining our son."
"And you’re the CEO of Valence Group, no less," Julia said, still sounding irritable.
Glades’s voice grew even gentler. "It’s my mistake, and I’ll change. Honey, I’m only human, and humans make mistakes. Don’t be angry; it’s bad for your health. If you still can’t let it go, how about I let you vent a little?"
"How should I vent? Beat you up?" Julia finally cracked a smile.
Seeing her smile, Glades breathed a sigh of relief. He hugged her, leaning back into the sofa with her in his arms, and said with a soft smile, "If you really want to hit me, I’ll stand right here in front of you, completely still, and let you do your worst."
"You’re so tall and sturdy; hitting you would only make my own hands hurt," Julia said, pinching his waist with a playful, though still slightly vexed, laugh.
"Honey, just say you don’t have the heart to hit me. That would be much nicer to hear," he said.
The tension in Julia’s demeanor had completely vanished.
This was the first time the two had experienced even a slight bit of friction between them; it felt a little strange, yet also very normal.
