Chapter 202: The Mind Game

Early the next morning.

In the center of the hotel’s king-sized bed, Jenny opened her eyes and stretched lazily.

"Miss Jenny, you’re awake."

Her assistant, Evelyn, stood beside her with clothes in her hands, moving cautiously, clearly afraid of being scolded.

Jenny seemed in a decent mood. She raised a brow. "How’s the online public opinion looking?"

"It’s all leaning in your favor. A lot of people are even speaking up for you. Harper’s side has started trying to control the narrative."

"At this point? It’s already been two days since everything exploded," Jenny scoffed. "Trying to suppress it now is pointless. People only believe what they see."

A smile appeared on her face. But the moment she noticed her assistant standing there with a worried look, her mood instantly sank.

"What’s with that expression? Do I owe you money or something?"

"No, no, Miss Jenny. It’s just that you’re still new to the industry. Picking a fight with them like this doesn’t look good. And the director’s side... it’ll be hard to explain."

"When did I ever ask for your opinion?" Jenny snapped coldly. "Let me be clear—you’re just an assistant. Don’t interfere in any of my decisions."

She got out of bed with a dark expression, grabbed the clothes from Evelyn’s hands. "Go prepare my breakfast. And call all the paparazzi back to me.."

"Yes."

Evelyn was humble to the extreme as she hurried out.

Jenny let out a soft, scornful laugh and murmured to herself, "Sophia... I’m just letting you see what happens when you cross me."

When she left the hotel, there were still faint tear marks on Jenny’s face. The moment people looked at her, their hearts softened.

Sometimes, silence spoke louder than words.

Inside a car some distance away, Sophia took one look and said quietly, "Let’s go. To the set."

Jenny entered the film set surrounded by a crowd of supporters. A group of male fans who suddenly appeared out of nowhere were openly showing sympathy for her, even vowing to support her.

The director had already been in a foul mood. The moment he saw Jenny approach, he burst out angrily, "Why didn’t you clarify things earlier?!"

"Director, I—"

"Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused the entire production?"

The director was usually precise and strict. This project, in particular, had a massive cast—traffic stars and veteran actors alike. And yet, because of her scandal, the entire surrounding area was now completely blocked by crowds.

Jenny’s eyes reddened again.

Suddenly—

"Director, long time no see."

The director turned and actually broke into a smile. "Sophia? What brings you here?"

Jenny frowned. She had expected Sophia to show up—but she hadn’t expected her to know the director personally.

Sophia smiled faintly. "I’m here because of the situation between Harper and Jenny. I’ve taken a look at the public response—it’s affected the crew, but it’s also given the film some free publicity. Director, rest assured. Leave their matter to me."

"Alright. I trust you. But shooting schedule cannot be delayed."

Sophia nodded. After the director left, she turned around and looked at the people behind her with a faint, unreadable smile.

"Miss Morgan, what brings you here?"

Jenny continued to play dumb.

"I came, of course, because of Harper. I wanted to apologize to you on her behalf. However..." Sophia paused slightly. "Right now, all online opinion is pointing at her. I don’t understand why you chose to do this, but it’s already caused a serious negative impact."

Sophia’s attitude was not arrogant at all—instead, it felt approachable.

Jenny kept up the act. "Miss Morgan, I truly don’t understand what you’re talking about. I know you and Harper are friends, but I really have no idea about what happened online. I also don’t understand why someone secretly took those photos and uploaded them."

"Oh? You don’t understand?" Sophia said calmly. "You were the one who asked her to rehearse with you. That’s why she put real effort into the scene. And she didn’t actually hit you—what happened was just a misaligned angle. That’s exactly why I find it curious."

"Miss Morgan, I already clarified things online. It has nothing to do with me. I even said it was only a rehearsal. But they don’t believe me—what can I do? I can’t exactly hold a knife to their throats and force them to believe me, can I?"

Sophia’s lips curved slightly. "What really happened that day—I may not know. But don’t forget, the set is covered in surveillance cameras. Every move you made can be traced. You may not have directly told people to accuse Harper, but what you did went far beyond what’s visible on the surface. Even the paparazzi outside—you were the one who called them. Your real goal was never Harper. You did all this to get back at me."

Jenny’s expression shifted. "I—"

"Don’t rush to deny it. The truth is clear to both of us. You were angry and resentful. And since Harper is my friend, you took it out on her as a way to declare war on me."

Every word Sophia spoke struck straight into Jenny’s heart.

Jenny’s face twisted further. Finally, she snapped, giving up all pretense. "Fine—yes! Back then, weren’t you so high and mighty? So I took revenge on Harper instead. Even that slap she gave me—I designed that in advance. I wanted to pin a crime on her that never existed and completely ruin her reputation! Since you bullied me, isn’t it even better that I retaliate by destroying your friend?"

Sophia’s smile only grew wider. "As long as you admit that everything was your design—that’s enough."

Jenny frowned. "What do you mean?"

"You don’t need to understand," Sophia said lightly. "I just want to tell you this—everyone pays for what they do, sooner or later. And the mistakes you’ve made... you’ll have to bear the consequences yourself."

Her lips curved into a faint smile. "You still have scenes to film today. Make sure you perform well. After all... once today is over, there’s no guarantee you’ll ever get another chance. Treasure every second you have now."

After leaving that cryptic sentence behind, Sophia turned and walked away.

Jenny stared at her retreating figure, her eyes filled with confusion and unease.

"Miss Jenny, was that Sophia? Why would she suddenly show up on set?"

"Why are you asking so many questions?" Jenny snapped. "Hurry up and get my costume. It’s time to shoot."

An inexplicable sense of anxiety spread through her chest—most likely triggered by Sophia’s sudden appearance.

During filming, she kept losing focus and was called out by the director several times.

"Jenny, are you even okay today? If you can’t do this, step aside and stop wasting everyone’s time."

"Director, I’m sorry. Jenny isn’t feeling well. We’ll adjust," Evelyn said quickly as she helped her to the side. "Miss Jenny..."

Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out from the distance.

"Jenny!"

She looked up—only to see Vivian storming toward her in fury.

"Sister, what are you doing here?" Jenny asked, forcing out a smile that hadn’t even fully formed yet—

Her vision blurred in an instant.

Smack!

The sudden slap knocked Jenny completely dumbstruck.

She lifted her head in disbelief, staring at Vivian’s furious face. "Sis... you hit me?"
