Chapter 57 - 57: I Will Definitely Keep the Appointment When the Time Comes

"Sure! I'll definitely keep the appointment then."

Easton Holmes didn't even bother to politely decline Lily Turner. As soon as she finished speaking, he immediately responded affirmatively, as if he had been waiting for her to say that.

Uh?!

Lily had just said it casually as a courtesy but didn't expect the other party to take it seriously. She was momentarily stunned, then nodded towards the man standing not far from her, "I'll call Mr. Crowe then."

"You can call me directly," Easton said as he took his phone out of his pocket, unlocked it, and opened the contacts. "What's your number?"

Doesn't he know her number? Then how did his subordinates know it? What on earth is this man up to?

Lily hesitated for a moment but eventually gave her phone number to Easton. Shortly after she finished reciting the number, she heard her phone, placed by her pillow, start ringing. It wasn't hard to guess it was him calling, but she didn't bother to even lift a foot.

She couldn't be bothered to check now; it wouldn't be too late to save the number later. She needed to see him off first, or else her sister would be back soon.

"I'll be waiting for your call then."

Easton waved the phone in front of Lily, to which she only offered a slight smile without responding verbally.

He gave her a deep look, then turned and walked towards the door of the hospital room. Watching his retreating figure, she exhaled a long breath of relief. But just as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped, causing her to worry he had changed his mind and wouldn't leave.

"Just to clarify, the investor in the film is Luke Crowe, not me," he said, glancing at her before opening the door and leaving the room.

It took Lily quite a while to recover from Easton's sudden statement before he left. Once she regained her composure, she rolled her eyes at the recently closed door. Not that she intended to spread rumors; she wasn't keen on doing so anyway.

That man really is a weirdo, claiming the investment was from someone else when it was clearly from him.

Could the source of those funds be questionable? He's in a leadership position; could that money be from bribes?

Various images suddenly popped into Lily's mind, none of which were pleasant. She shook her head vigorously, trying to rid her mind of those images, but instead, she ended up dizzying herself.

Luckily, she managed to grasp the nearby sofa in time; otherwise, she might have embarrassingly fainted on the floor.

More than half an hour later, Alice Turner returned with dumplings. Seeing only Lily in the hospital room, she knew without asking that her sister had sent the man away. She expected this outcome.

Just right, she could now take this opportunity to ask her sister without any reservations. She walked over to her sister lying on the hospital bed.

When Alice opened the door and came in, the drowsy Lily had already heard, but she was too exhausted, and since it wasn't an outsider who had come in, she didn't sit up as she would have for others.

"Sis! You're back?" Due to just waking up, Lily's voice sounded a bit hoarse when she spoke.

Alice came over, full of questions for Lily, but seeing her sister's fatigued expression, she immediately lost the heart to ask. Feeling compassionate, she reached out to gently rub Lily's head. "I brought dumplings back for you. Get up and eat while they're hot."
