Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 16: Another Spiritual Duck
"Hey ducky, come on, choose which one of these male ducks you like."
"Quack?"
"Yeah I’m serious, you really can choose anyone..." Fengyu paused, a bad premotion rising.
"Quack!" the duck pointed at Zimu, looking at him with glowing eyes.
"No, you have to choose one of these ducks, not any duck. Hey, don’t twist my words."
"Quack! Quack quack!"
The duck argued that he said she could choose anyone, angry at him.
"What if I told you that you have to make do with them? Would you like that? I am just and I support equality, if you want me to force Zimu, then I will force you too."
"Quaaaack? Quack quack quack!" the duck quickly distanced, looking at the eleven male ducks menacingly.
"Hey, don’t be like that. I mean, after you choose them, they’ll become stronger. Trust me!"
"Quack quack quack, quack, quack!"
"Yes, okay, if you really don’t like them after they become stronger, then I will try to convince Zimu."
Finally, the duck nodded and simply pointed at the only male duck of the first batch. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
After all, they had known each other for two months.
Then it pointed at the other ducks –
"Quack!" – this one’s beak is too dull.
"Quack!" – this one’s beak is too sharp.
"Quack!" – this guy shits the most.
"Quack!" – this one I simply don’t like.
"Quack," "Quack," "Quack,"... it continued to complain about the others.
Then turning to the duck that had accompanied it for two thirds of its lifetime, it became slower and quacked softly.
"Quack." – this one is... alright.
"Yes yes, childhood sweethearts are great, should’ve just told me right away!" Fengyu became annoyed.
He pointed his finger at the happy jumping male duck –
[Spirited Duck, use 10 Beast Origin Essence Strands to advance to low-grade first-stage beast? 11/10]
’Yes!
The strands he had gathered from raising these ten male ducks the past month finally came in use.
With a push, the stands flew out of his finger and into the body of the duck. In an instant, they dissipated and the power spread across the body of the duck.
Seconds ticked by as spiritual power gathered from all around.
"Quack!" with a mighty quack, the duck transformed from a Spirited Duck to a low-grade first stage Spiritual Duck!
"Quack quack? Quack, quack. Quack!" the female duck, seeing the duck grow to her size, its feathers glossy and the beak becoming just right, exclaimed its sight in delight and started chatting with the duck right away!
The other male ducks, seeing this, looked at Fengyu with a look of astonishment.
So this was the man that could make them find mates!
Unfortunately, they wouldn’t have this chance.
Fengyu directly packed them into the cart and led them away.
They quacked behind him but he couldn’t understand them.
Even the spiritual ducks were barely understandable, basically only conveying an emotion and thought, not their true words.
Additionally... having been raised on a farm, he knew the cruelty of selling your herded animals, but this was unavoidable in the pursuit of his path.
It hardened his heart and made him even more determined to pursue immortality!
Looking at Zimu who had been rather quiet, he saw that he duck had no such emotion.
It simply looked around the village with a look of excitement for seeing new things.
"Are you really not sad we’re selling them?"
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Zimu looked at him questioningly.
Thinking for a moment, he shook his head, "Are you still hung up on that? Hey, are you sad when monkey-"
"Stop your monkey metaphors, tell me honestly!"
"Then are you sad if some random human who was near you for some time is suddenly found dead?"
"This..." Fengyu thought about it.
If it was his past life, even if the dead person was the friend of a friend of a friend, then he would still feel some sadness.
But his life here before he awakened his memories was one where he heard about the deaths of cultivators all around.
Maybe they made a mistake and died in an accident.
Sometimes it was a family dispute ending in one killing the other.
Many times it was death in the pursuit of resources, whether during a hunt or otherwise.
Even after he awakened his memories, he still heard and even saw from a distance how a person was killed, or at least he heard it.
His thoughts churned and he really asked himself – would he be sad?
To be honest, if it was someone like Ming and Ling, two cute children who were like his younger siblings, then he would definitely be sad.
But if it was just anyone he had met in the village?
"No, I wouldn’t be sad if it was some random human..."
"See? Isn’t that the same for me then?
Even if they were smart, I don’t interact with them and only pass by..."
"It’s like a mini village in the field, isn’t it? In that case, close ones are friends, and if you’re not close, then it’s just a fellow villager. In this world of cultivation, if a fellow villager is killed, you won’t be sad for the death but become scared you might be a target too.
Since you know the hunter, you won’t fear his arrow..."
"Alas, life is hard!"
"Quack! Quack! Quack!" the ducks behind him continued to quack, not understanding what he said, simply chatting among each other.
He sighed slightly but didn’t move away.
Entering the village, he looked for around for a bit.
There were only three buildings and the rest were simple huts.
He went over them one by one and realised that none of them bought ducks.
In the end, he went to the general shop.
Two guards stood outside, simple mortal guards.
"Hey, are you two martial artists? Can you take care of my ducks for a moment? I’ll be selling them here."
"Yes lord, we will look after them!" one of the guards stood by the door while the other came to his cart.
He looked at the ducks with a serious expression – with his first-rate martial arts, he could barely compare to them!
