Chapter 754: Chapter 753 Joyful Events One After Another (3)_1

Chasing a woman by giving her grass? Noah Reyes must be the first person ever in history!

Thinking of this, Adele Horne suddenly smiled.

After the initial shock wore off, the room erupted into laughter, and his embarrassed expression only made it funnier.

In the company, a male colleague laughed so hard he could burst. He kindly asked Noah Reyes who taught him to give grass, to which Noah instinctively answered that it was the Horne Family matriarch!

She couldn’t help but cover her mouth and laugh.

The grandmother had meant to tease him on purpose. He couldn’t think of a good strategy to woo girls and actually believed what his grandmother said, turning himself into a laughing stock.

When he didn’t send flowers or grass, he started copying others by sending clothes, gold and silver jewelry, gold cards, and food—basically, he tried a different approach every day. It didn’t seem to matter where he heard about these things. If it was said to be liked by women, he’d send it without considering whether she would like it or not.

Every day, as soon as he appeared, everyone would start guessing what he would give that day.

For several days, he brought chocolates, so many that she had to share them with her colleagues. After several days in a row, her coworkers were scared of chocolates; just the mention of the word made them show fear.

Look, such is the might of the Demon! He made so many people show fear.

"I don’t know, it doesn’t seem like any cars followed," Anne Jones said with a giggle.

"Ignore him."

Adele Horne continued without looking up.

"Assistant Adele, it’s said that Mr. Black is your son’s father, right?"

Adele Horne suddenly looked up and asked Anne Jones, "Anne, who told you that?"

"Everyone’s talking about it outside. Haven’t you seen the gossip news?"

Gossip news?

Adele Horne shook her head.

Anne Jones looked incredulous. The fact that the true head of the Black Emperor Group was the biological father of the Horne family’s illegitimate child—and that father and son bore a striking resemblance—had already been exposed by the gossipers. Yet Adele Horne apparently didn’t know.

However, it seemed that the Horne Family members hadn’t paid attention, or rather they just didn’t care, because it was the truth.

"Do you want me to find it for you to see?"

Adele Horne first nodded, then shook her head, deciding not to look after all.

What difference does it make to look or not? It is the truth, after all.

"Assistant Adele, is it true?"

"Anne, when did you become so gossipy? You weren’t like this when you were with the Valence Group."

"You knew I was..."

Adele Horne laughed. "Don’t forget I’m a Miss Horne. The Valence Group is my family’s company. How could I not know?" Only her silly sister-in-law truly believed the company had recruited a good secretary on its own. She never realized that it was her own dearest brother doting on his wife, who had insisted on transferring Hansen Ruiz’s secretary to Huayi to help his sister-in-law.

"I’m busy. Pretend I never gossiped about anything. Remember, don’t let Director Lan know. Otherwise... you know the consequences without me saying it," Anne Jones giggled and hurried off.

"If it were before, I would definitely talk, but now, I wouldn’t say a word even if it killed me," Adele Horne whispered to herself.

In the past, all she wanted was to break up her brother and his wife. Now, her greatest wish was that they’d stay affectionately in love, just like in the beginning.

She stood up and walked to the window. She opened it slightly to look at the black luxury car parked in front of the company, then returned to her desk and nonchalantly busied herself with her work.

「James Horne hadn’t returned to the Horne Family Mansion for some time.」

Today, however, he came back, bringing Rebecca Hughes along with him and a load of gifts.

The two of them walked into the house hand in hand, fingers tightly interlocked, an indication that good news was just around the corner.

Mila Anderson hadn’t gone to the beauty salon today and was leisurely enjoying milk tea in the living room.

The old lady looked listless, as if she was playing chess with the legendary Duke of Zhou in a dream.

Gian Horne was nearby, playing with an antique vase and continually wiping it with a cloth.

"Grandma, Auntie, Dad."

James, leading Rebecca, walked in and called out in a deep voice.

His voice instantly shattered the tranquility of the hall.

Mila, who was drinking her milk tea, stopped and turned her attention to James. The listless old lady suddenly became animated, and Gian stopped polishing the vase and walked over with a smile.

"James, Rebecca, you’re back."

Gian, too, was filled with guilt towards this younger son of his. James’s infrequent visits to the Horne Mansion made him feel responsible for his son’s reluctance to return home.

"Have a seat." Mila’s tone was still somewhat indifferent, but it was much warmer compared to before.

Seeing that James was still carrying many gifts in his other hand, she expressed her disapproval, "James, why bring so many things when coming to your own home?"

Rebecca immediately laughed, "Auntie, I bought these. They’re gifts for everyone. Just a small token, please don’t mind it."

Mila was quite polite to and fond of Rebecca. Rebecca was friends with Mila’s precious daughter-in-law, and Mila also liked Rebecca’s straightforwardness. Hearing Rebecca’s words, Mila smiled, "Rebecca, shouldn’t you start addressing me differently? Has James not taken any action for so long? Or is it that your two elder brothers won’t let you go?"

James had thoroughly made Rebecca his own; she had already moved into James’s villa, a place even James’s once most beloved Julia had never entered. Now that Rebecca had moved in and become the lady of the house, it was evident that James’s love for Julia had slowly transformed into familial affection.

It was only after moving into James’s private home that Rebecca saw the photos James had hidden away, capturing Julia’s beauty at every stage of her life. Only then did she confirm that James had indeed once truly loved Julia.

James also confessed his past feelings to her. Learning that James had once loved his own elder brother and had also fallen for his sister-in-law Julia, Rebecca didn’t consider him abnormal. Instead, she felt immense sympathy. She said that he must have had a tough and exhausting past. She declared that from now on, she would love and care for him well, to ensure he would never suffer or tire again.

Rebecca’s face flushed red.

James immediately wrapped his arms around her waist and coaxed tenderly, "Rebecca, you really need to start calling her Auntie."

Rebecca’s face grew even redder.

Yet Mila laughed heartily, glancing at James and saying meaningfully, "Drop the ’Auntie.’ Just call me Mom. James, you too."

Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look at Mila Anderson.

By putting it this way, Mila was essentially accepting James as her son.

Ever since Mila had known of James’s existence, she had never truly accepted him in her heart. Even after he was acknowledged by the Horne family and moved into the Mansion, she had always treated him with indifference, never showing any concern for James. Now, she was asking James to call her "Mom." Did it signify that she had truly accepted him?

James’s expression changed subtly. It had been thirty-two years. For the first time, his aunt smiled at him, affectionately allowing him to call her Mom.
