Easton Holmes and Lily Turner did not go back to their in-laws’ place. After returning from the cemetery, they went back to their own home.
Having been away for a long time, there was nothing to eat at home. Easton eagerly volunteered to go to the supermarket to shop, and on his way out, he left his phone at home.
Earlier, when the phone buzzed, Lily initially didn’t want to answer it, but it kept ringing as if it wasn’t going to stop; so she took the liberty of answering it for Easton.
Little did she know, as soon as the call was connected, Ryan Taylor on the other end didn’t give her a chance to speak. He started talking a lot just as she answered. She wanted to interrupt him, but never found the opportunity.
After waiting for Ryan Taylor to finish speaking, Lily didn’t know what to say. She hesitated for a moment before finally deciding to respond.
"Easton went out to buy something and left his phone at home. Do you need him for anything? I’ll have him call you back once he returns." Lily said these words all in one breath, without any pauses.
After speaking, the phone went suddenly silent. The silence felt awkward to her.
Ryan Taylor didn’t expect Lily Turner to answer the phone. He realized he might have been too casual with his words earlier and wondered if Lily was upset.
"I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, just calling out of boredom." Whether it was really out of boredom, only he knew. Hearing Lily answer, he suddenly didn’t know what to say, "Since he’s not there, I’ll hang up first."
"Oh! Goodbye!"
Lily didn’t know what else to say to Ryan Taylor, so after hearing him say he’d hang up, she hastily said goodbye and hung up, irrespective of his reaction.
Shortly after this, Easton returned carrying two large bags. Seeing Lily holding his phone in a daze on the couch, he curiously furrowed his brows.
Without putting down the bags, he walked over to her in large strides, "Honey! What big matter are you pondering over?"
After approaching her, he placed the bags on the coffee table and sat down beside her, glancing at the phone she had in her hand.
When Easton walked in, Lily snapped back to reality. After he sat down, she handed him his phone, "Your friend called you just now."
After returning the phone, she started rummaging through the groceries he had just bought.
"Who was it?"
Easton asked while picking up his phone and checking his call log.
Seeing that the missed call was from Ryan Taylor, his heart skipped a beat, understanding why she was so lost in thought.
Lily seemed not to have heard Easton’s question, fully engrossed in searching through the bags for food.
"Oh, hawthorn berries!"
After rummaging for a while, Lily found the hawthorn berries in the midst of many fruits and vegetables, which suddenly piqued her appetite. She took out the small bag containing the hawthorn and headed to the kitchen.
Seeing her leave the living room with the hawthorn, Easton picked up the phone and redialed Ryan Taylor, trying to find out what his friend had said, and why his wife reacted the way she did.
"You’re back?"
After a few rings, Ryan Taylor answered the call.
Easton ignored his question and directly asked what was on his mind, "What did you say to my wife just now?"
